The two keyboards are more evenly matched than you make out! The final score of Yamaha 9 vs Casio 6 includes a point for the Yamaha being cheaper, and yet I have just checked online and found that in the UK at the present time the Casio is cheaper than the Yamaha. So if we take one point from the Yamaha and give it to the Casio, we get Yamaha 8 vs Casio 7, which is as close as it is possible to be for an odd number of points!
I got myself an EZ300 after seeing and earring this keyboard. Your playing is so Beautiful, quality… loved everything about it. Thank you for this video.
so if the goal is to learn to play the piano, then maybe the Casio is a better options because the keys are semi-weighted and are closer to a real piano. The Yamaha one is more like a keyboard... it is a bit too springy to me (some says it can make your fingers play the wrong way if you play the keyboard too much). Another thing I found for the Casio is that it tells you which finger to use if you wait a little while, and the Yamaha doesn't seem to have such a function. One more thing is that the LK-S450 uses the AiX Sound Source, which can give the sound of a German Stage Concert Piano, so this one beats the Yamaha if piano voice is what you are looking for as a piano learner. So if I can get only one, I may go with the Casio one, but it may be ok to get both, if you consider piano lessons can be US$60 an hour (I am not sure how much it costs?), so if you spend an extra $279 plus tax which is $300 to get the EZ-300 but can learn a few more songs from its lessons, then it may be worth it.
"I found for the Casio is that it tells you which finger to use if you wait a little while" - Hi, I haven't bought Casio lk-s450 yet, so I can't check. Please write how exactly does Casio indicate which finger to press the key with? Is something displayed on the screen keyboard or do I need a tablet and a special program for this?
These are beginner keyboards to me and some of the points you gave to the Yamaha EZ300 are for functionality that shouldn't matter to most beginners in my opinion. The Casio wins for beginners in my books.
Thanks Jeremy for the comprehensive review! Looking for a keboard for our family and I'm torn between these two. I do lean toward the Yamaha because of brand familiarity. I'm not really interested in all the different instruments and synth functions. My priorities are, piano sound quality, keylighting, weighted keys, learning functions/app support. Cost is a factor too of course, are there any other options out there?
He does say both can load additional songs. Yamaha has a video on how to load an additional midi file and shows it lights up the keys as well: ruclips.net/video/9XlbBf5WjV0/видео.html
Jeremy Are beginners learning quicker with lighted keyboards? I am 62 and have had other keyboards and Ipad music learning apps and never learned good enough. Please answer and share your experience with your students.
Great video review! I just purchased the EZ300 based on the info in your videos (used your link to Sweetwater, hope you get some help from it). I am a total musical newbie and your strong recommendation of the lighted keyboard convinced me to spend money on this feature. Thank you for your solid advice.
Regarding Casio, I have doubts between choosing LK-s450 and Cdp-s110. Is lesson mode with illuminated keys so useful? Would it be equivalent to using an iPad with any piano roll app? For a beginner, which one would be better? Lk-s450 for the illuminated keys or cdp-s110 for the full keyboard and better feel of weighted keys? Thank you
Hi, I have the 250. Disappointed as just got it today and only 4 keys light up at any one time. It says in the 450s manual that 10 light up at any time. Can someone check this for me please before I go through the returns procedure. Great video, thanks
Dear Jeremy, you are the most knowledgeable person. And I thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge. hope you find the time to Answer. I am aiming to learn Hindustani Raga (Indian classical music) with a Harmonium. As I don't have local access to teachers in this Genre. I would like to help myself by using the Key lighting system of a keyboard for learning porposes and then refine everything on the Indian Harmonium I already have. The Idea is: 1: Convert Raga solo instrumental pieces to midi. 2: Convert or use existing indian Tabla beats. 3. Import them to a key lighting Keyboard. And integrate them in the Lesson/ Teaching system of the keyboard. 4. Start learning. My question: Which keyboard would you suggest for a beginner with these ambitions? All the other bells and whistles of a keyboard important for traditional keyboarders are subrelevant for me. The capability to import and integrate Some (minimum 3 /maximum 10) indian beats and (minimum 3/ maximum 30) midi files of converted indian ragas in the keyboards learn/teaching system is all I will need. I have seen numourous Videos of yours but am not able to decide due to the analytical deminsions of the problem/ solution. Thank you for your Kind response.
Hello Jeremy. In your unbiased opinion how important is it to have weighted keys for someone who is learning only for leisure and not intend to have a piano? Is it helpful in any way to better learning?
If you never touch a piano, it's less important. The answer is subjective beyond that. I have weighted, graded keys on a stage piano. I have semi-weighted keys on a workstation keyboard. I have synth action mini keys on a synthesizer. Since I learned on an acoustic piano first, I am more expressive on a weighted, graded keyboard. I would suggest sticking to what works for you. Try various actions and decide what works for you personally. That's the real answer. No one size fits all. As long as you know that how you learn affects how play. Learn on a keyboard without weighting can affect you ability to adjust to weighted keys. Pick your adventure.
If using as an arranger that Casio full range and chord bass option is clutch. I used to choose Casio for the polyphony benefits depending on the keyboard but this is pretty evenly matched. Despite the Yamaha audio interface and the extra cost for Bluetooth I would probably still choose the Casio for the chordana app option with learning songs unless Yamaha has something comparable. I still love being able to play full chords and the Casio using the alternate bass line. I used to choose Yamaha over Casio in these budget lines but I still feel Casio has a slight edge for gigging in multiple settings.
Does anyone know how to find sheet music for the songs in Casio LK series? I believe the Casio versions are simplified, and key-changed for beginners, which is why sheet music that is normally found online does not match what the LK teaches. I am looking for sheet that matches the Casio simplified versions. The songs have stayed largely unchanged for decades right? But I can't see a song book online.
Hi Jeremy, do you can tell me please if I can connect the ez300 to an ipad so I can see the notes on the ipad which I have to press on the keyboard? I really wished you could do a video about how to play and learn to play piano with the ez300 and an ipad. Thanks so much!
@1:47 Those keys look SO tiny! They're not full size are they? Are there any lighted keyboards with full sized keys? Thanks for ALL the Awesome videos Jeremy!
Excellent video, Jeremy! Very well done. Though I am not in the market for a light-up keyboard, I still enjoyed it very much. I know these are basically the lighted key versions of the PSR-E373 and CT-S400, with differences you covered in other videos. Those are both great, in addition to getting the CT-S1, I may have to get both, just because the are both great, in their unique ways, like my Go:Keys and JD-Xi has their own special abilities. Decisions, decisions, but better yet, we have so many good choices.
Excelent comparison, Jeremy! Portability, key action, conectivity wireless, weight and Trinity Study, win Casio. The Yamaha win in articulations, usefull, organic sound, lessons included, and other rounds, like price, in your video. Very nice video, and interesting for who decides buy one of this lights beginners arranger keyboards. Greetings from 🗿Chile 🇨🇱
HELP! on the 300 .... I'm trying to find out if it has the "SMART CHORD," option so one can play play a whole chord if you press only one finger on a key on the left side. I need this option for our children's church band.
I wish you'd included something about their MIDI capability and song expansion. I would probably be interested in learning only at most a dozen of the built in songs. A casual or beginner being able to load other songs or play them via MIDI in is going to find that a valuable feature. I think both can do this and the keys light up, but I don't know for sure, and I don't know which MIDI channels light up the keys.
I have the Yamaha EZ300. It can light the keys with MIDI. It has two Function settings to determine which MIDI channel lights the keys. Each of the two Function can select a MIDI channel from 01 to 16. I had a Casio many years ago but forget the model, it also did light with MIDI. Gave it to a child learning to play. I like the Yamaha and kind of want to keep it, but it will soon go to another child.
@Jeremy: You missed that you can use the EZ300 with a Bluetooth MIDI Adapter, too!! And talking about connectivity: Did you mention the USB-AUDIO ability of the Yamaha?
The Casio LK series in the International stopped adding copyrighted POP songs after the LK-280. I'm surprised that the Yamaha EZ series is still doing it.
Sir want to learn piano but have lack of money and I am not able to find suitable course on RUclips can you just help please as RUclips have variety of videos and I don't know which video to watch and not to watch
I know I’m not Jeremy but I’m a beginner too and have no money to pay for lessons at the moment. I am working on the videos from ‘Pianote’ and am finding them very helpful. Good luck
Wish they made at least one model with very compact size, nothing but one realistic piano sound, realistic keys, and cheap, for those who only want to play thr piano.
Helpfull, or do they learn exactly the wrong thing? Continously looking at keys and hands does not help you much further in the long run.. lesson 1, look at the sheetmusic and not at your hands. If you really want to learn playing in a fun way, start with piano marvel, thats in my opinion the best place to start if you dont want to totally rely on sheets
But wouldn’t they eventually be comfortable enough in the long run that they don’t have to look down anymore? For example, when people are typing on laptops in the beginning they look down but overtime with practice it’s just muscle memory and do it naturally.
I don'r know if the Casio LK-S450 has the same speakers as the LK-S250, but the sound of the LK-S250 ais a joke. Cardboard sound with no bass or brightness. Like listening to m y old transistor radio in the 70's. Yamaha ez-300 sounds way better

Do either of them allow you to use the light function to learn to play Any song you may want to play, that you may find a good midi file of?
I'm also wondering this question...
@@funkybunch81 have you found the answer to the question yet?
That is why I watched this review, although still I don't know the answer

In 2024 in Europe, Casio is alot cheaper : 240 vs 320 euros
