Physics play a huge role when it comes to understanding how to swing with tons of speed and consistency.
At Pro Speed Baseball, we make these physics easy.
In today's lesson, we show you 1 simple technique that will help you take advantage of physics to gain bat speed the first time you do it!
It all has to do with the lead arm.
We're going to show you what happens when we use the lead arm incorrectly, why we tend to do this...
...and how to lengthen the lead arm for maximum leverage which leads to maximum bat speed!
I look forward to helping you improve your baseball in the future!
Thanks for watching and don't forget to Subscribe!!

First of all your instructional videos are some of the best on RUclips - so thank you for that. Question I thought of while watching this, does this mean standing a certain distance from the plate is crucial if you want to take your hands all the way to the ball without bending elbows?

On the straight arm drill, how would you stay inside the ball while keeping a straight arm? Thanks

How do you know if you do it too much? Because I was told not to stretch it too much.

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  7 лет назад +4

Great question! A good rule of thumb here would be to keep the arm as long as possible while still maintaining a slight bend at the elbow... then the arm will ideally straighten up just after contact.
This is on an ideal swing, if the pitch is lower or more outside, the arm could tend to get a straighter sooner due to reaching more for the ball.
Hope this helps out! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

so what good is maximum bat speed when you get jammed because you have a long swing? that bigger lever also creates longer to the ball.... you sound like the launch angle guys who only talk about lift while sacrificing contact. What point is launch angle when you don't hit the ball square?

  • @djuramalevic9919

Wow this is some great stuff.... I just think the hands to the ball is a bad cue... We can make it work but the confusions are too great.... What I think is key are the arm fascia lines and notice how some arm lines can switch connections at the shoulders... Also the hands have many connections with way too many functions that are really unknown to most... Another way of saying it's too general to talk hands as the hands have for points of actions and we have two hands holding the bat while it's possible that we backhand and forehand with the hands... I love your lever teachings and the big angle with more speed and lower angle with slower speed... Obviously the best way to have power is to have proper contact, so getting contact right is a must and your bat speed would be an afterthought... Question... Without getting to details as I think you will the bigger picture... As you expressed the lead arm stuff... I like the cue TURN FAST... Do you you use that cue...

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  7 лет назад +2

Hey Djura, thanks for the comment.
We purposely use the "hands to the ball" as a generality for the mere reason is that every athlete is different. Some hitters work well with things like "knob to ball" which is essentially the same thing. (Also pad of the hand to the ball etc...)
It is impossible to get every slight detail into every video. We do have videos explaining this more in detail, which is why we went with progressive hitting system on our website.
As far as using the "Turn fast" cue, this is not something I would recommend using. The majority of hitters turn too soon in their swing and get out of sync. By using the cue"Turning Fast" it would be the same as telling a hitter to "rotate" which is something every hitter will do anyways.
Very tough to explain over text, but I hope that made sense. Thanks again for the comment!

By the way ... Just saying lets get the physics and point to a chosen physics is not really right... You need the right physics to model what is going on... The problem is right is relative to what we know...Funny how that goes....

Great video it's amazing how the amatures here have no clue what you are talking about. This is why they cannot understand why do pros look like the are swinging down in the on deck circle, they are simply talking the knob to the ball. When they go 100% the barrel tries to catch up with the knob. That is how the barrel gets below the hands.

Funny thing, as I surf through numerous hitting videos, they all seem to contradict one another, or do they really? They all use the same basic premise of proper load to explode, however, the similarities breaks down when it comes to actual swing path of the bat. When they start talking about physics, that's when they lose me. The more mechanics you interject into someone's swing, the worse they will become. The more intelligent an instructor tries to sound, the more confused the hitter will be. No one seems to ever talk about recognizing a strike vs a ball and how the most important part of your swing is actually your vision. Your eyes control everything. Picking up a ball from the pitcher's release point can slow the pitch down. Players should practice this all the time, even when just having a catch.

No disrespect, but have never been a proponent of extending that lead arm (arm bar) simply to maintain bat speed. I've taught collegiate and MLB athletes, including my current MLB Players Union Executive Director son, and nearly all of my 4 and 5 hitters (roster position) could reach the long fences (350-400 ft) without such extension. Sorry.

    WHAT?
Please don’t teach taking your hands outwards to the ball. Why in God's name would you ever teach casting your hands?
Secondly, that is not what you do in your own swing! You, yourself, don’t swing that way. Your hands are not going towards the ball on the T, they are going forward to the pitcher in the proper manner.
Your hands are not moving toward the middle of the plate.. not even close. At 1:34 in your video you "swing the bat" in order to prove some lever principle that is not part of a baseball “swing.”
Anyone that has ever played or coached this game for long enough knows that a properly completed bat motion is not a "swing" like you did in this video at the 1:34 time position. You had no hips rotation and you swung that bat around your body like you were playing that old playground jumping game played with a jump rope.
Who bends their elbow during a swing? Show me a MLB player that bends his elbow during a swing and I will show a very specific instance he got caught with and extremely inside pitch and he is pulling his hands in order to not get hit.
The preface to your argument is absurd. At 2:50 you talk about being “taught wrong” and “staying inside the ball.” Show me a coach that is worth anything who says keep your hands close to your body in the way you are trying to deceive. At 3:21 you falsely talk about your hands staying away and coming into your body, but you are doing that in respect to your body that is not rotational, which has no relevance to the baseball swing!
At this point I have almost puked. Hands to the ball?? You are insane! Your lead arm is not lengthening when you swing and keep your hands inside the ball because your body is rotating.
It is obvious you have no idea what you are talking about, because your own swing, which is actually quite nice follows nothing of what you TALK about!
Proof, right in your own video!
Do a stop action at 10:15 in your video. Your properly done swing has your hands inside the plate; in fact they are probably over top of the white batter’s box line and nowhere near "outward" to the ball in effort to keep your "front lever." Your front arm is properly "straight" (slight bend) and your top hand elbow is properly connected to your rear hip and that is caused by your proper rotation of your hips and by you NOT CASTING as you are verbally teaching. You didn’t take your hands anywhere near the ball on that tee and you don’t do it on the video on the front page of your web site either.
Because you are properly keeping your top hand close to your body through your elbow staying connected at the hip, the rotation of your body through hip rotation allows your front side to stay lengthened properly to allow the whipping motion we seek as we extend our rear arm as we “punch” through and extend our top hand arm so that attempt to get full extension of both arms before we roll our hands as our bat approaches being pointed at the pitcher.
What you are saying and what you are doing are two different things. Your hands are "inside" the ball. Really inside the ball and you don’t take your hands to the ball at all, but properly take your hands to the pitcher by using the rotation of your hips, a stiff front side, a connected rear side and a chin from shoulder to shoulder swing.
Sorry... but people should watch what you do and not listen to what you are saying. Hell, go look at your website where you have a nice slow motion video on the front page. If you are taking your hands outward to the ball in that video I will eat my keyboard.

Hey Andrew, thanks for the comment!
I would highly recommend checking out our swing plane videos here on RUclips:
      ruclips.net/video/a_tJvSCvgRE/видео.html
      ruclips.net/video/Pg7J0PVNW4k/видео.html
      ruclips.net/video/T17fgs1MW2I/видео.html
These go over the physics of how the bat works in relationship to the bio-mechanics of our body.
In short the speed, momentum, and weight of bat counterbalance the hands into what you see in slow motion.
So what you're seeing is spot on, it's just not exactly happening as it might appear... if that makes sense at all.
And you're really going to think I'm crazy when I say that the further the hands get off the body (to an extent) the more bat lag a hitter can create, meaning less casting.
I know, I know, it sounds like casting, but if the bat is being swung with any amount of athleticism, this will create more lag and the hands staying "inside" can cause casting of the barrel. We have a video coming out on this soon!
Sounds like you have a great eye for the swing, and I truly appreciate your critique! Always makes me look into things with that much more detail!
If you have any questions on this, please feel free to let me know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

I do exactly what he is teaching in my slow pitch hitting. take the nob of the bat towards the ball, on a path towards the second baseman. I keep the barrel back as long as i can, creating lag. Even though it would seam as if I'm swinging towards the second baseman, I end up pulling the ball. I create unbelievable bat speed and hit the ball a mile. Im not a physics major, but i can tell you this works. I've been hitting like this before I've ever seen this video.
