Birmingham as any other City in the UK has experienced much change, some good some bad, just a natural progression through the different cycles, I dont know what year your talking about but you imagine the 80s onwards & Birmingham had massive employers like IMI in Witton, Leyland in Longbridge, Cadburys in Bournville, Horizon travel HQ on the Broad St, Lucas plants & factories throughout the City, Dunlop tyres in Erdington, LDV vans in Washwood Heath, Metro Cammel train makers in Washwood Heath, Ansells brewery in Aston HP sauce in Aston, the Birmingham mint in Hockley where Britain's money was made, GKN osram again across the city, Severn Trent water in Sheldon, there are countless other companies that 1 by 1 dwindled away, + the brain drain down to the smoke, they didn't even leave those of us with a sweet tooth as finally Cadburys went to an American company for something like 13 billion quid, oh & where was Cadburys mentioned during the games 🤔,they said production of chocolates would remain in Birmingham but more lies, you see when the bull came out it was Birmingham saying to the World its reinvented itself & does not support or is in any way a representative of the greedy bullish lying selfish regime that gradually siphoned of all that made it the City it was, thats why crime rocketed, if people are hungry or encouraged by a system that is greedy they will steal, of course there is no justification for crime but this means crime all over, there ain't no rule for 1 & 1 for another & if you visited Birmingham throughout the games you will have heard of very little crime whatsoever, the Police were as tourist enjoying the vibe of a City that reflects a direction the Country will head & things will get a whole lot better for all of us I assure you , we will never go back to that shackle & chains & greedy selfish ideology. I hope you understand & GOD bless you 💚
I'd love to know where you get your statistical information about Hull from. I've never heard so much tosh. The city has taken a slow road to recovery after its lifeblood industry was ripped away from it in the 1970s - but the one advantage of that is that the city centre no longer smells of fish! We have a highly regarded university and many graduates, from all over the country and beyond, choose to stay beyond their degrees. The city gets slandered through ignorance. We are not on the way to anywhere else; you're either coming to Hull or you're not; so those who have not been and have no reason to come, find it easier to slag the city off. I find it very odd that Hull and Birmingham are on this list whilst Manchester (which is a total armpit) is not.
I've never been to Hull but i've never wanted to leave a city more than Birmingham, it's so bleak and ugly. Whilst Manchester probably should've been on here, I don't really find it as bad. I remember going once to a concert in the Cricket Ground and it was so empty, like no cars and barely any people, felt like a scene in 28 Days Later. If you find it odd that Birmingham is on this list, then god may have peace upon your soul.
Hull is a city with potential, if the city centre has more put into it in terms of repairing old buildings (which is currently underway), attracting businesses and providing more job opportunities the City would grow rapidly. East Park is beautiful as is the Humber bridge country Park. The New theatre is fantastic, and the town hall is beautiful. I moved to the area a year ago, and it reminds me of what Newcastle was like in the early 2000s and look how much that has developed and changed.
Not entirely. Britain's cities were blitzed by the faceless planners of the 60s who had no love for historic bits of architecture, to make way for ring roads.
@Vaughanb Brean not a Brummie but a fan of Brum -most like an American city in the UK; vibrant, threatre, arts, museums ,universities, parks and more miles of canal than Venice .It's critics usually are people who have never visited it .And plenty if nice countryside around it and good access to national motorway and rail.network .-sorry to disappoint its critics but I love visiting the place .
Pls I plan on replicating to Birmingham from Bournemouth , I need advice if it is a good move ? As bounemouth is so expensive now and has little to nothing to do regarding night life and areas of attraction
how old are you? any big city would be better for a young person! Bournemouth is where people retire to if your young you need somewhere with good nightlife - London, Birmingham, Liverpool or Leeds
I moved the other way when I was 46 ( 12 years ago ) as much as I love my hometown I now prefer Bournemouth, I just love the chilled vibe and living by the beach and have no problem finding things to do. But enjoy Brum if night life is what you're after you won't find anywhere better.

I had a feeling that Bradford would be number 1. Hull doesn't deserve the bad press it gets - at least, not all of it. I'm surprised Wakefield isn't included, as I've never heard good reports about it; nor Milton Keynes; and from personal experience I have to say Carlisle is also pretty unexciting.

Birmingham, (once a great city), like the majority of large British cities was systematically trashed from the 1960’s on and has never fully recovered. Most U.K. cities are full of cheap, ugly, built to the lowest budget, trashy modern buildings that make them so depressing. By far the nicest ate the smaller cities e.g. Oxford, Cambridge, Bath, Winchester etc. that have managed to remain more human without trashing their historic centres.
Sorry one can tell be his accent the commentary is done by a southerner hence his bias the true most hated cities in Britain by those not living there 5.... Stoke on Trent...it not really one city its 7 towns put together hence its not like a real city. 4 .... Brighton even the beach is large stones full of trendy hippies and drunk Londoners 3 .... Milton Keynes never go without good GPS, every road looks the same. Take a sick bag you'll get dizzy going round the roundabouts. It most famous feature = concrete cows.... enough said. 2 Manchester.... just try driving into Manchester or even going by train you'll hate the journey. The only city center that has large plot of land that have been temporary car parking for 40 years. 1 London overcrowded expensive dirty outside the tourist areas.
I don't agree with the remark about Birmingham. I lived in the heart of the city centre for over a year and I love it. Great transportation network, multi cultural diversity, reasonable cost of living, etc. I look forward to going back there.
i left Bradford in 71 for work & no other reason, the nightlife then was fantastic, the centre vibrant & the people friendly but due to the abject failure of national & local government the place has become a shithole

Wolverhampton and Coventry worse Birmingham and should be blown of the map . At least Brum has spaghetti junction so assuming no traffic jams or road works at you can get out of there quick.
Liverpool as some amazing parks and the waterfront is great . It does have some run down parts like every mayor intercity. I live in Newcastle and that's the same 😁
Your video snippets of Birmingham are all at least seven years out of date. Crime in Brum is a lot lower than in all of the other U.K. large cities. I would also say that it has far fewer homeless people and aggressive beggars than either Liverpool or Manchester.
I'm from Liverpool and lived in Birmingham for over 20 years and commuted to work in Coventry every day. Coventry is a badly designed modern City with some but, little heritage due to WWII bombing and loses out to Birmingham it's close neighbour. Liverpool is infact one of the safest Cities in Europe from statistics showing safe and unsafe cities. It is below Manchester which is one of the highest crime rates. Also below London and Birmingham. If I'm not mistaken it is the 17th lowest crime rate in the UK...that's below most if not all Metripolitan Citues and other Cities in the UK. Birmingham is a vibrant City as is Liverpool. The days when Birmingham was strangled by the Bournville /Cadbury family preventing bars, pubs or clubs to expand are well and truly over. It has more miles of Cannals than Venice (but maybe not as beautiful) there are lots of greenery with many commons rather than Parks but it has parks too. If you are looking for heritage then Birmingham has less to offer but as a modern city it has plenty. Bradford I found to be depressing and dull. Decided not to go to the University there because of the City. Hull has plenty of heritage but it's bad reputation of crime, exenaphonia, homophobia and racisum is something to keep away from.
@@gazriley624 You seem to have misinterpreted my commen I moved to Birmingham 20 years ago but I checked the statistics on Liverpool crime about 3 or 4 years ago (so they are slightly out of date but not by 20 years since I moved to Birmingham). So there not as out of date as implied by your comment of 20 years. Those would have been taken into consideration when I checked the stats. Again I emphasis Liverpool has one of the lowest crime and serious crime rates in the UK.
Bradford needs investment and is a result of many decades of poor investment into the City, although this started to change after the 2001 riots and with the help of a Labour Government in charge, after the Conservatives came back to power in 2010 everything went downhill yet again. I will give you an example, in 2013, I would have been 11, there were three - four youth clubs on my estate of Buttershaw, back then crime committed by youths were declining. By 2016 there was only one youth club remaining and by the time that I am writing this in 2022 there is no longer a single youth club in the estate. I have witnessed the increased drug usage among youths and because the young population is bored, they are commiting crime and getting involved in organised crime like never before. The problem here isn't the people or the local government that keeps getting funding cut, it's the investment from the Government to services across the City, Bradford has the youngest City in the UK yet the investment by the Government into the City keeps getting cut. Now with the pressures of the Cost of Living Crisis things are getting worse. Instead of making a video about the most Hated Cities in the UK and placing an image of Bradford as the thumbnail, maybe you need to recognise the wrongs that are going on in Bradford at a Governmental level. Educate yourselves, you don't even need to go to Bradford to look at the problems which could be alleviated with the proper funding. Why don't you see for yourselves in the latest documentary by the BBC about the services within Bradford here... www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00184w4/bradford-on-duty-series-1-1-levelling-up a documentary that looks at the lives of those who are trying the fix the problems with Bradford with an ever decreasing budget. By saying Bradford is the most hated City in the UK, is saying that you just take things at face value and do not look at the underlying issues that are causing this in the seventh most populous and the youngest City in the UK.
Bradford cannot be fixed. Youngest city because of the high birth rate among the asian population and large influx of recent immigrants from everywhere in the world. Just let then get on with it and allow Ilkley and the other towns in the Bradford metropolitan area to form a new district.
@@davidreed9671 I live in Keighley and wholeheartedly agree. I agree with all these places being on your list except Bradford - a few people smoking weed doesn't make a place unsafe - that is just ignorant. But why is the list so short? We have so many diabolical messed up cities. Birmingham and Hull would be near the top of mine for their accents alone. Leeds has shocking back-to-back ghettoes, Middlesborough Portsmouth Northampton Luton and Sunderland are just dreary, Sheffield is bleak and rude, Manchester has the worst weather, Plymouth is like the Village of the Damned.
Fully agree with this!
Watch mr.bean movie, the city seems out side europe like in Uzbekistan .
Birmingham? I don’t think it Is
Not entirely. Britain's cities were blitzed by the faceless planners of the 60s who had no love for historic bits of architecture, to make way for ring roads.
Allah loves Birmingham.

Most English cities look like islamabad
I still don't think any of these could even come close to as nasty as Detroit in the U.S.

What about Oldham, Bolton and Rochdale?
they are towns not cities
I love Birmingham……its great…
I have worked all over the country for the last 22 years , Bradford is the biggest Dump I have ever worked in and TBh I think a lot of people know WHY ??? 😡
I visit Bradford regularly, the comment about drugs and the smell of weed in the centre is spot on. The city centre is an absolute tip and l see they are going to make improvements by demolishing a large part of it again!
if putin decides to send a few rockets over im hoping bradford is on the receiving end of at least one 🤣
Bradford the pits
They talk funny in Birmingham like they're stoned
Try a look at sheffield
Sheffield’s great - shouldn’t be near this list.
agreed it's a dump and insignificant doesn't even deserve a mention in a good or bad light nobody cares about sheffield either way
Or Liverpool for that matter
Stoke isn't that bad, it's not brilliant. Completely agree about the local station though 😂 it's truly terrible. However, the way Alsager has been pronounced is completely wrong, it's All-sage-er or locally Ul-sage-er

I love it, it's my home and it's my shithole.. We had a good history but that's all it is, history.
I only flicked on this because as a Brummie I wondered which spot we'd get. I didn't doubt for a moment that we'd be in there, we always are. Knocking Brum is just taking an ill informed cheap shot.
Its a big city, no better and no worse than any other big city.
It's actually a shithole with added Islam and a bankrupt woke council
Yes. Agree. I am from Stoke. Can't say that it's terrible, but I don't like it
Bradford is definitely the worst city I've seen and I agree with the list but I think Coventry is worse than Birmingham and I lived in both of these cities. Also lived in Leicester which is pretty awful too

I had only been there a week or so and decided when my wife came we would stay somewhere a bit more happening.
Stayed in Birmingham, my god it looked so uninviting when we drove thru the city centre to check it out.
It looked like a wanna be gangsta street at every turn.
We drove straight back out again and went for a nice quiet meal out of town.
And as for Bradford, that’s the only place I’ve gone out at 10pm after drinks in saltaire - within 15 mins the whole group of us decided to jump in a taxi straight to Leeds as it was so backward and chaotic.
I am beginning to think that Learning Canteen is a front for the BNP. Most of the commentary, is focused on how these cities are affected by drugs, homelessness, fast food and other divisive matters
@Matt Kent
There's also no smoke without fire and there places mentioned are dire. Coventry and Wolverhampton should be on this list let's be clear about that, and also Leicester which has more short changing stinky _______ than rats.
Hmm
So drugs and homelessness is diverse now not crimes amazing
How dare you say this crap about the amazing Birmingham. I lived there for ten years and I had a wonderful time. I lived in south Birmingham in the wonderful Moseley. Packed with musicians, artists and great shopping.
He's right with the money, minimum wage everywhere 😁
I grew up in Bradford and went to university in Hull. I wouldn't say I hated either city, though I must admit my favourite big city is Leeds.
I had a feeling that Bradford would be number 1. Hull doesn't deserve the bad press it gets - at least, not all of it. I'm surprised Wakefield isn't included, as I've never heard good reports about it; nor Milton Keynes; and from personal experience I have to say Carlisle is also pretty unexciting.
but the list is about Hated cities not boring cities Milton Keynes and Carlisle are pretty insignificant really and not worth a mention in any list

I live in stoke on trent, the place where I live is extremely pleasant, a wonderful canal, lots of sprauling green areas, lots of fields. But its extremely cut off, the wedgewood factory train station though small was so damned important for our area but no longer is in use. The bus service is awful and ends at 5pm and only goes to 3 useful places. Then you step foot in stoke which has trains and busses but the exact opposite of beauty, its a shithole and it feels like you need to shower after going out into stoke for a while. So many stores shuttered, buildings crumbling....its...awful.
MTV needs to pimp my stoke
My only problem with Birmingham is the WW2 Bombsite Heritage Area slap next to Digbeth coach station, a wasteland of roofless old factories whose demolition is long overdue.
Digbeth Bus Station in the 70's was my acme for awfulness.

Any city is what you make of it.
I quite like Hull
Sorry one can tell be his accent the commentary is done by a southerner hence his bias the true most hated cities in Britain by those not living there
5.... Stoke on Trent...it not really one city its 7 towns put together hence its not like a real city.
4 .... Brighton even the beach is large stones full of trendy hippies and drunk Londoners

Your video snippets of Birmingham are all at least seven years out of date. Crime in Brum is a lot lower than in all of the other U.K. large cities. I would also say that it has far fewer homeless people and aggressive beggars than either Liverpool or Manchester.
Wrong. Less crime rate and less homeless in Liverpool.
Hull has plenty of heritage but it's bad reputation of crime, exenaphonia, homophobia and racisum is something to keep away from.
the crime rate has gone down in Liverpool over the last 20 years
@@gazriley624 You seem to have misinterpreted my commen I moved to Birmingham 20 years ago but I checked the statistics on Liverpool crime about 3 or 4 years ago (so they are slightly out of date but not by 20 years since I moved to Birmingham). So there not as out of date as implied by your comment of 20 years. Those would have been taken into consideration when I checked the stats. Again I emphasis Liverpool has one of the lowest crime and serious crime rates in the UK.
@@alandillon968 Agreed
The ufck was that racist intro about 3rd world countries and showing an African village?
