The exact genre is Thall, which was coined by Vildhjarta over 10 years ago. It's a derivative of djent and deathcore featuring sludgy low tuned guitars and doomy ambience. HLB are influenced mainly by Meshuggah and Vildhjarta and they happen to share guitarist Buster Odeholm with the latter band. He's one of the most innovative guitarists in the scene.
Within this specific album and Välde, they took a path leaning more toward death metal than deathcore compared to Detestor and Abyssal for exemple. It still has some deathcore in it but it's definitely closer to death metal Catastrophize is probably the best proof of that too.
Humanity's Last Breath perform i a genre dubbed as "Thall". It's a joke name to describe the two bands Humanity's Last Breath and Vildhjarta. Simplest way to describe the genre is that it is when you try to make Djent as brutal as possible with an empthasis on ambience, dissonance and alot of chromatic bending. It's not really deathcore. Although it sounds as 'brutal' or heavy as deathcore, the riffing borrows very little from Hardcore and Death Metal. The riffing and writing is much more 'prog' oriented. That being said, you should listen to Vildhjarta. They invented this genre. Humanity's Last Breath is a solo project by a person who's also the drummer in Vildhjarta. It's kinda interessting that Thall is starting to influence modern metalcore bands like Invent Animate et.c.
HLB's gotta be one of my fav bands alongside To The Grave and ten56. All three bands have loads of bangers, but HLB are the only of the three bands that sound like a genuine apocalypse.
