For me, the saddest thing about Russiagate is seeing how many artists (musicians, writers, actors) I respect bought into it. I'd thought they had some real insight into the human condition, but it turns out their understanding of politics goes no further than "whatever I just saw on MSNBC must be the truth."

Imho I think that the opposing voices just weren't there - like Aaron says: The Intercept, Democracy Now, et al joined in on the cacophony. Had they pushed another narrative it would've been easier to "resist" (or so I think)

The American public are probably the most propagandized population on Earth. We are conditioned from birth to be low information consumers who lack critical thinking skills. It's a systematic problem that especially impacts the educational system, including (and especially) higher education. Pavlovian conditioning using grades, degrees, and other professional rewards and accolades, is how we end up with impressively stupid thought leaders.
I had a Poli-Sci professor at Purdue University West Lafayette Indiana in 1995 teach my class all about the "Hegemonic Media" and its dangers. Thank you so much Prof. Weinstein. You were a man ahead of your time!
Mine was a Journalism 101 Prof, who warned many re: the MSM as the 4th Estate (in the 80's). Coming from a Dem., this was refreshing. Today, it would be astounding.
i studied anthropology and social sciences with a teacher saying that all dictatorships so far from latin america to africa to asia always started with the media beeing censored from covering tge opposition..And it was those countries that pushed back and kept their free media were tge countries that didnt go into dictatorship and the ones tgat had a complying placating media were the countries that went down. Resulting in a whole generation full of misery. Untill tge next new generation stood up and put all the independent press rules back in place. There is no democracy without free independent press. Every journalist knows this every social scientist knows this. It is unforgivable what the mainstream does right now.

It's hard to hear excuses for Chris Hayes. It would be so impactful if he or all other journalists spoke the truth, like a strike. Most people dont believe a story is real unless the mainstream media talks about it. As far as I'm concerned, pushing narratives as fact with no real evidence or examination is the exact opposite of integrity.

Great interview. I find it fascinating how enamoured Matt is that Aaron had the foresight to follow/unwind Russiagate from the beginning. Plenty of Conservatives (Limbaugh, Hannity, Bongino, etc.) had this peeled back from the beginning. FOX news was right on the money and should be acknowledged. Deal with it.

So much respect for these three. Honest question here - how can anyone who understands what has taken place over the last three years trust the DNC over Trump at this point? I don't like the corner I've been forced into but I know what the DNC is willing to do and what Trump actually has done and I just can't vote for anybody associated with the DNC. Not even necessarily voting for Trump but I'm starting to believe more may be at stake than my ideal integrity in the voting booth. Have written in votes many times but this one honestly feels like it has serious implications. Is anybody else in my shoes?

Yes, I am. Some people think if they vote for trump it will somehow punish the DNC but the DNC doesn't care if everyone votes for trump because they'll still get what they want. I had planned on voting for Bernie but sadly he's too far ahead of his time. Aaron is a good journalist, he’d be even better if he’d avoid pointing out he’s not a Trump supporter so much. “I don’t like Trump, Trump is scary” does nothing for his arguments, it actually makes it harder to connect with people leaning the other way.
I think the problem is that anyone who points out inconvenient facts for the left is branded so easily as being 'pro Trump'.

Very satisfying to see Rolling Stone going in this direction. I expected that they had gone woke but this is a good sign of the kind of ongoing rebellion the mag was born into.
Why did Rolling Stone stop producing this show? From what I’ve watched so far, it seems like Useful Idiots was one of those rare cases of honest journalism grounded in systemic issues and the reality of regular peoples’ lives… you know, instead of rinsing and repeating only what the two major political parties want audiences to hear.

Well here's the thing. Most of us are not journalists whose work it is to follow all of this - it is pretty damn hard to keep up and know what is correct information. We work all day and have family etc. etc. I guess I have been fooled but I have up on MSNBC quite a while ago. Actually keeping up with all this is difficult. I will be watching this youTube station every day now - so keep it coming.
I just hope my family and friends will watch this. They all think I’m nuts. Facebook friends have called me a Russian puppet for the last few years. Also, please learn about the tax cuts. I'm NO Trump fan, but the tax cuts reduces taxes at the highest level by around 2.5%. Wow ... I just realized that Aaron is the son of Gabor Maté. I hang with a roving soup kitchen in Tokyo, and am a big fan of Gabor Maté's work with addiction and treating the homeless in Vancouver. A few months ago, I read a Kindle version of 'In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts'. Recommended.
