Fantastic that you included Dutch/Belgian/German sources! Several Dutch publications materialized in the 1800s. At the time there was outrage about the mainstream (British) version but the Prince of Orange decided to keep his distance since he did not want to jeopardize his good relationship with the Duke of Wellington. If you really want to shake up things use this German publication: "Englands große Waterloo-Lüge zu den Jahrhunderttagen von 1815"; it was very well received in the Low Countries in 1915.
Of course the British version narrative of Waterloo was full of nationalist lies. But you do realize that the German publication was from 1915 ("don't mention the war " ) 😉 Not that I want to dispute the content, but war time publications have to be read with scrutiny ..

These "experts" also accuse developers "disturbing the field of honour" so "evidence of mass graves" will be lost forever. Very well done. I think the credit given the Dutch-Belgian commanders totally deserved. The troops must also be commended for following orders and putting up a fight. It must be remembered the Kingdom of Netherlands was only recently formed out of two separate entities and many of the Dutch-Belgian Troops had served under Napoleon previously. I have reservations about the effectiveness/stubborness of defense portrayed. They reported suffering about 800 casualties (roughly 10%). I didn't note the Dutch-Belgian cavalry charge mentioned.
Ah well, history repeats. The Dutch prepared the "grounds" for the English at the battle against the Armada, Trafalgar, Algiers, Waterloo. Yes, the Brithsh (English) finished all of them off with superior numbers. But without the Dutch preparatory battles, I don't know if the English would have won. But, history is written by the victors (the British). So yeah.... The Dutch tend to be forgotten, or even completely wrongfully accused of cowardice at Quatre Bras. Great work, good to see that other sources is included to show the actual contribution of the Dutch, Belgians and Germans which is also ignored. As a Brit, I can only apologise to our Dutch, Belgian and German allies. Part of the problem was that the original British chroniclers of the battle had to rely on financial support from various British brigades and commanders to fund completion of their publications, and these payments generally required that the specific brigade was augmented and praised, and it was easier to scapegoat foreign units for any failures than risk censure by the British Army or government. Nowadays we do have access in UK to some much better researched books on these battles, which also use sources from Netherlands, Belgium and the former German states, and present a fairer assessment.

@@lionsbergcinematic3215 Oh yes, Francis was indeed the emperor, but he stopped being Francis II when he dissolved the Holy Roman Empire. By creating the Austrian Empire (which did not exist prior to 1804, he became Francis I. Since the Austrian Empire had no other Francises before him, he was henceforth the first of his name. He was also the last Francis of the Austrian Empire. There never was a Francis II of the Austrian Empire. Same... but different. Similarly, James VI of Scotland became James I when he became king of England. More weirdly, Charles I of Austria became Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire. He then again became Charles I (of Spain). And Charles I of Austria (who was not the same person as Charles I of Austria) was simultaneously Charles III of Bohemia and Charles IV of Hungary. Historians make sure to keep track of such details, so as not to conflate political entities with each other. The Holy Roman Empire simply was not the Austrian Empire. Their territories were vastly different, even though they also overlapped; their method of succession was fundamentally different; they embodied different concepts of how an empire is defined.
My only nitpick is the pronunciation of half of those town names and the names of generals is a bit off. I’m guessing narration doesn’t do French well?
Just curious, was it human or AI narration. I counted a few different pronunciations of "Charleroi". Some of the French pronunciations could use improvement.
@lionsbergcinematic3215 It's great stuff, keep up the good work. Maybe talk to the guys at Kings & Generals, they've really nailed down the difficult narration. Not sure if it's human, but it's spot on.
The Dutch Prince set the tone for the story of cowardice. Do the Belgians, Prussian and Dutch remember Waterloo like the British do? Arguably the most important battle in European history…..
Probably not, because when the Battle of waterloo took place 200,000 austrians have reached the rhine ,another 250,000 russians were on approach in northern germany. Even after a victory, shortly after Napoleon would have faced overwhelming forces. The 100days campaign was doomed to fail from the beginning.
Wellingtons Dutch Allies 1815 (book) Most of our sources: sites/books that we have read , said that the Dutch were pushed back. They did remain on the battlefield during the entire battle, but were pushed back by the French who outnumbered them by a lot. You can see this by the fact that both farms (The most important one being Gemounicourt) were taken by the French, and only after the British and Brunswickers arrived, did the coalition army have enough men to force the French army back and retake the farm. In spite of being pushed back, The Dutch and the Belgians held the ground. They bent but did not break and that has made all the difference!
Nice presentation….. I don’t see what the problem is with “ bad pronunciation of the towns or names” all you had to do was READ them yourself… the names were on the maps and the peoples name were underneath their pictures… why don’t you guys help ?
We know the English glorified made popularity about the French retreat at Waterloo written by their paid chronologically, though the massive war graves are still then nor to day found for any evidence. To be honest only 9 soldiers been found so far by their field hospital including one horse. I like more the Russian an Austria verification who even never mentioned in the battle or even the Prussians who routed them from there all the way to Paris and occupied the city for a decade. And now what we looking at is that of course the whole English spoken copying it from a single perspective, meaning a lie is the truth when is it’s repeatingly spoken I guess
@@lionsbergcinematic3215 Yes, you will, of that, I don't think that there is any doubt. You have a desire to provide high quality content, a desire that will serve you well. I wish you well in your endeavours.
It was hardly an epic defence, it was more a buggers muddle with both sides screwing up big time. I don’t take away anything from Wellingtons abilities but between June 16-18 Jun, he was lucky, skill had very little to do with it, he didn’t win so much as Napoleon lost.

Many accounts blame the Prince of Orange for the loss of the skirmishers; as he was two days later at Waterloo when he ordered Christian Ompteda’s 5th line battalion to retake La Haye Saint against cavalry and was decimated in obeying the order. I believe Wellington viewed the Prince as brave but very inexperienced.
Very true my friend, But, a lot of Belgians did fight in the French army before 1815, when Belgium was still part of France, but after it became a part of The Netherlands, a lot of Belgians also joined the Dutch army!
@@lionsbergcinematic3215 After the abdication of Napoleon in 1814, the integration of Belgium into the Netherlands, many Belgians who were in the great army found themselves unemployed, without income. When Napoleon returned to power in 1815, many French-speaking Belgians joined the French army because they were loyal to the emperor. During the Battle of Waterloo, there were as many Belgians, if not more, on the French side as the Dutch. The Belgians massacred each other during this battle. When the French army retreated, the French speakers cared for and massively helped the French (they hated the Dutch). 15 years later, the French speakers started the revolution against the Dutch.
@@arnaudgeline6263 okay that is something really new I learnt today, I will research a little more and try to include this fact in my next video on Waterloo!!
@@lionsbergcinematic3215 Above all, it sheds interesting light on Belgian participation in the battle based on a detailed exploration of the archives: it is not well known, but there were some 8,000 (future) Belgians on the battlefield, who were divided equally between the two camps! With terrible consequences: General Jean-Baptiste Van Merlen, fighting in the Dutch ranks, was confronted by his brother Philippe-Pierre who remained in the Napoleonic troops… Other soldiers who liked each other very much met face to face, greeting each other before shooting each other. This kind of situation was repeated all the more since at the time, it was not uncommon to change sides by changing regimes. As instability was the order of the day, this engendered various loyalties that had nothing to do with betrayal. We will cite for the record the case of General Jean-Baptiste Dumonceau who remained loyal to Bonaparte until the end before loyally placing himself in the service of King William. There is no doubt that this was the real Belgian drama of the Battle of Waterloo but we cannot avoid its consequences both on what was to become independent Belgium and on contemporary Europe.
A superb graphic representation of his essential battle that is usually overshadowed by the Battle of Waterloo. Alas, the butchering of ALL non-English names of generals, units and places makes the spoken commentary impossible to understand! It cannot be that difficult to ask a native French/Dutch/German speaker amongst your subscribers to give you the correct pronunciation of these words.
Thank You so much, sir! I lack in a budget to get a voice actor! Also, as I do not hail from Europe and do not speak proper English, I only have the information but not the pronunciations, sadly! Efforts are being made to improve the narration, but i really appreciate your suggestion and i will try my best!
Whilst it is nice to see a more balanced account attempted. Bashing us about the lug'oles with that awful bombastic backing makes this impossible to sit through.
The narrator is ok. The animations not crucial to understand what the video is about. The maps, positions of the units and movements to develop the battle and fight it are good and most importantly correct. So what is your problem about the quality? The video fulfills what it promises: To inform about the Battle of Quatre Bras.
Wellington was only placed as commander of the Anglo/Dutch forces because of a political move, The British army that was in The Netherlands in 1815 were mostly fresh troops with no battle experience, While the Dutch troops fought Before, either in the French army or in the Dutch army of 1814 fighting AGAINST the French The Dutch and Belgians were not trained by the british while a lot of the Dutch/Belgian officers had more experience than the British, Although we used British weapons and used British Formations, we were not trained by the British
@@britishpatriot7386 Very true @guiliobroekhuizen2914, the sole purpose of this video is to counter the so called British Supremacy on most European history! 2:00 I know it's complicated, but... The emperor of Austria was Francis I, not Francis II.
@@Timrath could you please explain because all my sources said that Francis II was the emperor from 1804 to 1835?

Nice video. But... I'm not French, but the mishandling of French names in this video is horrible. :o
The AI narration butchered a lot of french Dutch and Belgium names of people and towns
I have read a ton of shit on this battle and never have I heard that the dutch failed to hold the line. Can you put modern sources in your comments?
Wellingtons Dutch Allies 1815 (book)
Most of our sources: sites/books that we have read , said that the Dutch were pushed back.

They saved Wellington from disaster this is now finally known to the world.

The pronunciation of towns is dreadful.

the majority of Belgians were in the French army.
Very true my friend,
But, a lot of Belgians did fight in the French army before 1815, when Belgium was still part of France, but after it became a part of The Netherlands, a lot of Belgians also joined the Dutch army!
@@lionsbergcinematic3215focus on wallons or Flemish to make that distinction..
A superb graphic representation of his essential battle that is usually overshadowed by the Battle of Waterloo. The narrator is ok. The animations not crucial to understand what the video is about. The maps, positions of the units and movements to develop the battle and fight it are good and most importantly correct. So what is your problem about the quality? The video fulfills what it promises: To inform about the Battle of Quatre Bras.
Trained and armed by Britian
Wellington was only placed as commander of the Anglo/Dutch forces because of a political move, The British army that was in The Netherlands in 1815 were mostly fresh troops with no battle experience, While the Dutch troops fought Before, either in the French army or in the Dutch army of 1814 fighting AGAINST the French
The Dutch and Belgians were not trained by the british while a lot of the Dutch/Belgian officers had more experience than the British, Although we used British weapons and used British Formations, we were not trained by the British
@@britishpatriot7386 Very true @guiliobroekhuizen2914, the sole purpose of this video is to counter the so called British Supremacy on most European history! No matter how great the British Empire was, it should not strip off the credits that other smaller nations deserve! The contribution of the Dutch, Belgians, Brunswick troops is of paramount importance as the British in holding off the French advance at Quatre Bras!
