First of all, Teemu Selanne The Finnish Flash is my absolute favourite thank you guys for having him on! Absolute legend and such a fun person. Great to hear of Paul Kariya's equipment quirks.
Second, with regards to Adam Johnson, the player who killed him, Matt Petgrave, has a history of unsafe plays. He's stuck his leg out before when beaten on angles and that's an incredibly reckless gutless play. If you miss your check or your coverage just let it be. Allowing a scoring chance is not a matter of life and death. Sticking your leg out is a dirty play that in better case scenarios can end careers, in the worst case can kill someone as happened here. Matt Petgrave cannot be allowed to play hockey again and there's a case for manslaughter especially if that's the direction Adam Johnson's family feels is just.
This should never be allowed to happen and the importance of safety when it comes to skates coming up can't be impressed enough because these are the types of things that make parents not want their kids to be involved with hockey.

I'm not so sure the kick was totally intentional, at least not as certain as many people seem to be. I've played hockey most of my life, however not professionally so I can't speak for the speed of the game necessarily albeit faster than any of the levels I've ever played at. I've been to many games in the EIHL and can say that the ice in the UK is no where near as good as the ice in North America and many are used recreationally often.
With that in mind, it does seem to me that Petgrave's left skate catches a rut as there's a little snow spray while he tries to shift his balance to react to Johnson's cut toward the center of the ice. To me it looks like he loses his balance due to that which in turn flings his skate out which causes him to fall forward, then the following contact with the other forward causes the bit of spin further raising his skate.
I can see the interpretation that he may have tried to get a leg on Johnson in some awful and incredibly reckless attempt to slow Johnson, but I do think that there is a chance of this being an entirely freak accident as well.

Thank you, Mr. Jeremy Roenick! I absolutely agree with you on this incident. Mr. Tim Peel, there are 2 distinct kicking motions. Your rationale really surprises me. This was not a freak accident, and it's insulting to Adam Johnson's family for it to be portrayed as such. Absolutely should be charged and banned from playing hockey again.

I think it’s a horrible accident and the kid who made contact should be supported. Horrible situation. I just play beer league, so I see wild motions all the time.
