Throughout the last 10 plus years I must have heard at least 200 songs by Angelina. Through all that, I never tire from hearing her voice. Perhaps it's because she has this 'vocal chameleon' ability to bring forth so many different genres of music with a vocal gymnastic ability that constantly brings a fresh sounding vocal release. All I know is the fact that to me she mesmerizes my brain with pleasure constantly.
Angelina is a musical genius. She said she just wanted to see what she could do with this song. So the 12 yo prodigy sat down at her keyboard in her "Music Corner" at her house. She started to play & sing making it up on the fly, which she often does. This was the result, thanks to Grandma Mery who is always there to record for history. Otherwise these "1-shot experiments" would be lost forever. As you said her power is in her restraint. If she had started belting, which we all know she can do, it would ruin the melancholic mood she has created. This is also a Masterclass in the emotional use of "negative space" where she uses silence for emotional effect. I've never seen anything like her before.

Bear in mind that he created this masterpiece in just a few hours. She herself says she sat at the piano after dinner without being clear on what to do, then she heard this song, she liked it and decided to try it... the rest is history.

Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California is Angelina's A&R person, and he has been working with AJ since she signed with the largest record company in the world at the age of 14, three years ago. Rob was the MC of AJ Christmas Show that aired Dec 23, of 21. AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 21 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years, and toured with Barbara Streisand, accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. The main pianist, a five-time nominated for Grammys, Shelly Berg, stated in all his years working with the greatest vocalist, he had never encountered a talent like AJ. Did I forget to mention Jimmy Z, the famous Sax Player who worked with Rod Steward, Etta James, the Eurythmics, and Doctor Dre, was part of the band for the show? Jimmy stated that AJ was the best he has ever played for. Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California played the guitar, and was the MC of the show.
