Great review but Hobie will never offer anything at a "moderate price". Anything with the name Hobie comes at a stiff premium. I ordered a map pocket and was amazed to find a Hobie product for what I considered a decent price. Then I noticed you cant buy it anywhere without paying $5 shipping. ??? This thing would almost fit in a letter envelope and weighs at the most a few ounces. BlackPack is too overpriced for what it is. Is it better than a milk crate? Of course. Is it $100 better than a milk crate? Never. And why black? This thing is cooking everything inside it when in the hot sun. I know they offer a white one, but the marketing is towards the black. Makes no sense.
I have a love hate relationship with it. I might mount a gear track on top of it, if that works out it may be worth it for me.
I agree. I just added the Square hatch on my outback so I may get rid of the BlackPack and get a crate or the H crate.
