LOVIN’ ON MY MEEGS

My whole life, I have taken side trips as mini sabbaticals to do some songwriting. I’ve visited Paris, London, Taos, New York, Guatemala, Jamaica, Montana, New York, Tennessee, many places throughout California, Flagstaff. hIt’s something I’ve always loved to do and have written all of my best songs in places away from my home. I’ve also written plenty of songs at the house, but I like to be in another place and experience a visual immersion when I write. (BTW, I’m too old to go anywhere now, lol).
When I lived on the island of Maui, it was a tough one because immersion meant getting on a looong flight. So I wrote mostly at home when I was there. But once I headed to Hāna on the windward side of the island to stay at Waiʻānapanapa campground at the legendary Cabin Five.
It’s legendary because it’s absolutely gorgeous where it’s located even though the cabin itself is pretty trashed.
It was a trippy trip. I hadn’t ever done a songwriting sabbatical in the jungle…and it was the jungle.
I set up my little recording devices and had my guitar and ūkulele with me and loved it. However my life was really busy in those days so when I got back to Kihei, I sort of forgot about it all.
Yesterday I was perusing one of my hard drives and found the songs I recorded.
This is one I really like. It’s not sonically perfect in terms of recording quality but it’s a sweet and nice piece of music obviously inspired by my life in Hawai’i. It has that sound…
