I got this, working my way in that direction, did some of the sections already, I like how he focuses on pretty much everything that made calculus impossible for me. After drilling this much on those topics, it should get light years easier.

Great book. The problems are not hard but they can get very detailed and tedious at times but that's fine; it makes you focus. I found myself brushing up on basic algebra skills quite a bit while using this book.
I really really want more of this kind of material. I'm about to get my PhD. The last 12 months has been me relearning some numerical analysis, how to tackle PDEs and relearning my calculus. Textbooks in general are so terribly framed imo. The nomenclature is overly compacted too early into the introduction of a subject and is frustrating. RUclips videos of people doing stuff whole talking about it has saved my life. If more books were as explicit as this one is, just for the introductory section, they would be far far far more useful to their intended audiences

For one I can say I actually have one of these books you show! Great book, it's how I originally learned really basic calculus (couldn't grasp the later concepts). After I studied a bit more, everything going forward in the book made so much sense, definitely my favorite calculus book just off of simplicity.

I should get a PDF for this book. A math book in the form of a PDF makes studying math a lot easier and more fun. This should be the trend when studying math. So, the authors and publishers should consider this.

Look for Calculus Made Easy by Silvanus P. Thompson. The paperback, not the revised edition. You will understand what you're doing.
I have the hardback and I think it's great aside from Gardner putting the section on limits in the beginning. Is that what you didn't like about it or was it something else?
@@coreygraham860 It's been too many years for me to remember. I don't think it was that. I should go back and look at the hardcover again. All I can remember about it is that it somehow fell short of the first edition.
The first edition has a curios problem example where it's obvious that the Brits followed a different set of rules when naming their millions, billions, and trillions. I think they use 12 sets of three zeros for a billion. That would be a million million, or a quintillion. whereas, in the US, our billion is 3 sets of three zeros. It's been over 50 years since I found that odd little thing and it confused me no end.
My only other comment is that my paperback had fallen apart and been replaced and then glued together again so many times. I like that book because it did not get too crazy and I was a novice and still am. I'm sure the hardcover is an excellent book, and I probably overstated my objection to it. I don't know it well enough to recommend it is all.

I TAUGHT MYSELF CALCULUS IN 1976-1977. I STUDIED WHAT WAS THE EQUIVALENT OF CALCULUS 1,2 & 3. SUBSEQUENTLY IN SEPTEMBER 1980 I STARTED STUDYING EE AT NJIT IN NJ. I CLEPED CALCULUS 1&2 IN 90 MINUTES AND RECEIVED 5+4 = 9 COLLEGE CREDITS IN 90 MINUTES. THATS ONE COLLEGE CREDIT PER 10 MINUTES. I GOT 85'S ON BOTH 45 MINUTE TESTS. NOW I'M 66 YEARS YOUNG , RETIRED AND STUDYING MORE MATH THEN EVER. I STUDY EVERYTHING FROM TENSORS TO GR TO COMPLEX ANALYSIS TO ALL MATH TOPICS. I LOVE MATHEMATICS AND THE HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS. I WAS MARRIED ONCE IN THE 1980'S. BUT TERMINATED THE RELATIONSHIP. NOW, I DIDN'T HAVE ANY SEXUAL CONTACT IN 37 YEARS AND AM GOING STRONGER THAN EVER ON MY PDE'S.

It's hard to find a book like this in mathematics. Normally if the answers are given, it's only the final solution. And cases where some steps are given, the transition form one step to another is not as clear as you like.

Stewart’s Calculus textbook covers Calc1-3 and you can find it relatively inexpensive used.

This is good book but still my heart belongs to Thomas's Calculus.
Every time I see a so called "indefinite integral" I have a nervous break-down. I hate that notation, it's the worst way to denote the set of all primitives of a given function and it doesn't even specify on which subset of the domain of the function you are looking for them. Usually, you interpret it as "the set of all primitives (or antiderivatives, as somebody might happen to call them) defined on the largest subset of the domain of the function under the integral sign such that a primitive exist", but still, in the answer such set is not specified. It should be banned from Mathematics.
