In this episode, we discuss "The Art of Losing" by Yoon Choi. How does point of view help reveal a character's mental state? How does point of view in this story help build tension? How can a story explore an idea with plot? How can side-plots and side-characters help explore a theme? How does point of view intersect with the show/tell advice? What can we learn about point of view from the cognitive predisposition for confabulation? Can JC connect story-craft with experiments on split-brain patients? How can giving all the information still create a tension of uncertainty in the story?

Why Is This Good? is a podcast from the Naples Writers' Workshop in which we read successful stories and ask "Why is this good?"
Through our discussion, we hope to discover useful things to say about how fiction works, the craft of writing, and literary art. We try to find lessons for our own writing by closely examining well-written stories, and we hope to share some of those lessons with our audience.
Why is This Good? is produced in Naples, Florida by the Naples Writers' Workshop.

Just finished skinship by yoon Choi and loved the book and this short story. In this short story the class and educational differences of the husband and wife and the racial differences with the son-in-law, Sanjay, were smaller but important details.
