This is pedantic a little bit but... I wish people wouldn't separate "working class" from "have a college degree". Most of the people I went to college with have working class jobs. Those two groups are not distinct anymore, and the working class people with thousands of dollars in debt because that degree turned out to be worthless in a difficult job economy are just as angry. That group is always overlooked and it is not one that has the same distinction. Working class people often do not bother voting at all.
I see what you are saying, but the Dems lost working class without degree voters. They didn't really lose college educated working class. They need a way to talk to those people. College loan forgiveness is great, but that was only affecting one section of the working class. I am not saying this guy was picking the best way to say it, but the Dems have already been talking to you and the people you went to college with.

And as Ben said, Dems do the things people ask, but nobody likes to pay attention.
it is not hard to distinguish a democrat from a republican. democrats are, at their most right-leaning, fairly standard-issue centrist politicians. republicans at their most right-leaning are outright nazis. the most left-wing democrat we have is elizabeth warren who wants single-payer healthcare, universal free childcare & pre-k, free public college, reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, and a wealth tax (among about 7000 other things). the most left-wing republican we have is mitt romney. and even mitt romney is more conservative than the most right-wing democrat.

The minute he starts appearing on the MSNBCs and CNN on a regular basis, he's going to turn just like every other before him. We delivered boxes of signatures in favor of the recall. We lost, but we gave it our all. I follow and will rally my Congressman and other's . Ben for DNC CHAIRMAN !
I like what this guy is saying!!! We need to get lobbyists out of government!!! Just like math, you need to show your work!! And put this guy with Bernie!!!
It was many years later when I realized I had seen Bernie Sanders before 2016, because he appeared on the Daily Show (2011 according to my research, though I can’t find the clip) I remember a guy who was a self proclaimed socialist who made that “unpalatable” label make a ton of sense to me, at least the way he explained it. I get a similar vibe from this Ben Wickler guy, He seems ahead of the curve. I hope the Dems make the correct choice for once.
I think the next generation of Democratic leadership needs to be led by people who are able to talk “on the cuff,” are quick on their feet, and don’t resort to memorized phrases and platitudes (like the “corporatists” as John said). I truly wanted Kamala to win and have a ton of respect for her, but the “rehearsed” rhetoric sank her campaign. There was a surge of energy for her at first, but it plateaued because people realized that she kept repeating the same speech, and every interviewer asked different questions but her answers were always the same rehearsed lines. It was an enormous missed opportunity not to sit with Theo Von and Rogan. Or maybe it wasn’t because her team knew she couldn’t handle going “off script” for 3 hours. We need political leadership who aren’t afraid to go on these podcasts and can talk like normal human beings. Although the “bro podcast” sphere leans right, a lot of those folks are either moderate or apolitical. So many persuadable voters that they missed (and yes if you want to be president of the entire country, you need to meet voters where they are). It’s really less about ideology (most democrats believe in basically the same things anyway), but more about how articulate, nimble, and persuasive of a speaker one is. Biden was an utter disaster in that sense and Kamala won most of the coalition back, but let’s be honest here, she wasn’t persuading any new people.
Let’s see… R’s are taking away reproductive rights, religious freedom, the right to join a union, taxing the middle class out of existence, the right to peacefully assemble, the right to decie what your children can read… and I’m sure I’ve missed several more. The D’s are behind restoring ALL of these. Harris offered fair taxation, housing assistance, and the continuation of Biden’s fight against inflation. I’m sure I’ve missed a whole lot more. The two parties couldn’t be any more different. But, If Gaza is your issue, you vote for the candidate that will support your right to protest and not the guy who’s going to send the Army after you.
Yeah, it's not about nations; nations are (currently at least) a secondary power to wealth. Wealthy oligarchs run the US, Israel, Russia, & even China.
Politicians spend more time and effort fighting each other then they do fighting for what's best for the country. There's no way everything is totally polar opposite...it's power and money not for constituents.
If we can just swap out all of government to people like Wikler, regardless of Party. What does a multi millionaire / billionaire know about the working class and how they live day to day?
Jon Stewart & Ben Wikler for president! 🎉 The Australians receive a breakdown accounting via mail of how their tax money is spent. New Zealanders are required to submit a “report card” grading their government’s performance.
This is the first time I've been excited about anyone within the democratic party speaking about Democrats. I hope more people are exposed to his passion and focus.
Making Ben Wikler dnc chair is the smartest, most obvious decision the Democratic party could possibly make right now, which is why I'm fully confident that they will pick Rahm Emanuel.
Wisconsin indigenous person here; Wikler’s strategy included the first time native voters were broadly represented in the message outreach. Get him to the national stage NOW.
Trying to push untrusted candidates on people, based solely on partisan affiliation, is exactly why the "Democratic" party lost big this year. _Never_ vote along party lines. Vote for the best candidate, or you're voting against your own best interests.
One observation as a non-American who has followed American politics for many years - the number of democrat leaders strong and convincing in policy is so high. On the other hand you hear Republicans and the word nutjob begins to float around in my mind. How on earth can't Americans tell the difference

You need to win the messaging war by independent media on social media (influencers and journalist). You have to counter the right wing messaging that gets to people by saying the most offensive things and getting people to treat it as "just a joke, harmless." That's where it starts.

You fix the roads in Wisconsin, but Fox and other right wing media keep telling people the roads are horrible and ... people believe them. THAT is the problem.
I'm not sure you were paying attention. He didn't just say Evers fixed the roads, but that Evers then campaigned on having fixed the roads and significantly expanded his lead in an election cycle where he historically would have been expected to lose.
8:00… defending the status quo… Many people generally believe that Harris lost the election on The View (I think..?), when she said there’d be nothing she’d change.
I hope he becomes the DNC chairman because like most Democrats, he sounds like a person that can answer a question! He will block any attempt for someone like Bernie from running against the candidate that the DNC wants!!!

The future of American politics.
Wisconsin here .yes this guy😊
He's certainly the type of leader that this party has been missing. I am astonished at his authenticity and passion, it's a rare sight.
This guy is awesome. Wow. Please make him DNC Chair.
Lil libe re al weasel fits the mold
@@scottwood4055 lying donald trump fascist.
He’s a wannabe establishment weasel! Stop being naive!
This guy is so lame and out of touch. He wouldn’t even agree that the democrats messaging isn’t working.
Oh, c'mon, he's a career Democrat. He's a "nice guy" for as long as he has no incentives otherwise. The minute he starts appearing on the MSNBCs and CNN on a regular basis, he's going to turn just like every other before him. That military-industrial complex/oil/pharmaceutical money is just too much and too sweet. Bernie was the one that got closest, and he was shot down in the back by the same people he was trying to help. The DNC has no reason to exist any more
I work at a computer all day, make 6 figures, have to budget to make my student loan payments from month to month and definitely FEEL like a working-class citizen.
You arn't.
"Pepper Jack in the cheese curds," is as Wisconsin as you can get when it comes to spicy. Charlie Berens would agree.
Ben I support you from Brooklyn NY.. 2024 was my second national election with you. I supported Wisconsins recall of the governor. He was horrid. I donated and campaigned for that recall. We delivered boxes of signatures in favor of the recall. We lost, but we gave it our all. I follow and will rally my Congressman and other's . Ben for DNC CHAIRMAN !
Thank you from Badger State!!
This guy is one of the real ones
This man is absolutely adorable, so smart too, hope he gets things done
He’s done a fantastic job in Wisconsin. We could use him running national politics for the Dems.
He's an unlikable energy vampire no chance lol
@chris a bot, not know Ben Wikler
All elected officials regardless of party need to remember they are there to work for the people. Results, speak louder than words.
This guy has my vote. Now if we can just get the DNC to listen to winners.
That's already more votes than kamala got in the primary 🤣
@ I can’t tell tell if you are a bot or an incel loser. 😂
You have no grasp on facts or grammar.
EXACTLY
I do hope that Ben Wikler will win!!!! I’ve been watching this guy and he’s great!!!!
Minor FYI: to speak "on the cuff", is to refer to notes on one's cuff; to speak "off the cuff", is to speak unscripted.
There are no longer 2 parties. Now, it's just 1 big party beholden to their corporate overlords.
Israel you mean...
@@yogeshkmrful not just Israel, saudi arabia, other countries but corporations and the people that run them.
Uhhh... as a lifelong Dem it's pretty clear that Dems became the party of Big Corporations...
YOU GO, WIKLER !!! LOVE YOU & YOUR ENERGY !!
He has a Tim Walz vibe 😊👍🇺🇸
That's a bad thing. Walz is creepy and a communist
this guys fantastic, hope the democratic party’s listening!!!
That was so much better than I thought it could be. Thanks.
Politicians spend more time and effort fighting each other then they do fighting for what's best for the country. There's no way everything is totally polar opposite...it's power and money not for constituents.
A country by the rich
For the rich
To protect the rich
The rich get richer...
And lower and upper middle class love to help them because they believe the rich willl help no matter what
GREAT CONVO! I would vote for him!🦌💌❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Seems like the exact kind of guy we need leading the party
The real test, can Ben convince Jon to run for president
If we can just swap out all of government to people like Wikler, regardless of Party. What does a multi millionaire / billionaire know about the working class and how they live day to day?
Jon Stewart & Ben Wikler for president! 🎉 The Australians receive a breakdown accounting via mail of how their tax money is spent. New Zealanders are required to submit a “report card” grading their government’s performance.
I've never heard of this guy before this video, but I like him a lot.
This is the first time I've been excited about anyone within the democratic party speaking about Democrats. I hope more people are exposed to his passion and focus.
I like this guy.
Making Ben Wikler dnc chair is the smartest, most obvious decision the Democratic party could possibly make right now, which is why I'm fully confident that they will pick Rahm Emanuel.
Let’s hope Ben Wikler gets elected to DNC chair
He better come up with some better ideas than he had here.
Wisconsin indigenous person here; Wikler’s strategy included the first time native voters were broadly represented in the message outreach. Get him to the national stage NOW.
Keep it coming Jon 💙
..we need more insight like this!
Remember when Dems called Stewart racist for saying covid came from China? Pepperidge farm Remembers.
🔥🔥BEN WIKLER🔥🔥
Get this man in at the DNC
and lets f’ing go!!!!!
Wow! I like this guy! A lot!
As a Wisconsinite, I’m such a fan of Ben Wikler and so excited to see him on the show!!
Could have used that vision for the future a few months ago. lol
i feel you. but that just means that the second best time is now to start promoting this message and push for change
8 years ago...
@@thed4nm4n Because we have suddenly found the virtuous path that we didn't see 4 weeks ago. Vote blue no matter who! 😂
I think it was the message and vision but it did not connect for enough people
Trying to push untrusted candidates on people, based solely on partisan affiliation, is exactly why the "Democratic" party lost big this year.
_Never_ vote along party lines. Vote for the best candidate, or you're voting against your own best interests.
Holy smokes, definitely didn't have "seeing a guy I went to high school with on the Daily Show" on my bingo card this year...
One observation as a non-American who has followed American politics for many years - the number of democrat leaders strong and convincing in policy is so high. On the other hand you hear Republicans and the word nutjob begins to float around in my mind.
How on earth can't Americans tell the difference
I have been trying to figure that out and it is driving me nuts. This guy has a little more charisma than most. I think that the party would be better with more Bens
Bc you're European brain is awash with socialist and defeatist policies such as "managed decline". There's a reason europe went from being the center of culture to totally irrelevant in the modern world. Don't export your failure to the greatest country on earth that also guarantees your safety. You're literally a US vassal 🤣
Jon Stewart recognizes what motivates people, knows what we need, and points it out. I love him for that.
So cool to see this but we still need him here in Wisconsin.
"Sometimes there's pepper-jack in the cheese curds!" Just about spit my coffee out!
Wikler makes me so hopeful for the future of the party.
🧐 how? Like AOC and Hackeem Jeffries and his AIPAC money ⁉️🤮
The country…
Not a word about pay-offs and corruption.........a lot of incompetence grows out of the "profit motive" and taking care of "myself".
We love Ben!!!
Ben is going to be a great asset for us nationally. He has done a great job here in Wisconsin. He needs to get the support necessary to implement the changes that are necessary to win.
So excited to see you have him on I really hope he wins
Dude looks like he just got off the court after a game of pick basketball and dint have time to shower 😊
“What are we doing?” 😂😂
I really like this guy!!
Go Ben! On Wisconsin!
PUT THIS MAN IN CHARGE!!
Get more people like this!
I really hope this guy builds this energy that he’s so full of here and he can create momentum in this new direction because the Dems need a reboot and rebuild in the next 4 years.
You need to win the messaging war by independent media on social media (influencers and journalist). You have to counter the right wing messaging that gets to people by saying the most offensive things and getting people to treat it as "just a joke, harmless." That's where it starts.
“Just stop with the analytics! ! Just sign Juan soto! oh…” Jon Stewart with the callback man. such skilled comedy chops. Also guest seems pretty solid… we shall see
This guys kinda killing it
Dudes killing it like kamala kills brain cells 🍸
That was actually inspiring. thanks.
You fix the roads in Wisconsin, but Fox and other right wing media keep telling people the roads are horrible and ... people believe them. THAT is the problem.
Well, wasting money on asphalt roads without building rail, _is_ pretty horrible, but somehow I suspect that's not what people were upset about?
@@prophetzarquonyeah, you're several stops down the station on infrastructure spending unfortunately
Yeah right. I live in KY. Democrats have ignored us now for decades. And I'm sure they will continue.
Ben Wikler chair of DNC and Jon Stewart for President! Then you get a better USA.
Stop. I’m a fan of Jon Stewart but, he has no more business being president than Trump does.
Super articulate, sensible goals and listens to people. What’s not to love
