At £35, you'd have thought that an establishment like that would have discarded chips that had big black blotches on them. Personally, I wouldn't step foot in the grounds but maybe that's for other reasons....
Regardless of how you may feel about the owner, that looked a 10 out of 10 from the moment it came on screen. I actually would not be disappointed with that meal.

I’m a midlander like you but lived in Scotland for almost 20 years. Enjoy your trip to the top of the north. You’ll meet some amazing people. Like any place, food changes. So do your homework. You will have the best time! Ps. I love bagpipes. But each to their own. Enjoy Scotland!

What ever you think of Mr Trump, the man can do hotels. We stayed at Trump Las Vegas & we chose it as it was a no smoking hotel & and didn’t have a casino and the place was sumptuous! Nice job Lee!👍😊

The potatoes used for the chips were probably Ayrshire Tatties. Lovely variety and always makes a tasty chip.

As an Ayrshire man born and bred it's Ailsa Craig the rock or Paddy's Milestone half way between Scotland and Northern Ireland. It's also the start and end point of The Firth of Clyde depending on which direction you are sailing from. The stones from the rock are used to make curling stones in nearby Mauchline.

Beautiful stunning place and location. My elderly mother would absolutely love it there as she loves Scotland and all it’s heritage including the bagpipes. That fish and chips looked Devine however for me they lose a couple of points for adding a service charge and gratuities, how dare they. But taking nothing away that hotel is truly amazing. I remember once I was DJing, didn't know what the event was but it ended up being a funeral. They had these bagpipes in the garden, it started pissing down with rain and he sounded god awful. Everyone started coming back in and I had barely set up but the person that booked me was like "play anything" so I just hit play and Katrina and the waves walking on sunshine came on. People started dancing and it was more like a party than a funeral. I was only booked for 4 hours but the beers kept coming over and they kept having whip-arounds for me so went into the early hours of the morning. It was surreal!

The clientele they’re catering too has so much money they don’t care, and it probably keeps a lot of the riff raff out.

I’m from Scotland and I hate bagpipes - just nothing but shrieking in your ear! Also hate kilts as well - people have tried but have never got me in one. Even my best mates wedding I was best man but wore a suit rather than a kilt! 😂
I was there a few years ago and it is stunning! There's a big patio that leads out from the bar and overlooks the golf course and club house. Beautiful view and nice spot to have a cocktail.
The extra gratuity charges are what let’s it down , Scotland is not the USA when it comes to tips ! Great blog as usual Lee 👍

10 out of 10 Lee… what an experience as well. This is on the bucket list, after the fish and chips we walk around the course which is one of the best in the world. A few pennies more than AV8 and a Premier Inn. Might even persuade her indoors to caddy for me what ever meal she picks will be brilliant. Roll on next anniversary!

Hotel and room looked amazing plus what a view. Looking smart in jacket and jeans Lee. Typical posh hotel prices. People that can afford to stay there won't mind that, to everyone else it's crazy especially during this cost of living crisis we find ourselves in atm.

I’d have crossed out the service charge, added the same amount in as a gratuity, and then if questioned would have explained that I normally tip more, but have followed their instructions regarding a tip.

Not only is it naughty to add a service charge and then add a gratuity. To ask for all that and still get your dessert wrong! Diabolical!!
10% is considered a minimum service charge. If you feel the service was beyond the minimum the normal range is an increase to 18-25%. Long before President Trump was known for a desire to return America to greatness he applied the same philosophy to his Hotel business. I have never heard anyone complain about any of his properties. He does love the use of gold accents. Check out some pictures of his personal residences. Great video and that Hotel and grounds were both first class all the way.

Hey Lee! Omg - even if you didn’t like the food! Who can put a price on that amazing view from the hotel! Scotland showing off its incredible beauty! The sea view - it’s breathtaking! And the hotel itself speaks posh on a grandiose level! Fish and chips looked good though spotted a chip with a black bit there! Fish so delicious! That’s a lot of money for what you got for just yourself and doubling the tip plus you didn’t get the right dessert either! Should be a 9 at least on scoring! Grand building and grounds but that room…absolutely hideous! I just spent a couple of weeks in Jamaica and the room there was fantastic, clean and modern with a local vibe. All that dark wood and gold and ornate stuff, nah, give me a Premier Inn any day!

I agree Les... And the portion sizes were tiny... One fork full of Mushy Peas... A very small amount of dodgy looking Chips... Two small pieces of Haddock... And a dolls house sized ramekin portion of Tartare Sauce... And they wanted almost forty quid for that with a dessert that Lee hadn't ordered... They're taking the mickey...
