This romance made my heart cry, but that's why I think it's the best. Not all love stories end well. I understand Solas. One of the reasons I hate him is the way he broke up with Lavellan (and why him being revealed as Fen'Harel only makes the breakup even worse)... is how he did it. In modern Dalish culture... the vallaslin is a mark of adulthood, which also denotes the virtues of gods the vallaslin represents. In Ancient Arlathan, they were slave markings. While you're walking the crossroads in Tresspasser... you find out he removed the vallaslin, freeing the elves. in a way... a bare faced elf becomes his 'vallaslin', the lack of mark signifying loyalty to Fen'Harel in acient times. From Lavellan's standpoint, Solas has always spurned, detested, mocked, disrespected the modern Dalish culture, without ever providing evidence to his claims beyond 'I saw it, in the Fade' and demanding that he be listened to... because why? He knows the truth, even though he presents himself as a 'humble apostate' who 'saw it in the Fade'. (He cannot comprehend why not one Dalish would listen to the humble apostate, because deep down he always sees himself as Fen'Harel and can't escape it.) When he tells her the truth about the vallaslin, SHE CHOOSES to trust him, even when he had presented no evidence for it, never has hinted it and allows him to remove it. To her, It feels like he marked her as His, because this was important to him. By doing this she's saying 'Yes. I am willing to risk the scorn of my people to be with you'. To her it is the beginning of their journey together to discover the real history of the Dalish... and then he turns around and says 'Well this was fun. I'll break up with you because your job is too much for me to handle.' This turns a sacred moment for her... into a fucking joke. That he never saw her for her, but for the mark on her face. He only used her to get close enough to remove something that is offensive to him (always in his face every time he looked at her, the mark of the dalish) and now that his goal was achieved, he has no need for her anymore (He had relived his moment from the past and discarded Her). So, yeah, he deserves to have his head broken for this. Even though he 'loves' her... there's no respect. He says it, true... but he's never truly shown it during their romance. He's not done anything to accomodate her needs, when she's ready to bend over backwards for him. Some Lavellans might forgive him, others won't. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, Solas.
@@lightests That is true... and it is shown in subtle ways. Better caught once you find out who he is. But my comment is exploring the scene strictly from Lavellan's POV. At the time of their break up she knows nothing about any of of Solas' motivations or reasons because he never tells her anything. Even you might have bashed your head against the wall wondering what deep dark secret the apostate hobo has to break up with her like that (before doscovering who he truly is for the first time.) In tresspasser, she does learn some of his motivations, but is stuck trying to reconcile modern dalish legend with physical evidence. Here Lavellan's character is shown again. She doubles down on her hurt condemning him or chooses to love him, thus redeeming him. To love him or not. But again... despite not having ulterior motives, Solas AGAIN fails to show her respect. He could have removed the mark from her hand from the get go. Why did he wait until she lost her fucking arm >.

I never liked Solas as a romance option, and this analysis just reaffirms my vow to stop in in DA4. He is so far removed, so disconnected from reality. He isn’t worth our time, and his plans are mad.
well...thats right. He is smart and I love that about him...but you are right... He never respected my decisions the same way I respected his... Interesting analysis, thank you for that.
"The best gift I can offer...the truth" proceeds to lie through his teeth with only one bit of truth. >.> I saw it in 'the fade'. I am totally *not* Fen'Harel and frequently did this spell to free the elves that came to me. Nope! Not at all! Oh btw I'm leaving you cause if I stay I might not free my people... I mean you might not free YOUR people hahaha yep not planning on destroying all you build...
Every time I watch this scene, I can't get over the look in Solas' eyes before he breaks up with Lavellan. You can just see the agony of the choice and knowing what he has to do and that it will hurt her. He's seriously one of the most interesting villain-romances that Bioware has done. I'm almost tempted to carry on a Solas romance into my world state for DA4 just for added drama.
There's no "canon" Inquisitor or path of decisions. Outside main story events, our stories are supposed to be uniquely our own as much is possible with the choices and actions we're given Now as for how dialogue is constructed, yeah, humans were most definitely used as the base with every other race an afterthought that occasionally gets a mention specific to them. Origins, this game is not
I didn't figure he was Fen'harel but I did figure he was hiding something when he says "you've impress me" or "you're not what I expected" or "you've earned my respect" it always sounded like a sorry damn bastard left my elf warrior : (
Am I the only one who can't help but laugh at the animation of her pushing him? xD Don't get me wrong, this scene is emotional and hits hard. I just love the animation and how many times she pushes him lolol
The way his voice breaks when he says “ I’m sorry” I remember my 1st play through I knew something was off and got my heart broke then romanced Cullen but solas just ugh 😫 I just need DA4
After romancing Solas, I didn't romance another character in that game, and still forced him to do everything with my Lavellan (I named her Ashiva. I love that name). It was a punishment, in a way. To hurt him and to hurt my Lavellan, but it was also just to keep him close because I love this egghead :(
@@onlyoddity Honestly i love Cullen but idk if it's because he's an elf and most games i role an elf or he's just misunderstood and he has pure intentions i guess lol i really don't know
Whaaat I've never done this, she just walks away herself, that's... I would say awesome, but it's not for obvious reasons... though I still somehow love it :D
This. Love the sassy anger. It just hurts knowing how broken he is about it all. He can't even regret the original mistake he made anymore because he knows how he feels about her and never would've met her had he not done what he did. Solas is my favorite romance. Its so deep and powerful.
I like the angry shove for my playthrough as well. My Inky would follow him to hell and back, tries to convince him to let her go with him in Trespasser but in that moment, I imagine she'd be furious. You drop a bomb on me (not the one you intended to drop, but one that deeply affects me all the same), kiss me and tell me I'm beautiful then break up with me?
I never got this before. I never drank from the well. I usually Listen to what Solas tells me. He just has a way of making me do whatever he wants. I also like listening to him talk about the things he discovered. I was bullshitted when he said no to me. Reminded me of Persona 3 portable when Junpei denied my Feelings. Like are you kidding me.
SPOILERS for Trespasser: Tbh, I wish there was an option where you went with him in Tresspasser. Like a bad end that was exclusive to the romance. If you selected certain things in the game, he never leaves you. I understand why it wasn’t done, but in origins you can do far worse things. Like sell your cousin for a night to a noble, make a mother kill herself and then kill her child so her death is in vain, damn an entire village to death, etc. Especially in Tresspasser, there’s a line where you say something along the lines of: “Take me with you.” And Solas refuses. But then elves from everywhere are vanishing? It could make sense for your Lavellan to go too. And then in the fourth game you have to either convince her to leave him, or kill them both or whatever they plan to do. serious missed opportunity.
He loves her, that's why she can't come with and is allowing others to join his cause. He knows she will distract him from his goals and probably become apart of his demise. She became a world symbol, not just a regular elf. There's a reason she can't just go /:
honestly, the anger of Solas is surprising, i thought he thought highly of Mythal. to me, the meaning of the Vallaslins die out with their time and are no longer a mark of slavery. But since the Creators aren't what the Dalish thought they were, i understand they wouldn't want to honor them anymore.
If we don't get a chance to redeem him in DA4. I will be furious. I am hoping he isn't the big bad in DA4. Maybe he is at the start but I hope the Evanuris become the real enemy.
I have a feeling that maybe at the beginning or halfway through the game, he succeeds in tearing the veil down. It'll be inevitable. This will then unleash the remaining evanuris/old gods and Corypheus (we didn't kill him, just physically forced him into the fade) back into this new world, and creates problems of its own. Maybe another Blight is triggered by these events but like, the Blight of all Blights. That's what I'm guessing at least.
In order to do most of my Lavellan x Solas music videos, especially when I wanted to record dialogue, I had to therefore turn down the music whilst playing the game. So yeah, there's no music LOL. I was also curious I guess, because in reality, you don't always have music going on in the background. I think no music makes what Solas does appear even more awkward and cruel. When Lavellan leaves him at the end, for example, there's no music to make him seem less lonely. It's just so heart-breaking to hear him say "I'm sorry", no music at all, before the scene fades out. Love it!

Solas: I didnt say this to hurt you Also Solas: BTW... I know a spell that can remove your tattoos. Solas: I am sorry... it was selfish of me to ask. Also Solas: You deserve better so just remove them already /lol
Bruh, at this point, I had done so much shit with my female lavellan to get Solas to like me. Full spirit, agreed to a lot of his shit, rift mage, etc. You can bet that I was pissed enough to choose the aggressive options here.
Old comment but, same!! His hands keep going through her face/body, I cackle every time it happens. Totally ruins the scenes, I suppose, but they're still funny 😂
*canon According to Bioware statistics the most played Inquisitors were a Human Rogue, Human Warrior and Human Mage, in that order. Also not everyone who played an elf is female, and not everyone who played a female elf romanced Solas. And why would the trailer change anything? Everybody knew Solas was going to be in anyway, and a lot of people do not like Solas too, so very unlikely.
*coughs* I shouldnt have been watching this ... I stopped all 4 or 6 playthroughs on the gain skyhold and the one quest where you deal with hawk in the fade. I have no idea whats going on but yup i just spoiled for myself because im to curious. XD

For someone who will destroy the world because he felt responsible for his people's downfall, chickening out of telling someone you love the truth was cowardly. And choosing to tell her the Dalish have been branding themselves with slave markings? If you have already done that, might as well break up with her for good, since you plan to go it alone anyway.

But my comment is exploring the scene strictly from Lavellan's POV. At the time of their break up she knows nothing about any of of Solas' motivations or reasons because he never tells her anything.
Even you might have bashed your head against the wall wondering what deep dark secret the apostate hobo has to break up with her like that (before doscovering who he truly is for the first time.)
In tresspasser, she does learn some of his motivations, but is stuck trying to reconcile modern dalish legend with physical evidence.
You make me wanna get a fancy PC so I can run mods like this and have beautiful butterfly clothes.
It's based on a dragonfly actually)
(He cannot comprehend why not one Dalish would listen to the humble apostate, because deep down he always sees himself as Fen'Harel and can't escape it.)
When he tells her the truth about the vallaslin, SHE CHOOSES to trust him, even when he had presented no evidence for it, never has hinted it and allows him to remove it.
I'll break up with you because your job is too much for me to handle.'
This turns a sacred moment for her... into a fucking joke.
Damn thats so interesting...and makes me even more sad now
I never liked Solas as a romance option, and this analysis just reaffirms my vow to stop in in DA4. He is so far removed, so disconnected from reality. He isn’t worth our time, and his plans are mad.
well...thats right. He is smart and I love that about him...but you are right... He never respected my decisions the same way I respected his... Interesting analysis, thank you for that.
So true
//applause

@Melody Ackerman I figured as much myself. This post was more my own catharsis to the choice he actually made.
I always believed the female mage elf romancing Solas was the Canon game. It's definitely the most thought out and drawn out and most unique.
With how the options are for elves - human is the most canonical. Elf always feels like a moron because only a shem wozld ask some questions.
There's no "canon" Inquisitor or path of decisions. Outside main story events, our stories are supposed to be uniquely our own as much is possible with the choices and actions we're given
Now as for how dialogue is constructed, yeah, humans were most definitely used as the base with every other race an afterthought that occasionally gets a mention specific to them. Origins, this game is not
I didn't figure he was Fen'harel but I did figure he was hiding something when he says "you've impress me" or "you're not what I expected" or "you've earned my respect" it always sounded like a sorry damn bastard left my elf warrior : (
The look on his face when he says "I can't do that" just crumbles my resolve. :(
Solas is such a sweet talker. He had me at "Your face," lmao.
Am I the only one who can't help but laugh at the animation of her pushing him? xD Don't get me wrong, this scene is emotional and hits hard. I just love the animation and how many times she pushes him lolol
6:57 Props to the Inquisitor’s VA! You can just hear the absolute hurt in the tremble of her voice 😭💔
To hurt him and to hurt my Lavellan, but it was also just to keep him close because I love this egghead :(
@@onlyoddity Honestly i love Cullen but idk if it's because he's an elf and most games i role an elf or he's just misunderstood and he has pure intentions i guess lol i really don't know
now i wish i acted angry towards him. it's more fitting than me begging him to stay.
Years later and this romance still has me broken
Every single time I see this it's just as heart breaking as the first. He is such a well written character.
Whaaat I've never done this, she just walks away herself, that's... I would say awesome, but it's not for obvious reasons... though I still somehow love it :D
"Is there anything in this world you won't tear down just to prove how smart you are!?"
Never heard that line before. Amazing.
Knowing who Solas is and his relation with Mythal makes the opening rant that much more impactful.
its so awkward without music
me selling my soul to literally every Daedra in skyrim:
Cool...so?
I never tell Solas that I want to turn things back to the way they were after playing Trespasser. I feel like an enabler if I do.
This. Love the sassy anger. It just hurts knowing how broken he is about it all. He can't even regret the original mistake he made anymore because he knows how he feels about her and never would've met her had he not done what he did. Solas is my favorite romance. Its so deep and powerful.
I never pursued this line of conversation but I like it!
Just realized that he originally learned to remove the Vallaslin when he freed the slaves of Arlathan.
This made me unmeasurably angry
SPOILERS for Trespasser:
Tbh, I wish there was an option where you went with him in Tresspasser.
I can't believe I got my heart broken by an egg.
SOLAS: Removes Vallaslin.
INQUISITOR: Scars every where.
SOLAS: Puts Vallaslin back on her face😂
:choked: 🤣🤣
I love your character 💜
With Tresspaser I love/hate him even more
;-; she expresses my true feelings man I wanted to throw my baby boi but I’m to emotionally distraught to be sassy to him.
may I ask what armor you and solas are wearing so beautiful
Mods on pc
PC Nexus Mods:
Lavellan:
Hair: Dreads-of-the-Wolf_EF
Outfit: Libelula White and Silver Light - EF
Fenris-like tattoo: Sheps Tattoo Collection Elf 11-20
Solas:
Outfit: Solas Pajamas - By Kamael
I love your inquisitor! Also, thanks for this!
honestly, the anger of Solas is surprising, i thought he thought highly of Mythal. to me, the meaning of the Vallaslins die out with their time and are no longer a mark of slavery.
Took me a hot minute to realize the music and ambient noise was turned off. At least I hope so bc otherwise there's just so much... awkwardness lmao
Love it!
@@GemmaGreen1993 sometimes immersion is painful lmao
I am in Solavellanhell BUT my face went 😲🤭😏
When she pushed him, called him things, left and let him standing there with a sad face.
This man gone trough things but sometimes, he deserves this kind of consequence
I know we’re all mad and we want to fry the egg but I know he loved the inquisitor truly and deeply.
praying for his redemption arc in the next game
I'm play Inquisition for the first time (currently romancing Cullen) and I'm almost done. I definitely want to play again, but I'm thinking for romancing Solas next..... After watching all these videos of what happens if you romance him, I don't know if my little baby heart could take it.😅😂
That why I always choose Cullen... He wait to long for love.
i fucking love the angry options in these games
She is unbelievably beautiful.
Solas: I didnt say this to hurt you
Also Solas: BTW...
You'd think he'd offer to heal those scars too lol
Im stuck with the 360 version. With the crap graphics
Then you haven't experienced the true Inquisition. Trust me, I know. Once I switched to Xbox One, it was like night and day.
Old comment but, same!! His hands keep going through her face/body, I cackle every time it happens. Totally ruins the scenes, I suppose, but they're still funny 😂
The last choice broke my heart - I've never had the heart to do that xD
I played DAI on my console but after seeing these mods damn! gonna have to buy a PC and start all over. But seriously whys mods only on pc man
wow this still hurts my feelings years later haha
Solas better watch it , hasn't he heard about a woman scorned.
She was so beautiful. How on earth did her face become so mangled?
High Constable Shemlen
Solas you liar
+1 respect to this boy for not looking at her boobs
Man this whole solas thing got me feeling like I’m not even the main character no more😭😭😭😭ima catch that baldie in the next game for that lol
4:10 Ironbull greatly disapproves
Anyone else hoping for Lavellan to knock sense into him in Da4v or a Solas redemption arc?
Do you need a super expensive pc to run dai with good mods? I want to play it with mods soo bad 😭😭😭😭
I have a middle of the road PC and it runs DAI pretty well.
dragon age games play surprisingly well even on bad computers. Gotta luv it.
The clothes on the character models are really beautiful, how can you get them?
The link to the mod is in the description
I finally did this romance. I want to re do so I can have my character push him omg. My heart.
It sounds less dramatic without the background music, for some reason.
I'm still heartbroken.
I hated him so much after the romance ugh
Still do.
Sooooo with dragon age 4's teaser trailer? Can we assume that the amount of people that romamced him as a female elf will now be bloody cannon? 😂 😂 😂
*canon
According to Bioware statistics the most played Inquisitors were a Human Rogue, Human Warrior and Human Mage, in that order.
XD
Would have been better had you enabled the music kind of takes away from the scene.
Beautiful dresses
How do u get the long hair bun
It's a downloaded mod from Nexus Mods for Dragon Age. The hair bun is called Dreads-of-the-Wolf_EF :) I absolutely adore the website for its variety in modding the Dragon Age series.

@@GemmaGreen1993 Thank u I will try to download it
This is why I screw the Knight commander on the desk-
I have what may be a dumb question but here it is. Is that clothing a PC mod because it looks really cool on both of them?
Are these modded outfits? I don't recall these. Especially Solas' outfit.
What mod are those clothes
Man I wish console had mods
We're you get that armor

Excuse me if this is a bit late, but what outfit is that, how can I get it, and does it come in green?
All the Nexus mods I used are in the description above :)
Check out Nexus mods. The site is amazing!
Damn your inquisitor is pretty!
Oo she pretty
I hate him! But I want him! 😂
Dobby is a free elf ?
So with the orb Solas could have made things the way he wanted without having to murder countless Millions
The hair chico, they never lie. (worst thing about DAI)
I wish she would say something more elven like 'Halla shit! It's a bit corny but' bullshit just seems unnatural for a Dalish elf to me 🤷
How do people keep making beautiful characters? I see youtuber after youtuber making really good characters for vids such as these and then I see my own and I think "these look like shit"
What scares me off of this romance, is knowing he will just break up and leave in the end. That’s a shame, shame on BioWare
Let me tell you something, stock clothing looks so shit, I watched this video just to enjoy the mods, man, so great.
BTW, one of the biggest regrets I have in this game is not having a conversation where high affinity solas remove the Vallaslin even when not romanced, although I liked him, I could never see my Lavellan with him...
Way too much scars
Scars are beautiful
@@onlyoddity for a male yh but female :(
