He was indeed the top artist. Not only an excellent sarangi player, but a brilliant tabla player, sitar player and a singer and composer. My music grew in his presence at all india radio bhopal where he was a staff artist.
Kamalbir Nandra ji, you are fortunate, I don't understand music technically, but it appeals me and affects me very profoundly, the notations and clarity of the Ustad ji marvellous, tabla player also of the great ranks. Zaheer Zulfqar Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, at Lahore.
Is there any recording of him on another instrument ?It would be a great historical document for future generations to admire. . You had great past karma to be in his presence in this lifetime.
I feel blessed to hear this! This composition in Malkauns is truly unique. I have heard a lot of piece of Malkauns in different instruments including Sarangai, I am a fan of this raaga- but never heard anything of this class! Thanks dear uploader. And at the same time I feel sorry for 5 dumb-ass fellows who disliked the video.
Can't find words suitable to express myself.......what a gem .....w h a t a g e m....what a master piece....what a unique composition....never heard of anything like this before....such a difficult, robust, skillful yet astonishingly esthetic and devinely melodious ....and what a command over the instrument....anyone wants to play anything like this needs a real soul connection with the instrument....the sarangi is not a separate entity from Ustadji...its a part of him... Sarangi, Esraj jaise instrument aur jo jo ise shikhte hai hai, iski sadhna karte hai, inhe bajate hay....un pandit aur ustad o ko humme aur jada barhawa dena chaiye ...aisa mujhe lagta hai...
I had the great honour and extreme good fortune of interviewing Khansaheb for the digital archives of All India Radio at their Mumbai studios, along with our late Music Critic, the incomparable Batuk Diwanji, (for The Times of India, where I worked as an editor)...the well-known flute-maestro Pandit Nityanand Haldipur was the producer in charge and personally supervised the two- hour sessions (two of them) in the course of which we made the maestro also sing and not just play his divine music....what a treasure house of deep learning and insights he was. One of Khansaheb's disciples, Shri Munshiji, also took part in the interview and he facilitated the entre exchange and the logistics of fetching the Master from Bhopal to Bambayee...Thanks for sharing this
Dear Mr Nadkarni, if you were involved with the 2 hour long interview of this great Sarangi player, shouldn't you try and get it out in the public domain for all music lovers to know about him?
@@orawal Pranams Sir ji. Thanks for your suggestion. However, may I say much as I understand and appreciate your sentiment I simply don't have the time or energy for what u r proposing ... I am afraid I have number of constraints including a recent surgery ( and the less said about all this the better.) ... I am also sorry to say no thus. How about you? May I suggest, if you don't mind, if you can ask AIR yourself as a passionate rasika and committed citizen? I am sure you will succeed spectacularly. With warm regards and best of luck.
Dear Mr Nadkarni, Thank you for your kind reply. I am 80+ myself with 3 major surgeries in recent years and very busy with my own family and 6 grandchildren. But I will see if I can take up on your kind suggestion.
Woh! What a play! Melts heart. Bahoot khoob Abdul Latif Khan Ustadjee. One thing I do not understand being such a great instrument why Sarengi (also Esraj, I feel crying of Sarengi is deeper than Esraj) Ustads are not evaluated the way they are supposed to be? It is an inappropriate part of Indian classical music. My father late Rahim Uddin Siddiqui(translator of Agamenon and a famous history book on Dhaka etc. published bY Bangla Academy) was fond of classical music and used to arrange classical programs at our residence. In the year 1973(as far I remember) I came to know an interesting belief regarding Esraj. That knight Ustad Abid Hossen Khan and his son Ustad Sahadat Hossen khan (son and grandson of Ustad Ayet Ali Khan, Ayet Ali Khan is brother of Baba Alauddin Khan) played Sarod accompanied by Esraj Ustad Fuljhori Khan. Ustad Fuljhori Khan was younger than Ustad Abed Hossen Khan but used look elder than Ustad Abed Hossen Khan. It was said by Ustads that the reason for looking older is due the sound effect of playing Esraj. It is been said too that string Instrument Esraj also makes teeth thin! I do not know any scientific explanation behind it. But I have a curiosity to know whether the same belief belonged by the Sarengi Ustads or not? If anyone informs me I will be grateful. Thank you.
