This fountain has been uncovered and covered many times over the years. My friends and I uncovered it one day when we went to the beach but it wasn't too sunny and we were bored. It is part of the Tynemouth beach heritage but it doesn't work now, like the fountain on Tynemouth front street. It would be nice for it be be uncovered but why? What benefit would it have to Tynemouth Longsands? Leave it under the sand for archaeologists in the future to discover.

It should be open to the public, this is history, why hide it?

@@LesleyTanMortyMortisha Exactly Lesley. If it was in London it would have heritage protection and be a restored artifact. Geordies get nowt. It's maybe time Geordies started doing things for themselves instead of relying on the billionaires and Eton old boys to do anything for them. Incidentally the Links Road mob dug this up in the early 1960s. Guys like Peem Arnott, John Brown, Alan Thompson and the Bococks did a bit of digging for it and we got it out except that the authorities took over and refilled the site.

Why was the fountain only uncovered for 1 day? why not keep it open as it should be , let the whole world see it as an historical artifact.

Surely it would be a MAJOR Tynemouth attraction?

Never knew it was there... why did they bury it again?
I reckon it should have something built around it to keep the sand off

I wonder if there's any other hidden treasures underneath our beaches.

The Luftwaffe dropped quite a few hidden treasures down on that very beach. I saw the maps when I worked for Tynemouth Borough Council. I filed them under "Who knows". Seriously I did. Better than Neil who just chucked them in a heap in the cellar.
