  • Severn Valley Railway, a series of films covering the railway from top to bottom and everything in between. This film, the magnificent Bridgenorth Station in all its glory.
Home to the adventurous subscriber. As well as films we have a bi-weekly Vlog to keep up to date on the previous and next week’s videos, and a chance for all to air their views on a variety of subjects, why not join in.
My passion has been walking, a while ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and walking does not come naturally any more, however the more I walk the easier it gets, for now anyway. I hope these videos will inspire others to keep going and hanging on in there. I try to cover variety of subjects, such as old abandoned railways, and canals. I love the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, with its rich history and I usually take my camera whenever we holiday in the southwest and Cornwall. The rugged coastal paths are a magnet for anyone who loves dramatic scenery. I live close to the Cotswolds Hills and have done quite a lot of walking around there, recently, following some of the lovely rivers. Hill walking on the Malvern’s is a challenge but worth the effort. I try not to let Parkinson’s get me down and take every opportunity to get out with my camera and film, I hope you enjoy watching. P.W.

Good morning Ron and, as ever, than you for today's video. Yet again a lovely country station which recalls the past so splendidly. The thing that stood out for me though was the couple of very brief glimpses we had looking through the entrance to the station where you could see the train in the platform beyond. As a kid our local station had this feature which looked onto the bay platform. So, when my parents took me out for a trip on the railway, usually Sunday afternoons, I remember always hoping that the train would be there at the platform in the bay on the other side of this magical tunnel past the booking office leading to another world and feeling it was waiting just for me. It was quite a disappointment if the train hadn't arrived at the time to start our journey, but the disappointment soon waned once the train arrived and we hopped on to start our leisurely trip through the beautiful countryside. It's amazing how tiny details like this bring back so many memories and I wouldn't have given a thought these days but for seeing that wonderful glimpse into the past in today's video.
Many thanks Ron, have a great week and best wishes to you, Pauline and all the PW family. Trev.

Quite a few years ago, on one of my last visits "home" to the UK, I visited Bridgnorth with my son. It's a very interesting place, split as it is into High Town and Low Town, with the two connected by many, many steps or for the lazy (me included) the Cliff Railway. Certainly a place worth visiting, and the Severn Valley Railway would be a great way to get there.

Marvellous atmosphere of a busy station - though looking over the green fields at the rear, you would not think you were a short distance from the centre of the wonderful old town of Bridgnorth. The station buildings are in keeping with their surroundings, and like the rolling stock, beautifully preserved without being over-manicured. I always think it was a tragedy that the restoration northwards towards Shrewsbury was not pursued at a time when it still seemed possible. Today, that seems very remote - although I understand, there are plans to reopen a section of line in the Ironbridge Gorge area. Great video. Thank you.

Ron, another fascinating video. All the sidings for different things, storage, parcels, goods, repair workshops. The railway is far busier than you usually see on a model. I must make note of that. Thanks again. Simon

@@ParkinsonsWalks I am at work today. Which means I'm not busy! 612 days to go and I'm winding down already. Lawn mowing later and then I really will be busy round the garden. It grows far too fast or I'm getting old. One of the two.

Good Morning Ron - greetings from Poland
Another lovely video. A stunning building as you said. Quite different atmosphere from the other stations we've visited on this line. A real terminus with comings and goings of trains and people
I was very impressed with the flower arrangements at the station - very beautiful and colourful

Good morning Ron. Another great video in your SVR series. You are like me, in as much that we prefer to be watching from the track side or platforms. It's all very well travelling on the railway, but I prefer to see the trains themselves and generally give a donation or buy my lunch when I go visiting a heritage line..
The station was beautifully built, with the crafted stone. Very attractive indeed. I think we all like to watch the loco running around It's train. That was all part of a branch line terminus.
You are very lucky living where you do. Can't be too far from the SVR, so never too far away from the good things in life.

Afternoon Ron, What a lovely station complete with it's own pub!!
I enjoyed seeing the tunnel for the rods and cables exiting the signal box it's not something that you often see. Great observation on the water tower, I suppose mains water would slowly fill it. 7714 looked very shiny!! Kidderminster next?
It's boiling down here. No adventures this week but last weekend we did venture out to see some of the annual festival of swing, a Welsh band and a German band, great atmosphere and being based right by the river a lovely cooling breeze, it was free entry too ..... don't tell James!
Have a great weekend, all the best!!

Good afternoon Ron, you are unintentionally making me feel old, cruelly and deliberately showing me all the relics I bought new in my youth. The showing and calculated filming of dripping water doesn’t help either when one has a weak bladder, I was up and down the stairs like a yoyo. Even the wheel tappers and shunters club refused my application stating I was too old and would get too excited if they made me a member. Apart from that it was an excellent piece of filming although it only just passed the censorship board for anybody over 70.

Good morning Ron. Just had my Friday morning treat and I loved the trip around the beautifully kept BRIDGENORTH station. How do they do it? Who wouldn’t want to live in that house overlooking the engine shed? Really nice to see it from someone else’s perspective. I never managed to get in the signal box there for a look unfortunately but it still must be pretty complicated with 4/5 lines to deal with. All the manoeuvring to get the engines from the front to return to Kidderminster! It makes my mind boggle. I don’t think there is room anywhere for a turntable like Minehead’s but someone tell me I’m wrong. See you next time!

    Hi Ron,
Sorry I couldn't make it yesterday for your publication day.
Thank you for showing us around Bridgnorth - probably the station on the SVR that I am least familiar with. Bridgnorth though is a wonderful town in its own right. Another Severnside wonder.
There were lots of detail in this that you picked out which I missed.
Splendid video - you covered the station very well. It is steeped in atmosphere, and it is yet so different to other stations on this wonderful heritage railway.
Great work - and thank you!
Hope you have a good weekend and week.
    Take care,
    Paul

I am curious about that suspension bridge and the general placement of the railroad up on a "ledge" overlooking the town area below. Hard to draw a customer base all the way up there during normal use by the GWR years ago, but it appears to have been a fairly substantial station and I am guessing, it always had workshops up there? Overall, just an odd placement of the entire facility.

Hi Charles, hope everything is ok over there in the states. If you study the railway maps over here, the railways usually built the stations where it suited them, rather than the customers. Take care. Ron

Hi Ron, Sumac here. My goodness, that was an annoying dog. You wouldn't catch me doing that in one of your videos. James has been a bit preoccupied trying to be a good brother to his sister, who is resting up at home now. He says he'll be happy to get back to work in September and take it easy again...not sure I understand. I'll tell you Ron, it's been hot here. If I had an opposable thumb, I'd turn on the A/C, honestly, it doesn't make sense, but then Im just a dog. Goodness, the paint work on that steam locomotive was perfect. I wonder if the original finish was that good. James is still trying to piece together those parts of the signal tower he hauled home. He's been looking for an arc-welder (one on sale, of course) and watching "how to" videos on RUclips. I tell you, it's quite amusing to watch him sometimes. Anyway, as long as I get my ball play, I'm happy. Take care Ron, see you...gee...TOMORROW...I have been a bad dog at checking in! Your friend, Sumac.

Hi Sumac, James is good looking after his sister, haven't spoken to mine in a while. James of course gets a mention in this week Vlog, not sure if he will recognize himself from the description but you will. If James gets that structure upright, I would give it a wide berth if I were you. Take care. Ron
