As someone with ADHD who has to also be aware of my impulsive/dopamine spending, I started getting more financially savvy towards the end of last year... in an unsurprising turn of events, personal finance is now my newest hyperfixation 😂
THIS. I said to my boyfriend this morning that I'm trying to switch my brain from seeing impulse spending as a dopamine hit, to seeing the saving as a dopamine hit instead. Like WOO I SAVED £5 BY NOT GETTING THAT COFFEE WOO 🤣
We’ve been doing something similar for the last few years we call it Joyless January ! We set a low daily budget for basics and keep a daily diary. Good luck with your no spend month
For the last few years I’ve done a 100 day no buy, I still have my little blips 😬 but it sets me back on track. This year I’m going to work on carrying on the good habits through the rest of the year and not just mindlessly spend 🤞
I absolutely want to get involved in another no spend, I have done a few 2 month stints and allowed myself a treat purchase in month 3. It makes the time pass so much easier because you have something to look forward to at the end xx
Speaking as someone from an older generation alarm bells ring when you said you don’t pay off your credit card. I’d make that a priority unless you’re on 0%. Look at a good current account that has an online savings account that pays a good interest rate then you can transfer between them both. Chase have a good one and first direct did too. Xxx ps I log on every morning to check my accounts!! X
You're so sweet, thank you for this!! Oh don't worry, I am paying it off haha! I just haven't paid it ALL off, I pay it monthly and add extra onto it when I can :) xx
I think I’m going to try a no spend month in January too. I’ve done it once before and was shocked at how much money I had in my bank account when the month was over lol the last few months of the year, I’ve been spending like a mad woman and my savings has dwindled so it’s time I cooled down and got my savings back up.
Thanks for your video , literally feel same , stop spending for bit and get my savings up . I find I go low key in January so perfect time to save. I literally after watching put some money into my savings account
Can so relate last year i only bought essentials and sold lots i don't wear or use too this year all I'm buying again is essential pieces to replace worn out ones and buy my new car beside bills and food thats it for me 👏😂🤞💖
I have to be savvy with money because im on a low income luckily im doing shared ownership on my house! Also watching Charlotte Rebecca is a good inspiration!
I also 100% have ADHD and sometimes I feel like I need to make a purchase, even just a fiver on Vinted, to get a little dopamine boost because I lack it MASSIVELY. In the last few days I've started taking L-Tyrosine which is a vitamin but it's apparently meant to give you more dopamine, I did read it can take a good few weeks of taking it to feel any difference though so I'm going to make sure to be consistent with taking it, even if I feel as though it's not working! Also did you have to go to the doctors to get start your ADHD diagnosis process? I'd so much rather do it all online but seems extremely pricy that way!
Any medication is worth trying for a couple of months before you decide whether it works, as they take a while! I've not been officially diagnosed but my therapist has confirmed it and is pushing me up the NHS assessment waitlist - I refuse to pay to do it privately lol x
@@Jessmsheppardhow did you cope with doing a no spend month I want to turn my money around. I’m usually good at savings just been a bit ruthless in the last few months x
Best recommendation about stock investments is to invest in an index fund instead of individual company stocks as they perform better and less risk (since not all eggs will be in one basket). Look into it. Good luck!
There is a pre-filmed one on Thursday but other than that, the styling videos etc will be continuing but no haul until Feb at the earliest. I might do a 'come shop with me' and show whats in the shops though for anyone who is interested! ✨

Thats such a good name hahah, I'm enjoying it so far! x

Love that! 100 days no buy is such a good amount of time x
Well done Jess with the no spend January. Happy new year.
We'll save the congratulations til the end of the month haha! xx

Sounds like a great way to look at it! I’m doing it to save for a future home and build up a solid emergency fund again as it got wiped in lockdowns x

It's such a good idea, I've watched so many videos on 'no buy' and 'low buy' and it seems hard but worth it for sure!! xx
This was me too!
Doing the same, though I will try to move it into the next months as well. So happy i'm not alone, it will make it a lot easier 😅
I'm going to see how it goes and maybe do the same!
You have a great wise decision to make to manage your own finances to maintain saving up your money 💰 Jess. HAPPY NEW YEAR 🕛🥳🎊🎉 by the way princess 👑.
Happy new year:)

Yaaaay, we love the saving gal era! I've already put a little bit away after successfully avoiding impulsive spending a couple of times! xx
Can so relate last year i only bought essentials and sold lots i don't wear or use too this year all I'm buying again is essential pieces to replace worn out ones and buy my new car beside bills and food thats it for me 👏😂🤞💖
I'm on a 'sell lots and make money to save' again this year too. The clutter needs to go haha
I have to be savvy with money because im on a low income luckily im doing shared ownership on my house! Also watching Charlotte Rebecca is a good inspiration!
Shared ownership is such a good scheme! A few of my friends do it too xx
Im cutting out all my shopping for toiletries during lent. Food only ! Im using up all those things i already have.
But if its an emergency, i could cheat and use my boots or tesco points. 😂 Technically not spending, as i dont want to fail ! 😢
Don’t think of it as failing, because you’re still saving money by even doing the challenge and changing your mindset! Food is an essential xx
Definitely doing this though I bought a lipstick earlier before I decided!! Ha ha. CO detectors aren’t luxuries either right?!
Hahah it was BEFORE the decision so its fine!

Ooo I’ve actually heard about these, will be looking into 👀
You have done Haul videos in the past, so no Hauls in January?
There is a pre-filmed one on Thursday but other than that, the styling videos etc will be continuing but no haul until Feb at the earliest. I might do a 'come shop with me' and show whats in the shops though for anyone who is interested! ✨
