    Karakas, Channel, and Fast Bond going that late is certainly unusual! A pretty wild draft.

      Channel is pretty bad so with a top 8 you'd expect it that late but those other cards yea pretty late. Altough for fastbond with reid having waste strip it'd be only good for a draw7 drafter that can splash green or as a hate draft.

    @19:23 Surprised to see Reid not even consider Enlightened Tutor. This is a combo deck, and it grabs all sorts of missing combo pieces (e.g. Crucible, Fastbond, Dryad, Zuran Orb, or even Skullclamp or Skysovereign if the rest are already spent).

      @@DoomDG Why is the card bad? It is restricted and a staple in cEDH and Vintage is it not? Yes you end up down a card, but you can get Skullclamp if that is an issue.
      Not considering it only because it usually sucks in cube seems too narrow of a mindset. This deck has a combo with all pieces being fetchable and also 3 other win the game combos (Dryad+Valakut, Strip Effect+Crucible).
      Given the games it probably didn't matter since the only loss wouldn't be likely prevented by it, but it still seems like the correct card for the deck. Certainly better then firebolt.

    I found the lands decks can be really hard to finish the combos in a timely fashion. I had fastbond, zuran orb, and crucible in a draft but timed out because it took too long to execute the combo and click through everything. If you have to execute the combo once, and then have a grindy game 2, you can be really hard pressed to execute in game 3. I really with mtgo had a way to detect loops in play and offer to execute them “x” times to speed up things.
    Compared to something like led, brainfreeze, and breach you only need to cast led 4-5 times to get there and the combo takes maybe 1 minute to execute.

    • @brianh5844
      @brianh5844 9 месяцев назад +1

      His best defense was a fast land destruction or infinite mana draw, which I think means he certainly should have mulled that last game. I had the same critique of his play in the last top 8 where he drafted lands. You have to be willing to mulligan for your broken cards because the fair draws just won't cut it in most matchups and lands otherwise lacks disruptive elements. For lands, that's strip mine, wasteland, and fastbond. I actually think enlightened tutor was worth considering as well just to have more copies of fastbond and crucible in the deck.

    I have an idea for a card (I don't know if this is made) . The idea is: Instant card 1B You can add one word to any card in your deck / library / graveyard / exile. Would that be too OP of a card ? There can be a limit to which words you can add. Like you can't say "ninety". Those words could be stuff like (maybe you draft from a spellbook ?) "whenever", "If" etc. It could be game breaking maybe I don't know but It could be fun ! :D

    I find it very interesting that Reid and LSV are in lock step in power evaluations for virtually everything EXCEPT Treachery. Reid loves the card whereas LSV has no respect for it. I feel like that speaks to their tendencies as, from what I have seen, LSV tends to undervalue the fair cards and Reid tends to not greed for broken strategies.

    • @Lollerpwn1337
      @Lollerpwn1337 9 месяцев назад

      I think reid plays a lot less vintage. If LSV a player that loves combo doesn't like treatchery that should tell you all you need to know. (card is not good) I think reid greeded quite a bit here anyway not taking grazer, tribe scout which are much better picks than what he took for a lands deck with cradle and a million 3s tribe scout is mostly just better explore.

    • @franciscorendon6955
      @franciscorendon6955 9 месяцев назад

      @@Lollerpwn1337 I definitely don’t think treachery is horrible, as with one piece of acceleration it lets you spend 9 mana on turn 4, which can put you so far ahead on board sometimes you just win from there. I think LSV’s evaluation is that for every time treachery gives you massive tempo there will be two games where its a 5-cost card that either doesn’t do anything or barely does anything, which is partially dependent on what your opponents are doing.
      Yes in hindsight Reid had some small pick errors but the R2 opponent’s draws were just more powerful, it was his lack of disruption that ended up being the biggest issue.

    • @Lollerpwn1337
      @Lollerpwn1337 9 месяцев назад

      Yes you can play a 5 mana spell thats free if your opponent doesnt have interaction, or they might just fizzle it or counter it. If it gets blown out like that its often game losing. There might also not be a good target, its also easily removed. But it is good if you get it and untapping is good so say a hightide or an academy or cradle deck. Still the decks that would want treachery usually don't want yet another expensive high variance card.

      It's not even that great if you don't take advantage of channel otherwise. I LOVE channel and draft it a lot, but to get a natural combo on turn 2 is actually very rare and if you draw it later you will often not have enough life to cast it anyway or annihilator isn't enough to win at that point if you're being pressured. It's fun and some decks are great for it, but it shouldn't be thought of as this unbeatable combo because both pieces are often dead cards on their own.
