Omg, Ian Kirkpatrick commented on the video, I can't believe itttttt. Since uploaded your streams, i have figured out that there are so many people who are really interested in the way you produce music, it's interesting and professional!!!
@@iankirkpatrick hey Ian! I wanted to say that I really love what your doing and who you are. You seem like a wonderful person. Thank you for sharing this type of content with us, I have benefited massively from watching you work. Seriously man thank you so much 🙏

@@M3333C great question man. Like he’s the god but I assume he moves quickly overall and doesn’t bother cleaning stuff up not cuz he can’t but he’d rather give the grunt work to another creator
Interesting to see this after I did my own recreation/breakdown video of Don't Start Now on my channel a few months ago. Nice to know I got a few things right.
Hey Ian Awesome breakdown - absolutely killer production. What kind of bass did you use in the verses? Sounds similar to an electric bass guitar, but without the harsh attack sound.
Damn I love the bass on this track, can't believe its NI MM Scarbass + sine wave. Anyone can tell if its the amped version? To me it sounds like the standard bass.
Mr. Kirkpatrick for the disco or 'Don't Start Now' song style, what drum (Kick , Snare , Clap ) sample pack should I use and what bass guitar VST would you recommend? Thank you
You can go to Splice to download Oliver's Disco Samples. They should be as good as the song. In terms of the Bass, in this song Ian Kirkpatrick uses two layers: Scarbee Bass and a sine bass. Hope you're doing well!
Nice video. I have a question. I'm very new to producing and mixing music. Right now I'm using my PC with no audio interface because I don’t need to record anything. I use StudioOne with ASIO driver. So my question is, Is it ok to mix with ASIO or I need a audio interface? Is there any sound quality difference? I mean If I use an audio interface, then my mixing will sound better than "direct pc to headphone output" quality?
Yes but it depends also on which headphones you use. With an Audio Interface, you surely have a better pre-amp for your headphones and the possibility to connect a pair of studio monitor (that, for me, it's better for mixing, with headphones you can't have a true stereo image and in modern productions it's not a good thing). But I said that depends also on the headphones' impedance. For a standard 32ohm a better pre-amp it's pretty much useless, because you will stay at the lower level and too much volume can destroy tour ear and your headphones, with a 64+ohm then a Better pre-amp will give you enough volume and get a much linear response to all frequencies. Alternatively you can buy a little pre-amp with the USB Interface.
Hey man’ it’s been 11months but still you shouldn’t even be thinking about mixing much except for Eqing compressing and panning, it’s a horrible habit to pickup early, focusing too much on the minutiae of mixing will only hurt the producing part. Even Ian don’t do much mixing, he leaves it to Josh, his bus and master chains are minimal at best. Good production beats all, taste is primordial, leave the mixing to mixers or vice versa the production to producers if you want to be a mixing engineer.
in a way, yes... if you use a quality interface you will hear the audio in higher resolution and in greater detail... which helps with making better mixing decisions... but it wont make your mixing any better... you still need to be a good mixer.. you can find cheap and decent interfaces these days i think if you want to seriously start producing or mixing you should at least save up and get a budget interface to start with like a focusrite
cubase is cool. But too many issues with 3rd party vst. Reaper is a pain to learn and doesn't look as cool, but it simply is rock solid. Protools also seems rock solid. Cubase is so annoying lol I thought it just gave me shit ... lol - I really enjoyed this video :) great video though :)

I think this Song was named "Don't Start Now" because Ian's Projects never loaded and he couldn't start.
Him forgetting to drink his coffee and eat are the most relatable parts about his producing
26:10 is when the track breakdown starts
Well, his Cubase crashed, so more like 34:40

What’s the string library he is using
So Ian is basically the Sive of Dua Lipa.
is the bounce / demo getting cut out because of copyright on youtube? that sucksss
The kick is too amazing to be called "just a fucking sample in kontakt" kkkkkkk
what I love the most is that he is mad a biscuit ..... never change ... hahahah
Omg. I just can’t.

Have you watched throughout the video? Ian has showed it in the video: He uses two layers for the bass: Scarbee bass and a sine bass.
It sounded like someone was beatboxing in the end there sometimes
He needs to do way more songs with Dua come onnnnn
He made "New Rules"
someone how knows what kontakt library he used for the kick sample?
Do you perhaps have the .fbx file for that dance moves? =)
Thanks for sharing!! Where can I get the samples and presets?
You can go to Splice to download them, Ian Kirkpatrick usually uses Splice samples in his tracks
Could u please do same with Dua Lipa PHYSICAL? 🥺 i can give u link to stems u kno...
That string sounds a lot like that Bourne Identity song by Moby
Damn I love the bass on this track, can't believe its NI MM Scarbass + sine wave. Anyone can tell if its the amped version? To me it sounds like the standard bass.
Just the DI version. Amped is a wet signal library. I would think most producers want it dry and then they add their own effects after MIDI input
Fucking genius !
Thanks!! 44:13
he made 4 stereo out, how can he print or final export that in single final track??? hehe
Please.... where did you get that cat walking your screen?
What I learned today:
I'm not the only producer whose DAW just quits on them periodically lol
Big Z tutorial brought me here. great song, i actually thought it was calvin harris when i heard it on Radio.
“Calvin Harris - Flashback” and “don’t start now” are extremely similar
Big Z tuts are dope too, pure gold too
