See there is only one piece of the puzzle that doesn't make sense to me every time I've heard this story it doesn't make sense to me that the government came in caused all that devastation which cost a lot of money by the way and a lot of resources to just stop out of nowhere because of "toxic chemicals " that supposedly affected their own people very badly and if thats the case then why wouldn't they have boarded up the entire town and be considered a hazardous area not to mention tell nobody got an answer to why they had to leave in the first place and when they did it would always be a different answer or none at all not to mention these supposed to toxic chemicals we're never mentioned by the townspeople nor were they affected by it

When RUclips actually recommends me something I like. Very interesting! I actually visited Boston Mills a few weeks ago, having heard of “Helltown” from a different RUclips video describing it at this abandoned town with all sorts of satanic activity. It was a pleasant surprise to see how nice the area has become though, and asking the park rangers about the Helltown history will get you all sorts of annoyed looks (that’s what happened to me anyway). It’s really cool hearing this story and it’s symbolism. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the excellent comment Ray! Most of the oddities and boarded up houses have been removed and the valley inhabitants are very focused on progressing their beautiful location forward and forgetting the past. I certainly appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! Hope to see you here again!

I grew up in the valley and I remember those times. My dad's friend went to prison when he refused to leave his property by barricading himself in his home. I still live here and this valley still reverberates with the emotions from that time. Question for you - have you come across any documentation of a train derailment on what's now the Cuyahoga Valley Line near the boundary of Independence and Valley View where the current visitor center is located maybe in the late 60's? Great video.
Thanks for all this info H Sylvester! I appreciate the comment! What a tragic time for everyone who lived thru that hell. I haven’t seen documentation on the train derailment. I will certainly look into it. Thanks for the heads up. And thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
@@CuriousHistoryYT it may have been earlier 60's I was really young. The story is that after very heavy rain the embankment gave way - train derailed and engineer couldn't be rescued from the mud. he likely just lives in ohio lol. its a strange place. i grew up in scioto county on a big hill. there was one spot i wasnt allowed to go and the reasons always changed. well fast forward close to 40 years and where i was told not to play was an impact zone of something. i found it on google earth a while back showing my daughter where i came from so shed appreciate her situation more. that impact is most likely a meteor since i used to see them often. if youre into these kinds of stories you know about impact sites. there were things on that hill. we saw alot of ufo's and my mother and i got followed(chased really) by one. i felt it before i saw it. no clue about my mom but she knew something wasnt right and we both panicked and went to leave. when we opened that door and saw this thing we almost hit a panic state. it followed us for around 20 min then gone. on a side note ive seen a train with a small crane arm dropping barrels of toxic waste into the scioto/ohio river. outside lucasville ohio. i can still show you where and ive lived in nc since 85. thanks to films like chud it had me worried lol.
when i say things on that hill i meant beings. it was no secret to us that lived there. a lit up cigar shaped ufo used to fly over the sleepy village of otway nightly.

I used to live in Streetsboro just up the road from there. And I used to drive through at least 3 or 4 times a week. Other than the train depot I didn't realize how interesting that area was. I may have to go back and visit now. Thanks.
Just found this channel, enjoy the Ohio ghost stories, I went to Memorial elementary school in Cleveland which was a replacement for the Collingwood school which caught fire in the early 1900s and many kids perished. Many instances of paranormal when I attended memorial in the 1960s. Good channel with good stories! Thanks! J.Kelley
Thanks John. I have a friend who did a video at the memorial. Such a sad tale of what happened there. I’m not surprised there is paranormal activity. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Very well done, sir! I am considering doing something like this with some of the many local legends where I am. Something about these kinds of stories always excites me.
What a wonderful story! And you are great at telling it. Hope to hear you tell many more stories in the future. This is something I miss from my childhood. Thank you very much. Shirl K - Texas
I had the pleasure of visiting Peninsula a few years ago, and really enjoyed it. I did not know about its dark” history of how some of the local citizens were treated and lost their homes. I want to come back and visit and explore more of the CV. Your story of the history was very interesting. Thanks for posting!
What a sad story. I remember some of this story in the newspapers (yes, ink and paper, hot off the presses), but, I was not familiar with the back story. I am new to your vids, but, am hooked! Thank you for the work that went into the research, and story development.
Coming from Ohio, I was so intrigued to watch this, and another video you head out on Helltown. I had never heard of it before, and it’s legends are so intriguing. Thank you for a great story, and for sharing history, that needs to be remembered!
@10:32 it's quite cool to see you standing in front of the building that I drive by regularly on my way to work. Very early in the mornings, sometimes there is a very strong smell of something dead. Lots of deer in that area so it could be a dead deer but it still un-nerving due to the history of Peninsula. My kids went to what was the intermediate school in Peninsula. The town does have a creepy vibe.
One might give this story a different, more traditional fairytale meaning. The old woman spent long years helping the people with their ailments and their troubles, but when she needed their help and protection, they, although many and stronger than Big Sam, watched their innocent old healer be abused and murdered, and betrayed her by being to cowardly to help her against the bully. Thus, they loaded a collective guilt upon themselves and their town. And when a lightning, the fiery force of nature, finally freed the old woman, she let a bully from far away come and teach those "nice people" what it means to be a helpless victim... What goes around, comes around. Just another interpretation. 🙂
Love it! It’s often hard to say what’s true in these old tales and what’s not, however the fun in it is how the listener feels when the story is told. Personally I believe a lot of truth is in these old tales and it leaves me saddened for those who had to endure the hardships. Like how we hear of the Salem witch trials. If it holds truth that it actually happened, I cannot believe that all who died and were persecuted, were in fact wicked, just like this story. Thank you for sharing.
Since there was no mention of him talking to anyone in his household when he awoke from his nightmare, nor witness to his chat with the goat prior to his death, I do not see this as 'a part of history' as some have commented to that effect, but rather simply a good fantasy story. Nice job.
What an interesting story. I have subscribed to your channel. So glad I came across it. I love history like this. I have a great passion for cemeteries.
OMG I loved the story of WITCH OF HELLTOWN. I'm so glad I stumbled upon your vlog I will definitely sign up . One question though are your stories mainly centered in Ohio it doesn't matter though. Thank you for a most interesting vlog.
Thank you so much for this Sandra and welcome! Yes we are mainly centered in Ohio for now but are looking forward to researching other areas of the world. Thanks for watching and commenting!
That was a great story and a great point of view of the names and meanings in the story and what they represented. Awesome breakdown and glad you shared not just the story but the after thoughts!!!!
I'm so glad that you told the story about the poor residents of the area who had their homes, businesses and family farms taken from them. I believe that it is their pain that has birthed all the sad stories and legends. If anyone is interested, there is an excellent Frontline documentary from 1983 available on RUclips about the forming of the CVNP. It's called For the Good of All. Just be prepared - it is heartbreaking.
Thank you, for sharing this story. I have never heard about this sad and heartbreaking event. I appreciate your thoroughness and attention to important details, that you put into the presentation.
Out of all the Ohio witch stories and Helltown stories I've heard, I'd never heard the Helltown witch story before. It sure sounds like the perfect allegory to me. I remember in the early 2000s the whole "Helltown" thing was really popular and everyone wanted to go there at night to catch a glimpse of some ghosts and Satanists. I think the legends got really out of hand and people forgot where the Helltown name really came from. The CVNP has certainly been a great gift to the state and the country, but you can't help but wonder if the government could've handled things differently. On another note, there are probably so many stories about Peninsula and Boston Township that you could do a whole series on it. I think few of them have any historical merit, but they're all entertaining nonetheless.
Helltown isn’t what it used to be that’s for sure Space Ace. So much of it has been removed. You’re absolutely right about the stories in that area. Just when I think I’m done reading everything there is to read about that place, something new pops up. It’s crazy! Thanks again for your continued support of the channel. I really do appreciate it!

I live right up the street from helltown lol. I live up on the hill from Boston mills ski resort. I've been to helltown three times. Just discovering all of these stories now. The wendigo stories are interesting to me since I've always heard crazy unnatural screams at night for years! I'm scared that what I'm hearing all the time is a wendigo!
@@CuriousHistoryYT I'm already freaked out enough my man please don't say stuff like that. I'm looking more into why helltown was seized exactly. I'm starting to believe it was a military mission gone wrong. I don't think there was a "chemical spill" but i think it has to do something with "IT" What do you know about "it"
Great story telling sir! It was very captivating. As you clarified at the end this is most likely a story. People tried of witchcraft are not laid to rest in cemetery's because they are on godly in the time. I very much enjoyed the video though
Thank you for this Cori! I was actually shocked at how many people took the witch story literally. Especially when I call it a legend 4 times within the first minute of the video! he likely just lives in ohio lol. its a strange place. i grew up in scioto county on a big hill. there was one spot i wasnt allowed to go and the reasons always changed. well fast forward close to 40 years and where i was told not to play was an impact zone of something. i found it on google earth a while back showing my daughter where i came from so shed appreciate her situation more. that impact is most likely a meteor since i used to see them often. if youre into these kinds of stories you know about impact sites. there were things on that hill. we saw alot of ufo's and my mother and i got followed(chased really) by one. i felt it before i saw it. no clue about my mom but she knew something wasnt right and we both panicked and went to leave. when we opened that door and saw this thing we almost hit a panic state. it followed us for around 20 min then gone. on a side note ive seen a train with a small crane arm dropping barrels of toxic waste into the scioto/ohio river. outside lucasville ohio. i can still show you where and ive lived in nc since 85. thanks to films like chud it had me worried lol.
when i say things on that hill i meant beings. it was no secret to us that lived there. a lit up cigar shaped ufo used to fly over the sleepy village of otway nightly.
I just wanted to say you do a really good job and letting the viewers know stuff like this it's very interesting I love history very much I soak it up like a sponge and it's so interesting for you to do this so thank you very much and God bless you and keep up the good work 😊

Love to see you continue into Rogue's Hollow and Canal Fulton Legends. Close to home everywhere you go.
Rogues Hollow is on the list John. Gathering info now. Trying to figure out when the best time to visit is. Now? Fall?
Any suggestions?
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@CuriousHistoryYT I'd say fall to get the true vibe. Beginning of October so it isn't as cold?
Fall it is then.
Thanks for the help!
I used to live in Streetsboro just up the road from there. And I used to drive through at least 3 or 4 times a week. Other than the train depot I didn't realize how interesting that area was. I may have to go back and visit now. Thanks.
You’re welcome Uncle Sticky.
Thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate it!

I had the pleasure of visiting Peninsula a few years ago, and really enjoyed it. I did not know about its dark” history of how some of the local citizens were treated and lost their homes. I want to come back and visit and explore more of the CV.
Your story of the history was very interesting. Thanks for posting!

New to your channel, love to hear a good story and a bit of history. Hello from your Canadian neighbour.

What a sad story. I remember some of this story in the newspapers (yes, ink and paper, hot off the presses), but, I was not familiar with the back story. I am new to your vids, but, am hooked! Thank you for the work that went into the research, and story development.
Thank you for the kind words Victoria! I appreciate it!
I look forward to seeing you here again! 😊
Coming from Ohio, I was so intrigued to watch this, and another video you head out on Helltown. I had never heard of it before, and it’s legends are so intriguing. Thank you for a great story, and for sharing history, that needs to be remembered!
Thank you Lisa!
Another great story. Reminds me of Dogtown in Massachusetts. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you MrDoeboy. I appreciate you watching and commenting. I must get out to Massachusetts sometime. Your comments are inspiring!
@@CuriousHistoryYT just the Salem history is worth the trip.
@@MrDoeboy356 I would imagine so. October in Salem Mass sounds fantastic!
@@CuriousHistoryYT if you get a minute look up the witch of dogtown. And the Babson boulders.
Will do! Thanks!
Great story and history! I want to hear the rest of the stories! Thank you.
Thank you Barb! I appreciate the kind words!

I'm glad I found your RUclips channel, your a great story teller. Thxs for a clear story of the witch of helltown. Looking forward to more.
Thank YOU for watching and commenting Scott! I really appreciate your support! 😊😊
What a great spin on the tale Gaia! Love it! Very creative!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I agree.
I like your method of historic story telling. I was mesmerized and hung on every word. Well done.
So nice of you to say! Thank you! 😊
You know the part that pissed me off..everyone just watched and were too scared to do anything to help the woman.
Me too Greg. 😡
This is good story telling real old folklore rich in history thank you sir i hope you will keep this stories alive specially on this dire times.
Thanks for this EL GATO! I appreciate the kind words!

Thank you for watching and commenting Southern! I appreciate it!
Thank you for sharing this story. It's the first time I have heard of this piece of history. About the witch of Hell Town.
Since there was no mention of him talking to anyone in his household when he awoke from his nightmare, nor witness to his chat with the goat prior to his death, I do not see this as 'a part of history' as some have commented to that effect, but rather simply a good fantasy story. Nice job.
your videos are great, ur energy it gives such great nostalgia of older shows that would tell ghost stories but it's also uniquely your own
Thank you! And thanks for watching!

Thanks for this Dawn! I appreciate the support!!
Thanks for sharing this katwil89.

That’s super kind of you to say Kim! Thank you so much! 😊
Thrilled for once at RUclips's recommendation! You are a master storyteller.

I have just begun hearing some of the stories of “Helltown” despite having lived 25 min away for 40 years! I’m planning on going on some walks in the valley it appears. Looking for suggestions and I hope your page gives some Guidence.
I was like 667 on this video. 😂👍
There are so many fantastic places to visit in the valley Fyodor. And so much history. I would suggest starting in Peninsula. Great town with plenty of well maintained trails.
Any of the lock trailheads would do well for you too.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Josh! You know you’re NOT supposed to say its name right!?!
There are no screams! You don’t hear anything!
@@CuriousHistoryYT I'm already freaked out enough my man please don't say stuff like that. I'm looking more into why helltown was seized exactly. I'm starting to believe it was a military mission gone wrong. I don't think there was a "chemical spill" but i think it has to do something with "IT"
What do you know about "it"
@@CuriousHistoryYT THE W CULT! I JUST FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENED! I NEED TO GET OUT OF THIS TOWN! IT'S SURROUNDED BY EVIL!
