A regular car polish will do wonders for the plastic rear window (polish both sides but try not to put too much pressure on the plastic unless it is supported by something underneath). Also, I believe Meguiar's actually makes a polish specifically for plastic rear windows for convertibles. I love Meguiar's products.
BTW, I love the color and I actually like Z3s quite a bit more than their replacement the Z4. I just think they are a much nicer and much more interesting-looking car. I personally would have preferred one with a manual transmission however your reasoning for the automatic made sense.

One thing I do with baskets in the trunk is apply the Velcro tape to the bottom to keep it from moving around . You just tape on the hook half of the tape and it works great by hooking onto the carpet itself .
The biggest thing with the USB cell phone chargers is that battery drain isn't an issue if they're on a switched outlet. You'll have to consult the owner's manual to find out or leave your phone plugged in, open and close the door, and wait about 10-15 minutes (some stay on with a delay).
Additionally, you need to make sure that they have good quality circuitry (a lot of the cheap ones can damage your phone or devices plugged into them); popular doesn't mean good.
I have one 97 Z3 for 25 years. So much fun to drive. BUT! Expect the same problems. It will leak rain water from the Top front. Both sides, like all over your lap. Very hard to fix. I don't drive anymore when it rains. The door handle both sides will yank off at some point soon. Old plastic won't hold. I put screws to hold in place, no glue works. To expensive to Replace. Fading and discolor back window, all z3 cars does that. You will never get clean to see through. If your lucky, it will have a zipper around to replace. If not, well you may have to replace to whole top. It's a real pain in the tail. I pulled out the window and found a new piece of plastic and Glued it in place. It turned out nice and not leaking. The top near the side window, the rubber seal always has a gap that can never close up and water just pours inside. Again, No driving in the rain. Plastic breaks all over, just be gentle all the time. Find another same car for parts. Good luck.
My girlfriend who died from breast cancer had a Z-3, greenish gold, with a light tan top. It had a stiff [ bumpy] ride like my Smart Car.

I had a Z3 with a 2.8 litre 6 cylinder engine, and I always found it too soft, so fitted the AC Schnitzer suspension.
My 96 z3 even with new BILSTEIN schocks is not too smooth. However my 2000 with the 6 cylinder is much smoother with older BILSTEIN

Z3 owner here - Yours has the sagging glovebox issue, they make kits to fix that, easy fix. If the top is original the rear window zips out (it has no zipper tongue, has to be manually separated) so it could be replaced easily. Also be VERY VERY nice to those interior door handles! They are known to break, are no longer available, and NOS ones are fetching $800+

I bought driver’s side in 2015 for about $125. Poor design with plastic or door card anchor. Not like my 1978 Mercedes with metal to metal. No plastic
I see that besides the hazy back window, there is a crease. Your vehicle should have a blanket for the rear window. The blanket is OEM and should have come with the car. This will help preclude the crease.

Edit: on the trunk tool tray, it may have been for the tool to retract the sun/moon roof manually on a regular 3 series.

I have a 2002 BMW Z3 2.5i and you will love our Z3 !!
Note I was really into these cars many years ago. They have the dash electronics die regularly. So see if you can get it rewired and fixed up early before it completely fails on you.
These have grown on me, and big pluses for me with this one are the 6 cylinder engine instead of the crappy 4 cylinder that most had over here in the UK. And also it’s pre-2000 and that’s when BMWs were still decent. I’d so much rather have this than a Merc SLK! Also the colour is cool, here they’re invariably silver or black with black interiors.
Congrats - I hope you are going to love this car. I had one several years ago and loved it the only reason I got rid of it - Driver lengths got longer and I could no longer get my golf clubs in the trunk

Cool new car! I like the color combo - I was convinced it was going to be a MX-5 Miata - these are a great choice too and if you're after an automatic this is likely a much better option.
Me, too. Was sure it was going to be a Miata. I did recommend checking out the MR-2, most interesting config of the group. No storage, though. And not sure about AT option, would never consider it. myself.

The red light and round object is glass break microphone they are the factory BMW alarm system you can make the back window clear the best thing I found is called acrylic werks polish

At least you have Car Ninja to help sort out any potential problems that Car Wizard won't touch. Most people's mentality about tires when they sell a car is that they're adamant about not having to spend money on something they'll not own anymore. On the contrary I always put good rated new tires on my cars I sold. Also,on your power outlet,you could have that to switch on with ACC to prevent battery drainage. My car has a fifteen amp fused circuit that switches on with ACC.

Thanks for telling us which cars you were looking at. Tge Solstice is basically the same car as the Sky other than the looks you didn't like.
The last car I had with an aftermarket head unit was an Alpine with the removable faceplate. Some asshole broke into it, grabbed the head unit and then took the faceplate I put in the glove box.
I could care less about the radio. It was all the other damage they did to the car. I just live with whatever stereo that comes with the car now because it's not a theft target. No one takes factory head units no matter how nice they are. They can't get $20 for it at the pawn shop.

Great roadster! Got ours 4 years ago. Battery from 2015 finally died on me last week. Energizer! Good idea to replace the struts in pairs or it will look skewed. Mine is an 01 has a few minor differences. Also speaker in back is ridiculously expensive as well as door handles

Nice Z3 aubergine! This drives like an MX5 with a stage 1 tune, but keep an eye on the rear subframe. It isn't up to the engine's power and has a tendency to break.
I was thinking eggplant as well.
Will post on both channels...I saw this comment about the engine online....with the shop talent...that's a great benefit to keeping this NON TURBO straight 6 going! The comment I saw: "..are bulletproof. You should easily surpass the 200k mile mark without any valves, chain, rods, crank, or seal issues. While the engine and its internals can be beat to death, the supporting engine systems are what are likely to give you problems. "
So this could be quite the find!

I had a 1999 BMW M Roadster. Beautiful car and fun to drive. It had the S52 engine but man, it was hard to smog here in CA. Put a new CARB compliant exhaust system on it to help with emissions and it barely passed. Sadly I decided to let her go.... Pre 2000 BMW's are a challenge for emissions in CA. Also, replace the convertible top Mrs. Wizards Z. Pretty inexpensive and the plastic rear window "glass" will be perfect. Also store it with the top up so the the rear window won't crease and the top stays nice and straight. ENJOY the Purple Beast!
MR2 or Soltice was considered by me but I ended up with a Toyota Celica. Congrats on the Z3 & thanks for the stories!
We just finished a 1400 mile road trip from south Mississippi to Dallas via Houston (The Scenic Route) in our 2008 Sky. It handled the 108 degree heat just fine.

Typically in the BMW's trunk toolkit, the long empty slot is for storage of the European mandated Emergency Roadside Safety Triangle. I've never seen them included in US BMW's toolkits. The grey screwdriver typically has a removable shaft with a phillips head on one end and flathead on the other.

Your bin in the boot os a great idea ,but using the boot space for bigger items will mean that you have to remove rhat vin or have it in the passenger seat ,so see if the Wall store has those collapsing bins that store flat when not in used
The power outlet surely would be on Acc key position for powerand shouldn't run the battery flat ,but if it is powered up all the time ,how about installing a dash mounted on/off switch,obtain a switch from a wrecked BMW so it matches the car ?

The 3rd generation from 2006-2015 has an excellent automatic. And most of them were sold with a retractable hard top.
For the 4th generation, the current generation, the Grand Touring model is available with an automatic.

Permanent grin machine. 98 wasnt in the Takata airbag recall. I question the reliability and safety of my 20yo air bags. I havent seen anyone test old airbags to find out.

Buy a CTEK battery trickle charger for the winter. Though hope you hold onto this for a little longer than a year
The metal circle behind the gear shifter looks like an old aftermarket immobilizer. There is somewhere a matching token which is pressed on the circle to turn it off.

Cooky's Z-3 plastic back window did the same thing.
Only once i bought a car that didnt need tires to be replaced and it was from a car auction lol. Sure the brand was Road Huggers but it lasted a good year before i got my first flat tire

I think the BMW's cigarette lighter is inactive when the ignition is off.
Actually those cars have a separate backup auxiliary battery that the charging ports run off of at least on German cars that's the way they are typically built. I believe American cars are built the same way as well!

My wife wanted onen from the day she first saw one. We finally got one 21 years ago and its still going well now with 190k on it.
The Pontiac solstice isn’t very good looking. But the Saturn sky is an awesome design. Same stuff under the hood with more aggressive look to it.
I don't think the charger would make much of a deal, I leave my Honda for 2 weeks at a time and never have a dead battery and it runs continuously.
...all BMWs have the sockets always on, always pull out everything!
I leave my adapter in for a month bat a time and no problem.

Why cant people clean their cars before they sell them. If i am looking at buying a vehicle and the interior is filthy I walk away. The way I see it is if they can not bother to clean their car then regular maintenance was probable skipped as well.
