Doritos FTW!!! I own 2 13B swapped MX-5's and a 13B powered EXOCET & I haven't found a more fun combination, and trust me, I've tried lol. Ive had a 1.5JZ 94 SC300, a stroked 2.7L 06 WRX and stil have my 1985 4AGZE swapped Corolla GT-S coupe among others, and while the 86 comes close, nothing puts a smile on my face like a rotary powered MX-5. My most powerful one is about 460whp, so I can only imagine how ridiculous Whiddett's feels like lol.
It’s funny I remember when I was younger I’d see mad mike leaving tyre shops etc in his old blue rotary wagon with the number plate FURSTY.. back. Before he drifted.. and was just into rotas.. we all ended up being rotary kids I think in NZ 🤣
Mad Mike is my favorite. 1. because he's a cool dude. 2. I'm a die hard rotary fan. I love most cars, but rotaries are my favorites, I daily an rx8. It's so awesome to see someone go out of their way to use them over other powerplants at the pro drifting level.

I like Mike because I'm a huge FD RX-7 fan. My other fav FD Pro driver is Odi Bakchis. That guy is nuts with his S15! You should def cover him...if you haven't already.
I still remember when I was young I went to the red bull drift shifters event in Auckland, New Zealand with my dad and I remember hearing the rotary screaming coming down the track. It was my first experience with drifting and definitely a good one
love how he uses that clutch and throttle to keep bringing up the RPMs to where the torque is (rotaries have a much different TQ curve to pistons) and keep the big boi turbo spooled. masterful techniques.

There’s not too many situations you use it in drifting but it happens. Sometimes I’ll use it if I’m on handbrake and brakes and want to rev the motor up before dumping the clutch. You’ll see other guys do that too that are in laggy cars and/or really good with keep the revs up

The difference in technique used in drifting. You already mentioned the use of the handbrake and left foot braking. I would love an analysis on that. Great content! Do you agree with the idea that to improve on technique, training with a low powered car can help? I drift a 150hp E36, and the minute I get in a 300 or 400hp car, drifting seems so much easier.

So watching the evolution over 10+ years easy, is something that’s insane. His son has a drift car now too. 12a powered miata.

Where mike and i are from, we drive on the left and our cars are right hand drives. So, when we are driving a manual or stickshift (ive heard a few Americans call it) thats all we use our left foot for, clutch and npthing. Mike is giving an extremely awesome example of, how we drive a manual👍

Every-time I use my wheel i usually do grip racing, so the first time I tried to drift I realized I would literally have to re teach myself how to drive and honestly I gave up I’m not gonna lie
