This is one of the best tutorials I have seen to program the WS. So easy to understand and you have explained it so well. It looks easy and I can do it without watching it again. Great job and thanks for a great tutorial.
Thanks. I just got my wavestate and programming has been a real challenge. I’ve never owned a synth before and feel as though I am in over my head. This is the best video I’ve found on creating a performance from scratch more or less.
The Wavestate is going to become a classic to compete with just a handful of other classic synths. It is fantastic. It is superb. Its architecture is so incredibly well thought out. Yes, you need to understand it to create sounds that you already have in your mind, but even if you're no good at understanding its architecture, there's the Randomize feature. Keep hitting that randomize and you'll harvest unique patches within minutes. Add to this no-brainer approach the fact that new patches can be saved without any bank/slot limitations, and you've got a machine that will keep surprising and enchanting for years to come.
Ahhh, this is perfectly paced, with a good balance between explaining the rather arcane UI and being rewarded with the rather pleasant sonic output. Thanks Ron!
For musicians who love pads this is a no-brainer addition to their gear. I hope that Korg keeps supporting it and that it will get even better. I don't care if they add aftertouch but I want more a 61 key version -- even a 49 key like my Deepmind 12 would be nice -- so that I can better use the split keyboard function to greater advantage. But it's also amazing and a joy to experiment with as it is! It's the first synth that I'm considering getting again to play off of each other.
Hi Ron, you put a great deal of effort into this for us. Thank you for all the thought you put into it. Great job editing both the audio and video. The orchestral sample focus is a great idea. Looks like there is a huge amount of inspiration in the Wavestate. I'd like to get one at some point. Thanks again.
Wow, thank you so much for this. I know I'm echoing many others here, but as someone new to synths who got in way over his head with the wavestate, it's tutorials like this that give me hope at tackling it little by little. Thank you so much for the effort and time spent making this, and the practice and joy it's inspired. Got a sub from me, peace and love!
This is such an amazing upgrade from the old Wavestation. Got it last week and these types of sounds are getting me into another world. Loved the tutorial btw 🙂😄
It's awesome! I need to learn it more, you will have to learn a pretty different user interface but it's worth learning and programming as shown! I hope to make more tutorials in the future
getting mine in two days! excited! thanks for the easy tutorial! hope more to come. Im thinking of locking myself in a cabin somehwere this summer with my wavestate, hashish and notebook.
Hey mate, thank you for showing me how it works. I really like the concept of this synth. It's easy to create nice sounds especially big evolving pads. I will order one soon.
Thank you so much for providing such easy to understand information. Coming from a world of of old fashioned analog gear this is a real step sideways for me. So apart form things like a rc50 loop-station, not so used to menu diving. I have one on approval, and just trying to figure out if this is a good digital style synth to start with. I like this because once learned, it seems you can do quite a bit with one, sequencing and solo sounds. If you have an opinion, I would love to know. Thank you kindly. A.W
My opinion is that it is incredible, the sounds are worth learning a very simple menu system. It is not immediate, but follow my simple instructions in the videos here and you will have endless possibilities. I barely have touched the surface of the synth and it will be a lifetime synth for me. I have used it a lot on my twitch streams as well if you want to check it feel free to jump around
@@RonCavagnaro Thank you again, I have added your tutorials and any of your wavestate material to a new playlist. I eagerly await your following adventures. I was considering the Deluge, as its made where I live, but I like keyboards, old fashioned, I guess. Can't believe we have a high level synth creator in little old New Zealand. Great stuff.
Thank you so much for doing these videos. I just got my wavestate yesterday and felt a bit overwhelmed and thinking maybe it's over my Head. But you broke it down and I feel like I can at least try and replicate this as I start to get familiar with this wonderful synth. Are there user spots to save the patch once you make it ? Haven't read the manual yet as there is so much to absorb. Thank you again and I look forward to re watching this when I am in front of the synth. Also I will be watching the rest of your tutorials. Thank you again.
Yes sorry about that the keyboard was at a difficult angle not much room in the studio to set it up right. Either way that's why I explained as I was going
They are constant, however, I believe they can be paired to BPM somehow... I met an owner who was a lot more experienced than me with the WS who somehow had it quantized to tempo subdivisions
This kit with a simple digital recorder would make for a wonderful little dawless studio. Maybe something like this and a MPC LIVE, or imagine and MPC X and this bad boy! Too many options. I want the nautilus, but I'm not sure the Nautilus will be able to make sounds like this...
Great tutorial. One question: In the 4 steps demo at 5:07, I can see that the steps don’t always move in order (1-2-3-4); sometimes the step lights will show 1-2-1, for example. Why does this happen? (When I look back through the video, it looks like probability for all steps is 100%, so seems like that isn’t what causing steps to play out of order.) What’s going on? Thx.
Considering this synth looking for pads that are based on orchestral and stringed instruments trying the iridium right now and recording samples but this sounds really great is there a way to set up the mod matrix with mod wheel so mod wheel up will increase reverb volume ? Thx 😊
I was looking at a px, (I actually like the sound of this more)but I think this and an iPad Pro/ app setup is way more versatile and will cover more bases for the same price. Tell me I’m mad then...
Are the release parameters a bit jumpy/sensitive, or could it be the synth I have. As it's similar to encoder slippage, any setting above 10 starts getting very sensitive, hope it's not he board.
Hmm release? I don't think I have any jumpy controls, it is something I haven't noticed. Making sure the screen is showing the release I just turn it to where I want, but it's very wide choice.
Hi Ron, I haven’t got a Wavestate yet and I am particularly worried that the samples sound too sampl-y so I wondered how essential the filter and the reverb are to get it somewhat sounding like orchestral sounds? In other words, if one would use the Wavestate without filter and reverb at all can it sound good? Curious about your opinion on that.
It sounds awesome to me. I added reverb and did the filter just to show that it's possible to use. There's so many samples, and to me many sound real enough in a mix with my guitar.
Ron Cavagnaro thanks, reassuring. I might buy this one in the future, because I like instrumental and orchestral sounds a lot. But I am also considering modal argon8 which is quite the opposite of this... a digital synth sound with a narrower range of sounds, but incredibly pure sounding.
James Edinger do you have recommendations for non computer based orchestral romplers? I do like what the Wavestate can do in terms of mixing between samples but I am also interested in getting the broadest set of sounds in hardware form.
I hope you can update this, I've just gotten my new Wavestate and it's upgraded to version 2.1, your tutorial totally lost me at string ensemble, the menu structure is different, I even managed to locate something called String Ensemble 4, but after that I couldn't follow you at all - so much have apparantly changed :/

Great. You make it so much easier. Keep uploading please
Thanks Ron for directing me from the FB group. This series will help. Liked, commented, and subscribed!
