Come back to this regularly - this song is just pure carnage, brilliant. As a teenage drummer growing up with the album just made me think, nope - I can never do that.
A bit late to this on YT, but it's one of my favorite tracks. Especially, around 11:30 and onwards. Ritchie's playing is pure jazz. Along with Paicey and Roger.
I don't think this is Ritchie here, or is it? I know he didn't play on this album in studio, but I guess he might've been with the band by the time they played this version live
The heavy rock song they strecht out as long they could, classic lords distorted organ and blackmores arabic scale metal playing... compined vs paiceys and glovers tight rythm section, bongo playing falsetto screaming gillan... an ultimate masterpiece... nobody beat mk2 by their improvisation and experimental work... they werea great in the 70s.
You're damned right! Back then, no one could touch them. Purple was the only hard-progressive band that knew how to let loose and improvise like a jazz band. And, to be honest, no one has been able to do that since. I mean... later, hard rock evolved into the theatrical act that we now know as metal... Early Purple, on the other had... Pure, fuckin' , unadulterated... MAGIC!
After that awesome little lick at 8-57 Richie's strat cunjures some monstrous, vaguely demonically charged beast emerging from the firmament, unleashed spitting flame. They surely must have partook of said herbal-remedy to channel this level of sonic wizardry ? Breathtaking.
5 outstanding musicians come together
The audience at this gig are amongst the most fortunate and privileged as can be imagined. The memories they must carry ?...sigh.
Only the best live band can play like this! These are Deep Purple!
Absolutely awesome gig, band and song!

This is a MASTERPIECE ! I've got this version since 1981 in a cassette
Ian Gillan at his PEAK!!!! At this time he was the best rock singer ... very distant from everyone else

Yes, the transition jam between roughly 9 and 12 minutes is a standout example of what made Purple so unique at the time. And so atmospheric!
Musical mastery they are on another planet.
Never did a guitar sound so tortured and beautiful. It was like Blackmore wan’t to kill it.
Man they are so good live
My! Bloody! Favourite!
Right here!
Phenomenal. Nice work Jon. Ritchie a beast!!!!

@@joshward7009 you better believe it's ritchie! He's one of the founding members from day one. He left in 1975 to form rainbow 🌈
@@koaguilds oh huh. Always thought he came on around the same time Gillian did
@@joshward7009 he sounded different on the first few albums because he was largely using a Gibson es335

They were on one for sure.
Ive seen A LOT of great bands in concert. Deep Purple is the only one that could completely lobotomize the crowd.
סגול כהה הלהקה שאני אוהב ההופעות התקליטים
5o años escuchan do estos monstruos
@8:20. You're welcome.
Not into keys I take it? LOL
Blackmore looks just like Coverdale in two of the pictures above. Which has little to do with the music, which is spectacular. 🌎
