I love this game but the one thing this game really needed was a "casual" mode where you pretty much just do everything at your leisure. More of like a practice mode. Sometimes I just want to unwind with no real time limit in place.
I've played this in the arcade when I was a kid. It had a big screen, a steering wheel and gas and brake pedals on the arcade and the graphics were to me like there could never be anything better! I got addicted and so I bought the ported game on the gamecube.
Oh my God, you're like a Crazy Taxi god. I couldn't help but watch in slack-jawed awe as you're pulling off all these crazy tricks and shortcuts that I never knew about.
@GreenXcite It was a bit tricky to figure out at first, but it's so simple when you do know how to do it. You have to perform a Super Crazy Dash. To do this, you have to put it in reverse at the beginning, then put it into drive, then IMMEDIATELY after you put it into drive, accelerate! You can see me do this all over in my review. As I'm driving I'll quickly put it into reverse, then quickly drive then immediately accelerate. It gives you the fastest speed! ^^
The Arcade and Dreamcast versions have explicit lyrics. PS2, Gamecube, PC CD-ROM, and maybe the iOS versions have clean soundtracks without the explicit lyrics.
I actually remember playing crazy taxi arcade, it was in a very small cafe in southern italy and the arcade machine was their only one but still took up so much space! You sat in front of the screen like in a real car with a steering wheel, pedals for brake and acceleration and you had a gear shifter for d/r. It wasnt THAT much better than the console ports, if i remember correctly. It didn't have the "original" stage and it also didnt have the crazy box mini games. First console version i ever played back at home was the ps2 port, but im thinking of buying the gamecube one aswell as i like the controller better. They could improve this game by a LOT if they just made a 2nd installment in the series!
@nicoman12345 Uh, no. Unless you're talking about the credits song and the menu screen song. But when playing the actual game, there are only 3 songs that loop over and over and over.
@Ben4737 1. While driving, quickly go into Reverse, then quickly switch back into Drive, then turn in the direction you want to go in. 2. While driving, quickly go into Reverse, then quickly switch back into Drive, and then accelerate really fast!
I have it for Dreamcast, GC, and PSP. Dreamcast and GC are the only ones that have the original arcade music. The PSP has some other music I don't recognize BUT you can play your own Mp3 Music in the PSP version just by placing them in the Music folder and turning on the Custom Music option. Press Select to change songs during play. I still like the Dreamcast version the best. IMO I think it's the closest to the arcade version.
O.o they should've made a steering wheel for the game when it was ported on to dream cast and gamecube also THEY NEED TO BRING THIS GAME BACK I'd love to play this on a xbox360 :D I loove your reviews frequency
I own the PS2 version of this game. Its fun to play even though its not as fun as the Dreamcast version. It looks good for a PS2 game. I like playing Crazy Taxi. In the words of Mark from CGR, its fun to play on any versions of Crazy Taxi. Good review.
I so wished they ported Crazy Taxi 2... (Woops, I said 1 at first ! *deletes the other message*) By the way have you played Crazy Taxi 3 and is it compatible with the Xbox 360 ?
@FreQuenczy Actually, there are 8 songs in the entire game, but, I thought that there were 4 songs in the Original/Arcade mode (not counting the credits and car screen). Maybe I don't know how to count anymore! My life has been a lie! (hem...ok...) I'd like to know also if you've enjoyed the sequel. (only for the DC, which is sad)
I've only played the arcade version of this. HEAVEN!!!! I have to admit, it looks a heck of a lot faster and stuff in this review! Yahoo!!!! I have been trying to hunt this down FOREVER!!!! I guess I'll eventually just turn to E-Bay again. :P
@DarkHyperSonicMan Yeah! This is from wikipedia: "In 2003, Sega filed a lawsuit against Fox Interactive, Electronic Arts, and Radical Entertainment.[2] Sega claimed that the game was a patent infringement of Crazy Taxi. The case, Sega of America, Inc. v. Fox Interactive, et al., was settled in private for an undisclosed amount.[3]"
@nerftendo005 I had the steering wheel and pedals for my Dreamcast version, and it was a lot of fun! Maybe that's why...however, it could also be the fact that I've grown older too.
Yes they are, but when it came out on the Dreamcast, it had great graphics and was a brand new game for most people. But on the Gamecube, the game was old and had bad graphics, but the game is still fun for both systems.
Hey FreQuenczy i think you didn't like the gamecube verision as much cause the graphics were better, the game looked bigger kind of, and the customers had a attuitude when dropped off or when you screwed up but that's my opinion of what you thought why you didn't like the gamecube verisoin as much as the dreamcast verision
When you say the graphics for the Gamecube version are bad, do you mean the Gamecube could have done better with the game, or the graphics are just bad on Gamecube
the arcade game and the DC and GCN games are virtually the same game just that the arcade version has a steering wheel and the DC and GCN versions use a controller. equally good.
So back off your rules! Back off your jibe! Cause I'm sick of not living to stay alive! Leave me alone! I'm not asking a lot! I just don't wanna be controlled! That's all I want..!
James Sunderland every day man well it’s the same that bong that’s on the table starts to call my name! I take a hit and zone out again I’ll be paranoid and hungry by a quarter to ten! Watching reruns on my tv! I’m laughing off my ass to 3s company! I don’t know if I misunderstood but hearing jimmy Buffett never sounded so good!
In order to do a fair review, you should have played the arcade version of Crazy Taxi first. You would have noted the blocky polygons for the people in the city existed in the arcade too. It had nothing to do with the Dreamcast port for the Gamecube. Lower polygon counts were simply that era in time when the game was released. Truthfully, the Dreamcast version was nearly arcade-perfect, if not better due to the added levels & mini-games. I'm glad Gamecube gave it justice over the bad PS2 port.
Oh, so it WAS in arcades. I thought I remembered playing this at The Nugget p: Heheh, I remember making Shanna carsick. This game is like the ultimate rollercoaster ride.
I don't know if you'll agree with me on this, but I think that while playing this game, I thought that sometimes the graphics looked were similar another game that I disliked: Superman 64. As for the review, I think that you described the game fairly well. Although one thing that you should have done was to describe on how STUPID the people are for jumping out of the cab when the driver drives incorrectly, or should I say, NORMALLY, I still found it quite funny when they jump out of the car.
I love this game but the one thing this game really needed was a "casual" mode where you pretty much just do everything at your leisure. More of like a practice mode. Sometimes I just want to unwind with no real time limit in place.
Agreed

yeah I swear I saw one at walmart in the middle of the game section a long time ago
Oh my God, you're like a Crazy Taxi god. I couldn't help but watch in slack-jawed awe as you're pulling off all these crazy tricks and shortcuts that I never knew about.
3:22- 3:45: This is my favorite part of the video.
I hope they remake this and some of the other gamecube games on the 3ds. In my opinion the gamecube was and always will be the best console.
@GreenXcite It was a bit tricky to figure out at first, but it's so simple when you do know how to do it. You have to perform a Super Crazy Dash. I’m surprised Uber and SEGA haven’t teamed up to create a new Crazy Taxi game called Crazy Uber.
"GameCube is not as fun as Dreamcast"
*THEY ARE THE SAME DAMN GAME!*
Love the intros and you have great taste!!!
Does this have the actual original soundtrack
Nice reviews and i love crazy taxi, plus how much was your capture card?
What was the last game in that little intro montage? It looked like Pikmin for a second.
The Arcade and Dreamcast versions have explicit lyrics. PS2, Gamecube, PC CD-ROM, and maybe the iOS versions have clean soundtracks without the explicit lyrics.
New Gabe Order you forgot original Xbox version
Kevin Romero Crazy Taxi 3 was on Xbox, but this first game never came out for it.

@NDSCollector Nope. You can just click at :40 and it'll start buffering from there.
@timewarptrio11 Yes, but not with my particular Dazzle. You'll need the Black or Silver one, not the white one.
@nicoman12345 Uh, no. Unless you're talking about the credits song and the menu screen song. But when playing the actual game, there are only 3 songs that loop over and over and over.

What's the intro music?
@FreQuenczy Actually, there are 8 songs in the entire game, but, I thought that there were 4 songs in the Original/Arcade mode (not counting the credits and car screen). Maybe I don't know how to count anymore! My life has been a lie! (hem...ok...)

Aren't one of the drivers in Sonic and SEGA all stars racing?
why didn't say that the music goes over and over before
Maybe you should review prince of persia the sands of time for the gamecube. It is most often regarded as one of the best prince of persia games.
I've only played the arcade version of this. HEAVEN!!!! I have to admit, it looks a heck of a lot faster and stuff in this review! Yahoo!!!! I have been trying to hunt this down FOREVER!!!! I guess I'll eventually just turn to E-Bay again. :P
On one of your reviews I said to put more jokes in, so THANK YOU!

@DarkHyperSonicMan Yeah! This is from wikipedia:
"In 2003, Sega filed a lawsuit against Fox Interactive, Electronic Arts, and Radical Entertainment.[2] Sega claimed that the game was a patent infringement of Crazy Taxi. The case, Sega of America, Inc. v. Fox Interactive, et al., was settled in private for an undisclosed amount.[3]"

How do you play the mini games?
They're in a part of the main menu, called crazy box, if I remember correctly, I haven't played it in a couple years
Yuri Raslov Thanks
@damitchman9 Download it and burn to a CD using Disc Juggler if you still have the DC. Not all DC play burned games but mine does!
@nerftendo005 I had the steering wheel and pedals for my Dreamcast version, and it was a lot of fun! Maybe that's why...however, it could also be the fact that I've grown older too.
@FreQuenczy need more?
Yes they are, but when it came out on the Dreamcast, it had great graphics and was a brand new game for most people. But on the Gamecube, the game was old and had bad graphics, but the game is still fun for both systems.

Train FTW!
great review FreQuenczy
the arcade game and the DC and GCN games are virtually the same game just that the arcade version has a steering wheel and the DC and GCN versions use a controller. equally good.
This game must take place during the Weimar Republic, when money meant money.
@Grandtendo54321 Yes, B.D. Joe.
@Bestreviews5 I'm most likely get to it eventually.
You just earned a subscription.
crazy taxi on wii would be awesome
So back off your rules! Back off your jibe! Cause I'm sick of not living to stay alive! Leave me alone! I'm not asking a lot! I just don't wanna be controlled! That's all I want..!
Demon Rantz The lyrics to All I Want by The Offspring. It was on the original arcade version and one of the most memorable songs.
IgnitionWildPork Sorry I misunderstood that.
@NJdangerprone Not at all. Hit and Run was more GTA-like. I guess you meant The Simpsons Road Rage?
@WillJill89 No, I saw it as well
@RobbanFoxer Or I can have fun and say it the CRAAAZZY way! :D
I have this for Dreamcast.

This game is like the ultimate rollercoaster ride.
2:45 City escape?????
