      @@nathan1sixteen I think there are drivers who would have chosen their words more carefully, especially when talking about the Penske organization. Yes, he benefitted, but he didn't tiptoe around the issue, either. I like that.

    Newgarden shouldered the blame, kind of, then spent 25 minutes trying to rationalize and explain away the "mistake" all the while getting more emotional because of the humiliation. Tough lesson.

    My question is did IndyCar just go back and review the in car video where they could see the button being pressed and the lights come on with no corresponding data showing up in the data feed to timing and scoring?

      Roger isn't the CEO but his name is on the Series in Penske Entertainment Group. He owns the series. I agree with you but not happening.

    Crazy that it took this drama to get people to notice IndyCar again. I was watching Kenny Wallace’s take on this whole thing on here last night and he admitted that he didn’t even know the IndyCar season had started and that the series’ marketing team sucks. And he’s right! Which is a shame because there’s some insanely good drivers and great racing in this series.

    Liked Josefs statament about this, very honest just put his hands up and admited he and the team were 100% wrong.
    The thing that shocked me a bit tho, was just how emotional he was when talking about his mistake, saying he and the team just thought there had been a rule change and were so certain of it, you could really hear just how stupid he felt by doing that.
    You can say all you want, but if you think that was an act, then Josef would be in Hollywood not Indycar, cus if it was an act, he deserves an Oscar for it

      and I think he was sincere. that being said I work in "Engineering" and this type of thing would always be noticed. be scrutinized. be monitored. the guy who should be shedding buckets as Murray Walker would say is Tim Cindric. As team leader of the #2 Penske car, the fish stinks from the head down. His response to the media was lame and awkward. My take.....it'll play out very slowly and subtly. At the end of the season or even after Indy, Tim Cindric will be replaced as President of Penske Racing. watch this space.

      Where was ROGER giving a major press conference, taking 100 percent of the blame for the scandal. I am sick that he hid from view and let Josef hang in the wind, with that tortuous press conference. A weasel, not what a team leader, team owner should do. He is a total weasel.

      @@madlopt that is the official line. But it's a lie. If they were testing a hybrid system it would have nothing to do with p2p, in fact you'd need a whole new ecu mapping, everything.
      I get that on its face it sounds like a simple mistake. But it wasn't, and it was used and instead of the drivers coming right out and saying hey I had an advantage, they shut up and waited.
      Penske owns indycar, owns indy motorspeedway. He will get away with whatever he wants. The pr spin and people believe it; I always wondered who actually believed the spin, now I know.

      @@natel7382 "Nothing to do with p2p" is as far from correct as you can get. Unlike other hybrid systems in a series like IMSA, the IndyCar hybrid system is _directly_ tied to P2P. The cars will run as they always have after going hybrid until P2P is pressed and the electric motor currently being tested adds 100HP for the duration of P2P. The hybrid system only exists to create the P2P effect. So yes, it makes sense that portions of the software were turned on/off to facilitate hybrid testing for the new IndyCars.

    I agree with him but lets be honest im sure this happens quite often look at toronto last year palou with a damaged front wing while saving fuel pulled away from the field to catch luundgard in the day of spec racing that shouldnt have been possible

    My question all along: with all the tech Arrow McLaren has available how in the world did they not realize Newgarden was using PTP on restarts in St Pete? 50 HP over everyone else is not a difficult thing to see with the telemetry data etc they have available, and other drivers just KNOW when it's being used by other drivers around them. Not to mention the in-car....did Penske put a different button on their wheel and disable the PTP lights? They HAD to have known then or they're incompetent. Then Josef's presser, which was so nonsensical it was beyond cringe....a guy who knows he's been busted cheating tying himself in knots trying to say it was but it wasn't, he did but he didn't. The whole thing doesn't add up and there's more to this story. What that is, I have no clue. My guess is this was known by the other teams after St Pete and they decided to hold off so they could to sandbag Roger and the Penske team/drivers right before the month of May, but again, who knows?

    Pato is my guy, but he can be tough to watch on track.
    Like he said all this, which i firmly agree with, and then went out and had one of the worst weekends ever, culminating with taking out his poor rookie teammate on the last lap.

    Reality - why would they need to cheat.

    All teams know that every aspect of engine control is computer programed, everything is recorded like a laptop. Off hand, I honestly believe this was not caused on purpose. Had it been just one of a teams car, i would have been more suspicious. But all three, I don't think so.

    I now DESPISE Roger Penske, letting his drivers roll under the bus when HE, Penske, the supposed "boss" should have had a major press conference taking full responsibility. Lost all respect for that team, most of all Penske.

    Absolutely disgusted by Penske. Especially the fact these teams owned by the guy who owns the series, and Indy speedway! I'm going to guess this has been going on for a long time. As heavy as the penalties were, they are way too light. Won't respect these jerks again.

    This whole thing has helped indycar free media,media and advertising was nowhere to be found until this and a mid tear driver making comments like that is risky.you could gain fans or lose fans in a series that is lacking fan base be careful,the fans purchase merchandise that give you a paycheck even if you don’t win .good or bad Free media attention 👍

    While Patos opinion are and seem correct, everyone is trying something. But Penske got caught. A test and 3 races and they did not see it ? Sure…….Pato seems to be a good driver, but to aggressive, he reminds me of a young Juan Pablo Montoya, and many drivers who and until they got it, they crashed and made mistakes all over. Pipe down Pato, the slower the faster you will go.

    lol push to pass? this is such a joke of a scandal. you put a boost button in a car and you think it wont get abused?... lol... the essence of racing is to make the car you are competing with as fast as possible without getting busted. I doubt the majority of cars that have ever won have been perfectly legal. ppl get busted, they make new regs to catch it in the future and you move on. everyone going to the extreme needs to sit down and let the old dogs handle this. everything else is just jealousy and power moves against penske.

    I must be missing something. Pato even said its all looked at, so how can you even get away it. Also, as technical as these cars are, you would think it wouldn't even be able to be used until they hit proper spot on track 🤷

      Penske found a software hack whereby they could activate the PTP system and prevent it from relaying data to timing and scoring during specific periods during the race when PTP was supposed to be disabled. So they could get the advantage of added power, not be "charged" for the seconds they were using it, and nobody would notice in real time what was going on.

    This is what happens when a team owner buys the whole series .. conflict of interest.. they were blackmailed by Andretti or McLaren .. someone caught wind. They had to come forward and have the series punish 😉 Penske (bro owns the series) complete slap on the wrist.

    Push to pass is about the dumbest thing that's ever happened in IndyCar racing.

      Its better than DRS as that benefits the chasing car and not the one leading. Push to pass isn't free either. 50+ HP means more fuel used during push to pass. So it isn't free or without cost and it isn't finite. DRS is really desperate attempt to make the marginal racing in F1 better.
