The purpose of this dance is to divert the attention of the family members of the deceased and ease the mourning for the deceased by performing the lotus pond dance in funerals and using various movements such as singing, dancing, reading and doing. . According to legend, the lotus pond dance originated from the story of "Mu Lian rescues his mother" in the Buddhist scriptures: in order to save his mother from hell (the lotus pond), Mu Lian, a great disciple of the Buddhist school, held the magical treasure pool stick (tin stick) to break through hell and save his mother. Therefore, the lotus pond dance also has the functions of encouraging good and punishing evil, propagating to drive away difficulties and repaying kindness, respecting the elderly and filial piety.
