  • Acral Letiginous Melanoma is a subtype of melanoma not caused by exposure to the sun. I am not a medical professional, just a melanoma skin cancer survivor (the kind of melanoma that is caused by over sun exposure). A viewer reached out to me hoping to connect with others diagnosed with this subtype so I'm hoping this video connects people because cancer is hard and even harder when you are going through it alone.

Thank you for drawing attention to this very important topic. There have been very many times where I’ve noticed something on a stranger, but I did not say anything.🤷🏻‍♀️☺️

Same! It’s tricky to approach people about this.

My daughter was mis-diagnosed too. She was initially diagnosed with a staff infection in July 2021. It wasn’t until Feb. 2022 that she was properly diagnosed with ALM. It was ulcerated and about the size of a 1/2 dollar by then and stage 3C. Long and very painful story of left heel resection, wound vac, skin graft and drug infusions but, she has NED right now. She’s white and the Dr. Said he never thought he’d see an ALM in a white person because it is very rare in white people. It started as a a crack in the heel of her left foot. She thought it was “summer feet” at first but it wouldn’t go away and got bigger. Went into L inguinal lymph nodes. Be alert because this one threw us for a loop!
Also may show up between the fingers or a dark spot in a nail bed! Be well! ❤️

Hello, I have a question. I had a small asymmetrical mole under my foot which suddenly occured nearly two years ago. Since I thought it might be ALM, I went to a dermatologist. He performed an incisional biopsy and sent it to the lab to be examined. According to the result, the pathologist suggested the complete removal of the lesion to make an accurate diagnosis. However, after reading the result, my dermatologist ignored that suggestion and said it wasn't necessary. My wound healed 2 weeks later and I realized a very small mole occured on the same spot which had been removed. Can it really be ALM? If so, can ALM come back if it is not removed completely? What should I do? Thanks for your answer in advance. 🙂

Hi! I would be worried too. I'm not a medical professional so, if I were you, I'd see a different dermatologist than the first one you saw and definitely get it looked at. If you have the pathology reports from the first biopsy, take that with you to a new dermatologist. Good luck! I know these things can be worrisome.
