UPDATE: Few things to mention. - BBCi Player - Not loading just black screen. - Now TV - Downloaded from play store, but when you open it says not compatible with the box. - FREEVIEW Live TV feature is only for UK. Will not work in US.
An good review, so thank you. Already owning the HDR-2000T 1TB box, I was impressed how responsive it was. Even though I'll probably get one, I was disappointed to see that it doesn't play RUclips HDR videos, just like the 2019 Shield TV Pro! (With such power at hand, it's ridiculous thinking that both my LG UHD Blu-ray player and the Google Chromecast with Google TV can!)
Yas! First video on this Humax Aura UHD 4K... and coming from my favourite techie, and the King android tv boxes - Chigz! Thank you for another awesome, detailed review. I was really hoping to watch a vid on this, yours has been super helpful! I will be sharing my views on it too, soon :)
I would be very interested in seeing how the Aura app works for streaming to another android device. Especially if it will run on another Android TV box.
Looks great, thank for the review. Do you know if the Now TV app supports their Boost addon (ie 1080p)? And any luck installing Kodi, Emby, Plex (client and Media Server)?
Works fine from the remote. But unable operate from my iPhone. Suggest there is an Humax Aura app this does not exist in apple App Store. Loaded the Humax live tv app but it will not accept my email or password also suggest I need to have the Humax and phone on the same network which they are I set up the box initially via the phone. Also says to turn the network server to on in the settings then select connect. Can’t find the network server in setting and can’t turn on the connect.
Great Review Chigz will it let you format a USB for more on board storage for apps Like the Nvidia Shield because the 1 TB storage showed up as separate storage
Great review Chigz, as always. I am shocked there is no native Netflix on the box. Did Humax make any statement on when that native application will come?
Got mine today and set it up. Impressed BUT have a problem with BBC iPlayer not loading. Have you tested your iPlayer. I reckon it won't be long before Netflix is added. Great review.
This box seems awesome! Humax products sold here in Italy are total crap but i would buy this one. I wonder if I can use the internet part outside the UK or if i would an APN
I have a 4k freesat box but its actually useless as no terestrial TV channels offer 4k as is freeview, no 4k. Its really only good for 4k youtube and 4k movies. Although I must say, the box you reviewed has lots more features. Thanks for the review Chigz as always :)
Thanks for the comprehensive review. Anyone know how to copy SD files from the Aura to an external USB drive? Android file explorers don't seem to show any.
Did you encounter any lip-sync issues? I've read one review on Amazon, who claimed the problem was unresolvable with regards to Disney+. I have no plans to use Disney+ but wondered if the lip-sync issue spread to MKV playback?
Have just got one. A few little glitches, but overall pleased. Also getting good reception off my cheap indoor aerial. Any ideas how to get the sky news app UK ? Google store only offer sky news Arabia for some reason. Hmmm 😘
You didn't really cover the DVR aspect of the device very well. For example: If I were to install locast would I be able to schedule a recording from a particular locast channel or is the record feature limited to just off the air channels? Since I already have mythtv for a DVR and a smart tv I don't see a lot of added value here.
I bought an LG 4K TV last year and it's great but the Freeview Guide is sooo slow to update (Sometimes 20 to 30 seconds) and doesn't update in the background. It's an appalling design fault and I really do need to look at getting a Freeview box
If they could have struck a deal with nvidia and incorporated a shield tv in the pvr then that would be awesome but as it is at 250 notes nah I'll stick with my shield plus Panasonic pvr for now. Great video though Chigz 👍
Looks great prospect to replace my VM service. Only issue is I don't currently have an aerial for Freeview and would need to investigate a non-rooftop aerial which depends more on your location to transmitters for quality of signal. Time to investigate.
Hi buddy... I can highly recommend this... smile.amazon.co.uk/One-All-Amplified-Indoor-Digital/dp/B000NW3PSO/ I've used this & it works great... It's amplified so can boost the signal if ur in a bad area or have thick walls etc. U can control the gain & switch it off if not needed.
Antenna connects should have been F Connectors. Far better than the decades old last century or so push type connectors. Can't understand why in this age, push fits are still being used.
I see the app available in Google Play Store, any chance of a review? I'd like to see it working on an Android TV Box before buying the Aura. Many thanks, keep up the good work! 😉
@@matt3642 unfortunately not I eventually sold it very laggy many apps are not compatible if I were you I would give it a miss or wait for the next model to come out
Android TV devices that support the TV version of Netflix will have a 'Netflix ESN' listed on the 'about' page. 10:44 That's due to Netflix DRM not being able to work correctly since the files and ESN were missing. 10:53 I think it'd need to be Netflix certified as well. Other services seem to play in UHD because those services likely use Google's Widevine DRM, if they use any kind of video DRM. 11:18 I believe it's because Disney Plus uses Google Widevine for its DRM, or at least, Disney was listed as one of the client companies on the Widevine website. Honestly, I think I'm going to stick with my Mi Box since that has a valid Netflix ESN and can play Netflix content at FHD (it's not the Mi Box S which is the model that supports UHD).
Have you had any luck side-loading any apps yet? I can't get a single app, that isn't on Play Store, to load on my Aura. If you've had success, any chance of a tutorial on how you did it?
Hi Chigz great video as always you say that the tv channels can be recorded 4 different at the same time is this done through the aerial socket alone or are some recorded via the internet because being an ignorant git i cant get my head around this when you you have a sky sat you have to have 2 lnbs to get 2 channels?
Does it have the Pluto TV app? And if it does can the Pluto channel list be added to the TV guide listings (Over the air and streaming channels combined in the TV guide) much like a Sony Android TV? Thanks. And a good review!
Most of the digital recorders I have seen are Humax and they do not impress me. All seem to go nuts after you fill up the HDD, and they are less than the most responsive machines I have ever played with on top of that. Hopefully the A53 1.8 Ghz quad core in this will provide a snappier experience, but I wouldn't count on it. Likewise the VideoCore 6 is one of the weaker mobile GPU cores on the market - honestly the entire thing is utterly unimpressive for the price they are asking for only 1 TB of storage.
If you can sideload apps can you install a VPN or is this not possible ?? Also I have an old Samsung HD TV and wanted to know if this would improve the picture quality in SD....
Hi I have Sky Q 4k and want to go over to freeview and wonder is the box on record playback when you stop it does it show whole picture? As the most irritating thing about Sky Q is if you stop the recording there is a bottom bar that does not give you the full picture and is also dark below the bar.
I was very interested in the Aura before your review now even more so 👍 I did buy the Humax 5000 but sent it back, loved the look, hated the software 🤷♂️ Netflix i don't use so not a deal breaker for me. Does the Eurosport app work ok on it?
My 2Tb model arrived this morning, all seems to work including BBC iplayer. I did get a black screen (and we thought BDOS was just a Windows thing) the first time I tried to record something as it then wouldn't display a tv picture. Power off and on seemed to resolve and now seems fine, it was early in the setup so maybe it was getting the hdd ready. Picture quality seems far superior to my very old pvr box and everything works quickly, much faster than a really new LG tv guide. Have located a manual on the Humax site so will read that later. Looks like there's supposed to be a Humax Aura App for IOS and Android but doesn't seem to be in either store yet. Iplayer - seems to work sometimes. Running from the shortcut at the top of the screen seems to give a black screen but scrolling down to where the apps are listed in detail it works, the shortcut up the top then works. I also had an issue with it saying internet not connected, the settings indicated that wifi was switched on but I haven't entered the password as I'm using ethernet. I'm guessing it's a bit buggy still, hopefully updates will be pushed out. Have discovered the remote from our very old BT Youview box (Humax) controls most functions on the Aura which is a plus as my wife won't have to learn another remote.
Hi can you tell me if this records in different quantities to make more space on hard drive. Also, will this transfer recordings from the box to hard drives.. thanks.
Does anyone know how to transfer Files from usb to the 1tb internal harddrive. iv got the file manager but when i try to transfer/copy my movies or music from my usb to the harddrive i get a "cannot copy read me file only" or along those lines. it is a android at the end of the day it should be able to do this? is there some sort of restriction on the box or harddrive? root access? Can anyone help me please??

I was thinking about the same question about USB storage, and those Remoate App Buttons which will become useless if the app is discontinued. Roku makes the same mistake. He should have covered it.
