  • If you've been looking for the best white sneakers (actually, the best white leather sneakers), you've no doubt considered the Koio Capri Triple White and the Common Projects Original Achilles. And in considering Koio vs. Common Projects you've likely asked yourself some of the following questions: Why are Common Projects so expensive? Are Common Projects worth it? Is Koio really as good as Common Projects?

I've had a lot of experience with the Common Projects Original Achilles low tops. I bought my first pair seven years ago and I'm currently on my third pair, which are brand new. Although I've not tried the full range of minimal white leather sneakers throughout many different price categories (please refer to The Kavalier's video linked below for that), I have gotten to know the Koio Capri Triple White sneaker pretty well also.

In this video I'm doing deep-dive and full comparison of the Koio Capri Triple White and the Common Projects Original Achilles low. How do they stack up head to head? What are the similarities? What are the differences? And which is better? If you're looking the best minimal white leather sneakers in this class, this video is for you.

Rose Anvil bought a pair of Common Projects without understanding their aesthetics and design. White achilles low would look so much worse with veg tanned leather. I think people needs to understand what's the difference between chrome and veg tan leather before claiming that CPs should use veg tanned leather.

I’ve owned both. TBH, when I picked up my first pair of Koios, it made the CPs irrelevant to me. I found the Koios more comfortable and on the same level of style and finish. To buy the CPs after trying Koios would just be an insult to my own intelligence.

Very fair and straightforward comparison. I’ve been a fan of the white leather tennis shoe for a long time my, first pair was the Adidas Robert Halliet (later to become the Stan Smith). I’ve owned M Gemini, Crown North Hampton, Comme des Garcon and Common Projects and I have to say I enjoyed them all. Since I’m sentimental when it comes to clothing I still always have a pair of Stan Smith’s in the closet. (I also always have several pairs of Jack Purcells) Although the old brands are not as comfortable as the new more upscale brands. I also played tennis against Stan in high school many years ago.❤️

The world is a bonkers place and I’m a newcomer to sneakers.
I live in South Northamptonshire, England, and found out about Crown Northampton from your shout out to Kavalier’s Sneaker reviews. They’re 15 miles from my front door, go figure!
Anyway I went up to the factory in July with my son to get a pair for his birthday and came away with a pair for myself as well. Chris, the owner, is trying to hold it together through Covid19 and distributes the work out to his staff to work from home during this difficult times.
I now have two pairs and love the workmanship. Great to see a good review from Rose Anvil this week too. It’s well deserved.
Great craftsmanship should always be celebrated. Enough said.
Keep up the great work too. If you have any more Northamptonshire finds then please let me know.

My two cents: I own both of these shoes. I bought the Koios first, but I wasn't completely satisfied knowing I ALMOST got the best. I got the cps about a month later.
Another major reason I got the cp's is that the Koios were KILLING my heel. After some time, it got better, but never completely went away. The cp's had a similar problem, but they ARE slightly narrower, which hugs my foot better and prevents the heel-slippage better. Ultimately however, both of these shoes, in pursuit of that "clean /minimal aesthetic", have low-cut heels, which WILL give you discomfort for the first several wears.
I'm writing all this to hopefully warn people that they may be disappointed with their investment at first, and the heel discomfort is definitely something to consider before buying.
Thank you He Spoke Style for the great video.

Razmspiele some luxury things are actually built for their price, such as a Barbour Beaufort or a Burberry Scarf. Some things are simply expensive due to the fact that they both have properties other things can’t have and are really rare to come by such as cashmere or shetland.

    • @pmrp12
      @pmrp12 4 года назад +6

Razmspiele it’s one thing for something to have a “luxury tax”, but it’s another thing to be deceitful. I’m not familiar enough with how Common Projects markets these or what they say about them, but for so many to say it’s made with a particular quality of materials and it’s actually not-is a problem. At this point, there are so many viable competitors in the minimal sneaker space that the old guard needs to step it up to compete-not remain stagnant or worse, step down for profit. Again, don’t know enough to claim what’s happening here-just reacting to the recent drama.
Related, I couldn’t be happier with my Beckett Simonon Reid’s! Way exceeded my quality and comfort expectations, especially for the sale price.

I just purchased my first pair of CPs after looking to get a pair for a couple of years. I researched a ton online and in person. Reading blogs and videos (like yours). My conclusion after the research was that the silhouette of the CPs is different than all other options available in the same category. It’s a bit narrower, elongated and streamlined. For my personal aesthetics nothing beats the look of it. I also found there are great deals for CP that you can get which makes it an even better buy compared to KOIO. I personally feel KOIO’s profile is not as streamlined as CP. Enjoyed watching your video as always.

Yes, I agree that the Koios are slightly "chunkier". Not much but if you're sensitive to small details like that, you really notice it. I feel like it's the extra strips of leather rather than just the stitching on CP that contributes to that.

    Hi,
    Amongst all the controversy...
I was searching for my first sneakers and bumped into ‘The Kavalier’ vlog. In his review of high-end sneakers, which you linked in your Common Project/koio review, he reviewed the Crown Northampton shoe.
I live 16miles from the Northamptonshire, factory so this morning I went for a fitting, with Chris the owner, and in 3 weeks I should get my shoes.
Strange because I found Kavalier because I was already subscribed to you so I found Crown Northampton, my local sneaker maker, via a US vlogger shoe review. Small world.
Keep up the good work. I’d love to hear your take on Super Cedar by Byredo.

There is no other sneaker with a comparable silhouette and elegance of the Achilles. The only other one I have ever seen is the Gustin brand but those are not ready to wear. In any case, the price is too high but you can find barely used or new for $300 ish. I have worn the hell out of my CPs (I walk nearly 20,000 steps a day while at work) and have noticed hardly any wear on them. I do use shoe trees and clean them every few months. The thing is that most people don't know the subtle differences between these white sneakers when you're wearing them, also, they are ALL going to crease and lose their look after some wear, so unless you have the cash to keep popping hundreds, you're fine with a lower-priced option provided they are comfortable and not keep complete crap quality.

Nothing really LIVES up to the price. Rose Anvil also openly admitted he didn't understand a lot of the design that went into the shoe, like the usage of a shank. There may be a lot of engineering nuances that the CPs have, that other shoes don't.

    • @Jojojojo-mk1pj

bluewker shanks are only used for heeled shoes and boots so they don’t flatten out and lose support. Doesn’t make sense in a flat sneaker. No engineering nuances, just weird/useless design.

I’ve had both Koio and Common Projects sneakers.
I returned the Koios almost immediately as the sizing felt wrong, it felt like an extremely narrow last, I don’t know if this is a normal with the brand or if it was a QC issue but I’m a normal foot size, and it was way to thin of a sneaker.
I loved my Common Projects but I honestly don’t feel like they stood up to heavy use, even with taking good care of them they lasted barely more than a year.
I would say my favorite white sneaker has been the New Republic Kurt, it is a great value and when the sneaker lasts only a year or so I don’t feel bad about that price point

Thanks, Brian. "Common" misconception for the "Common Projects" is that it is EU sizing. They are, in fact, IT sizing. This will account for the slight difference you saw between the CPs and Koio. When considering sizing for this shoe - just note that comparable IT sizing is one size LOWER than EU. As an example - if you are 42 EU then you will likely find yourself at a 41 in Common Projects. As with any sizing "recommendation," I suggest trying on a pair or two before making the purchase. Especially when considering the higher price point CPs.

Like you I used to assume the Common Projects must be amazing quality, also. But, a cobbler on RUclips cut them open and found that they use top grain instead of full grain leather, and it’s chrome tanned instead of vegetable tanned. They also glue more than they stitch. Common Projects cuts a lot of corners that you don’t know about. You could do better for less money. Unless you’re just buying them for show.

I’ve been wearing CP’s for about 15 years now and I love them. I have owned around 9 or 10 different colours in leather, patent leather, suede and cotton. The white colour way is obviously the most versatile and I have owned at least 5 pairs. They are durable and comfortable and in my opinion still look great long after the first box fresh wear. My one criticism is the price, they have become over priced for what they are. Yes they are a high quality item, but the quality is still the same as it was when I first bought them 15 years ago and I paid probably a third of the price of what they are now. Popularity has seen a steady increase in pricing, which for me makes them less attractive. I only buy them when on sale now and I’m ok with that. Good comparison video.
