I’m looking on converting my Orion xt10 in pretty much the same manor you did. I find a lot of resistance to this idea and everyone says this impossible and it can’t be done go buy yourself a 1500$+ 8 inch on a eq mount. I say it is possible and much cheaper and you have proved that as well as a few others. Could you possibly include some sort of parts list so I can try this myself. Thank you.
Yes. the system defaults tracking all the time as encoders are offset. the goto moves to the target guided by encoders. The accuracy of goto is 0.1 degree. Certainly, you can push the telescope close to the target and let the goto takes it over. The tracking is activated as the telescope reaches the target. In tracking, the motors travels with the averaged (15s ~ 5min) speed to ensure few seconds camera exposure.
