Next time I visit Europe I'm going to try to hunt down a Certina... They are really hard to find here in Australia. I love the look of them and no one else does it quite the same. Love the videos. You are a talented horologist and cinematographer!
My watchmaker daughter and I share our love for Swiss made Certina timepieces. It was a great restoration, peaceful to watch and relaxing. Lovely work on your behalf and we thank you so much. ~Wendi and daughter Billie UK 🌻🌻
Great video! I like how you can see all the details so clear. And the soothing sounds from the tools and screws when you're picking apart and putting together the watch, it is 👌
Just found your channel and glad I did as not many channels out there would show a Certina movement and what a lovely looking movement. Also your presentation is excellent. Look forward to the next one.
Happy that you found and also enjoyed my video :) Agree, very beautiful movement and high quality. Thank you for your kind words, I'm soon finished with my new project so see you soon :).
Thank you sir, very glad to hear that you like it! Its Bergeon Head swab, it has a static/sticky top so great for collecting dust etc and no need to touch the dail. On the mainspring I put 9010, aha I see, maybe 8200 grease?
The winding arbor looked quite loose in the barrel bridge. Did you consider tightening the hole? Also, why did you spread out the oil on the cap stone? I was under the impression a well-defined droplet in the center was best. Thanks for sharing!
Hi, thank you for youre time looking at the video and commenting. I didnt notice this about the loose arbor but now i need to investigate it =). About the cap stone, the jewel was quite hydrophobic so i couldnt just put a dropplet right at it, i had to like "spread" it on the jewel so the oil leaves the oil stick. But I will try another method next time, maybe a bigger oil stick so the dropplet of oil is bigger so then it might leave the stick easier. Great details, thank you!
@@Watcheyes I suggest you watch Chronoglide here on RUclips. Kalle shows how to tighten arbor holes with a staking set. Regarding the oil droplet, you don't want it to spread out. The chaton is domed. So, when you place the cap jewel (which is flat) on the chaton, capillary action draws the oil to the center of the setting where the pivot rides.
Intressant video och kul att resultatet blev så bra trots problemet med huvudfjädern. Imponerande ordning på utrustningen och kul att originalpåsarna finns kvar :).
Hi Sir : Did you only just using Benzene and IPA to clean the watch , no more other solvents ? By the way , benzene has been banned long time ago because it will cause cancer , don't you know ? Your video is very clear , thank you for your posting !
Hello Ben, Yes I used Benzine (its petroleum) and IPA, nothing more. This is standard solution that you by in the food store but good ventilation is needed. Thank you for posting and I'm happy that you found the video to have good quality, see you later =).
Hello James, of course, to be honest I dont know the brand, this is a very old winder from maybe 60-70s, I have seen it on ebay a few times so hopefully you can pick one up, they are quite cheap. It has worked very good for me.
You are correct Douro20, you have a good sense of details. This was my second movement to open so I hadn't this knowledge before If I'm being honest. Thank you for commenting, see you later :)
hello, my two cents: i would of liked to see a cleaning of the dial and hands. i know you usually do this, as ive watched many of your videos. i like that you dont use the obligatory watch cleaning machine. its not that you cant afford one with the impressive setup you have. so to me you dont have one because you dont want one. nice work!
Hello Nick and I appreciate the feedback alot. I my next upcoming video I will show in detail hands cleaning, dial cleaning and more of the manual watch part cleaning. Thank you and see you soon again.
Hi, thank you for watching the video and commenting. Thats correct, next time I will not sand them but "buff" them so they get some shine back. You are correct =).
Yes, didn't have one at this moment. I have one now which you can see in my latest video. I missed on thing on this watch, the barrel bridge was quite worn, so that needs to be adjusted. Thanks for commenting 😀
I have inherited this exact watch from my father who passed away when i was young, and this was one of the few sources I could find about it. Do you have any more information about the watch? I also inheritred a similair one with a white face. Edit: jag ser nu att du är svensk. Var håller du till? Jag skulle kanske vilja restaurera mina
Too bad the hands and dial are not restored, I was wondering how that is done. I heard somebody claims those and the case are the most expensive parts of a watch.
Glad you watched the video. IMO the dial can't be restored because then its repainted. Hands can be polished slightly, that would be nice. But it's nice to keep it old as it is also.
You are correct sir. In the beggining the watch was not possible to wind at all, completly dead, but it was just stuck the click against the ratchet wheel (was not in the video). Next project which Im doing now is a correct restoration:).
Hi, in this project i hadnt plan to polish anything so I just kept it original. In my upcoming project I will polish to get it a little more clean. Hope you will like next project.
I enjoy watching watch servicing vids that doesn't show case polishing as part of the servicing, please let the case be as it is, it cringe me. Btw, I've liked and subscribed.
Very glad to hear John that you enjoyed my video, I agree, some vintage watches needs to be untouched and stay so. Thank you, Im doing a project at the moment but it has some very little case polishing, still doesnt change its old appearance, just some lesser buffing. See you soon.
Beautiful watch!

What a lovely watch well serviced. Certina's are so underated.
Hi, thank you for watching the video. Yes, Certina is very underrated, from this year the quality is equal or maybe above the top brands :)
It is beautiful simple and elegant. Certina should remake this method again.
I agree Alfred, the vintage style was often very "clean" designed. Thank you for watching my video and commenting.
What a beautiful black dial. I just ❤️ it.
Certinas are underrated by along shot. Beautifully designed movement, easy to work on and nicely finished. Excellent work and video. Cheers, Geoff
Agree, great quality, finishes and easy to assembly. Much appreciated, thank you! Regards Josef
Great restoration & nice timepiece

Hello Andrzej, many thanks for your time watching my videos :) thank you!
I don't have a vintage certina, but I have two new ds1, great and beautiful watches from certina. Great job on this piece SR.
That's a great watch! Yes certina is pure quality and so beautiful, they are built like tanks.

Was that oil you put on the mainspring? I would recommend a thicker grease instead

Is Bensin the same as petrol, gasoline, or is it a specific product you can buy wherever you are? Thanks!
Hi, yes, it's pure gasoline I think. Also like ligther fluid or nafta. Yes, should be possible to buy at ordinary food market store.
