He is doing everything right, he's become one of the biggest stars in the UFC. He has had more press than McGregor this year, and even the Colby vs. Leon press conference focused on Ian. The thing is, Ian needs to actually make it to the fight. The pressure might be too much for him, and he might go on a losing streak like Jame Vick.

Yeah the only way to finish volk is by a knockout and I think illa will go for it since he said it himself. But if he can't knockout volk, then he's in for a long night.

I feel like when we see two wrestlers go at it we end up seeing a stand up war. If this is the case give me Cejudo. I have this weird feeling that a head butt may cause a cut that is in a spot where the doctor steps in and calls it.
• I think Ian will get it done by decision 29-28 across the board.
• I truly believe that Whitaker is much better than Costa and will earn an easy decision win.
• Volk is the man at featherweight and won’t be able to be held down by Topuria and will outclass him across 5 rounds for a decision victory.

Volk is older than when he fought Chad Mendez and maybe this counts against him...BUT...he is also clearly better. There aren't many in the UFC who've gone on a steeper curve of improvement than Volk over the last few years. Because, don't forget, he came to MMA later than most...after a Rugby League career. He's still on a part of the learning curve where he's getting real bang for his buck.

People don't understand Volk use to play Front Row in rugby league that's like being a line backer in the NFL All these feather weights are like are very small in Volks eyes.

For a while I have thought Topuria would be the biggest challenge for volk. Ilia's style & strengths are the real deal. Boxing, grappling, ground & pound, elite defense, balance, movement, reaction speed, striking velocity and mixing in body shots with ko level head shots. This could go either way I just hope it's a battle of high level skill and grit. I hope merab can beat Henry or if Henry wins I hope O'malley can humble Henry's annoying ass. After Cory vs O'malley happens!
I don't think I've seen this high a confidence from anyone in this day and age except Ilia. He's so sure that he'll beat Alex that he might have drunk some kind of potion that gave him invincible strength and surety!

Yair is a level above the rest of the Feather weights, and Max is a level above that, and Volk is a level above Max...We don't know where Topuria fits in that list because Volk got tired of Max beating all the contenders..I suspect Topuria is at the bottom of that list of four, but he is improving fast, and is probably a future champion, some day in the future..

@@MemeSFX Ya except that is not a good judge of how their different styles will mesh in the cage..Sometimes MMA math like that works, but frequently it doesn't..Any of these guys could beat any of these other guys on any given night..But ya, Topuria skipped the line, he didn't get through max or Yair, so Volk would have a contender to fight..Reminds me of Israel Adesanya getting Strickland to skip the line so he had someone to fight..Alex pereira got KO'd by Israel but Alex KO'd Strickland then Strickland beat Israel..MMA math doesn't usually work..But my money is on Volk..
Tbh same thing was said before the Yair fight. A normal form Volk will just take Ilia to school with a 50-45. ilia has no kicking game, 80% are power shots with openings. Ilia is great, but i doubt he would Beat max, Yair or Arnold.

Volk is done after that headkick
He didn't even get fully KO'd. He got wobbled. After a brutal weight cut since he wasn't in shape because he had surgery. Volk beat Yair in between and Islam did not fight until that rematch. Volk should have never agreed to take that fight under those horrible conditions.
UFC fans are so fickle. Volk outclasses Topuria and shows how shortsighted fans like these are.
@@GengoSenmon yeah it actually drives me nuts how some of these people just repeat "volk is done after Islam knocked him out" as if MMA is actually like that. I just gotta ignore the noise and understand there is much more depth to top tier level MMA. Regardless of all this tho, I have felt like Topuria vs volk will be such epic battle of skill. Even if volk didn't do the rematch with Islam I thought this match will be a huge test
We'll see how Oliveira does with Arman but it reminds me of how people predicted Oliveira would go on a massive loss streak, be beaten in rematches by guys like Chandler and Poirier and retire on a skid as soon as he lost to Islam and broke his 11 fight win streak.

I don't like the narrative that Volk is cracking because of the Islam loss dude got caught flush with a head kick 9 times out of 10 that's goodnight Irene doesn't matter who you are just look at Cro Cop v Gonzaga dude is still the goat at 145 and Topuria is gonna need to put on the best performance of his life to have a chance of beating him.
Have to ask myself if Topuria could beat Max Holloway, and I think I have my answer. UFC didn't have Topuria fight Max for a reason.
So, it works that Volk wanted the fight, because the UFC sure wasn't going to be excited for a Max vs Volk IV. Yet.
Volks should be worried because he had lost before a few times and he lost to Max on their first fight in my opinion.
But these fighters talking like jaw doesnt heal that quick, he got hit into top of his head, not a jaw, its a head trauma, anyways i still believe he shouldve waited atleast ufc 300 and get into insane shape and properly recover(would be 6+ months after the Makhachev bout)
