@robertsandel8627 i thought about it but wasn't a car I'm buying or detailing so kept the attention on the cars I will be working on and detailing. I appreciate your feedback and glad you liked the video! 🙏
Most Eagles came with the 258 I-6 and a 3 speed torqueflight automatic like the 999 or 904. Watch for subframe rot inside near the engine around where the A arms mount. As far as wheels, XJ and ZJ 15" wheels will bolt up. A new fuel pump, filter and check of the fuel lines (blow the hard lines out from front to back with air pressure and replace the rubber ones). Make sure the transfer case fluid is nice and red with no gray goo traces in it. From one Wagoneer and Eagle owner to another, congrats!
These are great, reliable, fun cars to own. You are so lucky to have the "limited" leather interior! A great find at a fantastic price. Easy to work on too!
In 2010 I bought a 1985 Eagle wagon with about 120k on it. Blue with fake wood grain all over it. Did a few upgrades on the 258. Header, exhaust, intake and a Motorcraft 2150 on it. Found some Mint Cherokee gold snowflake wheels I had refinished and All terrains on it as well. Converted the Vacuum 4x4 over to A PTO cable setup that worked great. It was such a fun car to drive and had a Mint interior. At the time the Online Eagle community was super toxic and the AMC forums couldn't care less unless the AMC was 74 on down. Kinda had the same experience with a 76 Gremlin that I had built a few years before. Only saving grace with it was the 401 I had shoehorned into it. I sold the Eagle after being chased down by a young couple that wanted it pretty bad and ended up selling it that weekend to them. Ive owned Jeep Cj's for 35+ but I've steered away from AMC cars for a bit. Ended up Building a 88 Pontiac GT with a 3800SC shortly after selling the Eagle. I'll Probably end up getting another Eagle wagon at some point. I still have a AMC v8 Swap kit that a guy in Canada made for a while. Might just drag one of the 401's out I have and shoehorn one of them into its for SHits and Giggles. Fun Video to watch. Thanks for Posting it.
Believe me, you want the straight 6. They're rock solid bulletproof, torque up the ass, incredibly easy to work on, parts available everywhere, and the Eagle 4bys are actually gaining in collectability. if I found one relatively complete, no question. AND - keep it original. Clown cars are ridiculous and have no value.
I always had a sweet spot for those! I liked them! I remember back in 1981 my neighbor bought a new one for her daughter! Lucky girl! I was 18 at the time and I couldn’t afford one, or a new car at the time. Hers was blue with black accents! If I were you I’ll try to keep them original!
I'm so glad your restoring the two. My Dad was best friends with the deceased owner. My Dad said the yellow ones carborater is newer but needs new linkage to gas pedal and needs new brake lines. The burgundy one ran good also when you get to that one. The oldsmobile is getting restored by the nephew!
AMC straight 6 is a solid engine. The starter is Ford, the tranny is probably GM. I drove one of these up a ski hill one time... also played chicken on the highway, also got drunk with my cousin. What can I say, I was about 18. It was 1984. Things were different then.
Nice video. I once had an '80 😢AMC Spirit that although it didn't have 4 wheel drive, it frankly was bulletproof. With it's on frame construction I actually jumped it one time with no damage whatsoever. And the bucket seats were the most comfortable seats that I've ever experienced for long trips as well. I'm really looking forward to your next video.
Dude, too funny. Great car , wish you luck with it. Your problem could just be the fuel pump, easy to check by cutting the fuel line and try drawing from a small container.
Everyone seems to be telling you already ... Fuel pump, fuel lines ( clogged ? ), junk in the tank, clogged pickup tube in the tank. Expect to have to replace all rubber lines ... Fuel, brake, radiator, vacuum ... etc. Speaking of vacuum lines ... 4 wheel drive is vacuum motor actuated. Super awesome that you have three of them ... Those vacuum motors were were expensive and hard to come by 20 years ago ... I can just imagine now. Super fun car to drive. I believe mine was a 300CI Ford engine ... Lots of torque and very reliable.
Very rare to see these nowadays, but I'd see these rockin' around all the time in the 90's. Possible fuel pump issue. I'd say disconnect the fuel line and see if any of the old gas comes out. If it does, I'd run all the old gas out of the tank and replace with fresh and throw a new fuel filter on as well. These are gonna be sweet cars when you get them goin' and detailed.
I have a 82 barn find that I brought back from the dead, i just hit 50k miles. I also have a 84 that's saleable but mostly my parts car at this point. Both are super rare with the 5 speed manual transmision. Mine even has the tow package, it's a blast to drive. If you need any help sourcing parts or what parts you need to fix her up. Let me know! It's a parts bin car, lots of common ford, gm , and mopar stuff on these. If you have issues with the power windows, chrysler 5th Avenue fit the rear, and Daewoo power seat motors work for the front. Replace the transfer case seals ASAP. That's what kills these cars. You can get rid of all the emissions garbage by rubbing a weber 38, and gm hei. You can also delete the vacuum garbage and just leave the car in 4wd if that gives you issues. There's a hose clamp mod do to the vacuum actuator in the front dif to keep it locked in. Run the factory tire size with some cool jeep wheels if you want a little style. They will run if you put anything bigger, i got phone dials and general grabbers tires on mine. Shoot me your email if you have any other questions, cheers to joining the eagle family ❤
My dad had an eagle, when I was a kid, it brought back a lot of memories, his was a 2 door straight shift, when he bought the car it had 30,000 miles and was a 1 owner, great car!
Very cool fine I’m right there with you on there one of my favorites and I’ve always would like to have one as well. I don’t blame you for buying all three of them.
Take this from someone who dealt with old vehicles for the first half of his existence: If you pump the gas pedal too many times with a carbureted fuel system, you *will flood it out*. It's not an electronic device; it *mechanical*. If it gets flooded, the only two things you can do is either let it sit for a while or crank it again *while holding the gas pedal to the floor*. Either method will allow the engine to do its main function of pumping air. Yes, any ICE you encounter is essentially an *air pump*. Also, there's probably a nice thick coat of varnish in that old gas tank. It really should be dropped and cleaned out or at least inspected. While you're at it, the carburetor probably has the same varnish in the bowl.
Hey Dane! I really enjoyed this video. Great finds, looks like you will get two cars and some parts. I was disappointed that the beige or gold one was an automatic transmission -although I don't know if they made these with manuals. I am a manual transmission freak, its the only kind of car I buy and they are getting harder to find because Americans are silly people and the auto manufacturers coddle them. You can't even get a truck with a manual. Oh well. Looking forward to the upcoming videos on these cars and can't wait for you to get them on the road. On a personal note, I just want to say your videos are fun to watch and you are such an engaging guy as well as funny. All the best from Philadelphia and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Congrats on the purchase! The fuel may have turned to varnish in the fuel pump sitting that long… or who knows what, at least the carb seems to be doing fine but as others have said a new fuel pump, filters and fresh fuel are all pretty inexpensive things to replace… but man, cool car… put some rally wheels and nubby tires on there…
There is a check valve inside the return fuel hose by the filter. Don't loose it and put it inside the replacement hose. Be sure it faces the right direction as it is a 1 way valve. Without the valve in the return hose the car will never run. Fortunately you have 2 spare valves in the other 2 eagles.
I want that first one....ooh jealous...that is my one of favorite Two tones these Eagles had. (They have a lot of good two tones but) also check out the steering box supports on all of them as well as they rot out behind it but the frames behind the wheel are prone to rotting the most
I’m not even kidding you, I messaged the guy about those and was supposed to go look at them that weekend. I never thought they’d show up in my recommend videos on RUclips. If you want to sell the cream colored one for a reasonable price, I’m interested.
You might want to swap out a fuel pump......im sure thats the issue. Its easy to replace. The wire wheels are valuable to not just eagle owners but for any AMC fan, so dont throw them away!
i had two of these they were both 1984 one blue with 79000 original miles and one brown with 54000 original brown fully loaded with a 258 L engines man i miss them😪 if i money i would buy all three of form you be careful with the door handles they break easy
As long as its have been setting it would be wise to replace the fuel tank and pick up the 258 is a longer stroke version of the 232 which later became the 4.0 ho jeep engine all version are insanely reliable fun fact the eagle/ hornet platform was also the basis for the xj Cherokee platform after a extensive rework of course .
Dane : I am with you, I always loved the AMC Eagles. You are not correct though. Subaru was making 4 wheel drive cares, at that time. They were not all wheel drive then. Great price for the cars. I will keep on watching to to how it all goes. Peace
The tan hood had a hump along the right fender when it was on the maroon car. When you swapped it to the tan car, is the hump still there along the top edge of the right fender? Or was the issue with the maroon cars right fender? I am familiar with all three of these cars. I was in contact with the owner about them too.
Was keeping an eye on his old Eagles on Facebook marketplace makes me wonder what part of Michigan are you living in that you can get to Traverse City so quickly I myself I am way up here in Marquette County
If it is out of gas, put gas in the tank...if it doesnt start check the fuel pump and filter. If it has old gas in the tank, you will need to remove it
That's great that it momentarily ran but why chance it with that old gas? Also, you didn't mention it but I'm guessing you checked the carb to make sure the floats weren't sticking, the jets weren't clogged, and the linkage isn't froze up. All in all, a very cool old Eagle my man. I'm restoring an Eagle myself, but it's a Talon tsi. Lol
I always liked these wagons I don't think the offered them with the V8. The Eagle has its roots way back to the Hornet keep that in mind when sourcing parts. AMC was great at recycling there products just change the name and trim. Good luck. Do yourself a favor when they sit that long never trust the old gas hook the gas line to a can of fresh gas and flush out the old.
Put sound heat deadner on floors with ACC new carpet and a candy apple flake paint job all new suspension upgrade all lights to LED bulbs upgrade radio and speakers this is and could be the best build on RUclips the 2x4 was the 2door one with the wing on back please spend some money to get this car back in the spot light American Motors Deserve this type of Rebuild
love the eagles always wanted on never could afford one i had the concord toughest damn car ever owned like a tank eventuly engine blew up didnt know jack about fixen cars my best friend did he helped me rebuild engine
Там бак наверно ржавый за годы . Даже если залить бензин оно грязью забьет все от насоса до фильтра и карбюратора. Запустить мотор надо на бутылке или канистре😊
Somebody needs to. Hellcat swap one of those eagles. There just a wagon body version of the jeep Cherokee classic. You can swap a bunch of parts off a cherokee on to that car.
You probably need a new fuel pump or check the fuel pump make sure it's pumping enough and then you're going to have to go to the gas tank see what kind of gas is in there if it's bad drain it out start all over again flush the lines and then you should have good fuel and you should be good to go
@ Thank you so much . I live in Clare and have a Home Depot in Mount Pleasant. Haul the Amish so we drive a lot of dirt roads so was impressed with that power sprayer you was using . Thanks again & love watching your videos
I just want to let you know those car's have problems with the transfer, They break down all the time, A shop I worked at had a repeat customer, There is one just like the yellow one in the garage is at a friends shop down the road from me, it's there more than he drives it, If I remember there's aluminum gears that should have been made out of steel, Maybe you will get lucky
It worries me that a younger man has them. I'm sorry but these were such unique cars and need to be preserved in original condition. AMC's were always low production compared to the big three. It has often been said that GM lost more cars through the cracks than AMC produced. Also, just because they are AWD they were not intended to be off road cars. AMC advertised them as foul weather on road cars to get you safely to your destination in snow and rainy conditions. Please take good care of them they deserve it.
@scrambler69-xk3kv i appreciate your concern but can assure you the cars are in good hands! For the price they were, and how soon they needed them gone it could have gone into some really bad hands. I plan to take the 2 that are in good condition and have them back on the road and in best condition they can be in. The gold one i will keep indoors all to most it's life along with others of my Collection. It will be kept original but still be driven like it should, along with all the others. I appreciate the comment and hope you can rest easy knowing the cars will be in good hands 🙌
Thanks For Watching! 🙏
What did you think of the video? Back to details next week! 🚘💕
@@DetailDane Loved the video but would have loved to see the Oldsmobile sitting in the garage
@robertsandel8627 i thought about it but wasn't a car I'm buying or detailing so kept the attention on the cars I will be working on and detailing. I appreciate your feedback and glad you liked the video! 🙏
Please say you’ll paint the bumper the same orange as the trim on the gold eagle
I love how you can tell an entire story within 23 minutes. It’s so appreciated by my neurodivergent mind. Liked and subscribed!
Love the Oldsmobile beside it in the garage
The Cutless was in awesome condition but they are keeping that one unfortunately or I'd be loading that up too! 😂
Most Eagles came with the 258 I-6 and a 3 speed torqueflight automatic like the 999 or 904. Watch for subframe rot inside near the engine around where the A arms mount. Check the fuel pump because it’s not pumping fuel to the engine, and you’ll probably want to drain the gas tank and put fresh gas in it
That was my next thought to drain the tank, new fuel pump, and change out the filter. Ran good when gas was in it. I appreciate the feedback 💪
The car's been sitting a long time he needs to go through the whole fuel system before he starts trying to pump gas through the f****** engine
Plus the fuel filter...
These are great, reliable, fun cars to own. You are so lucky to have the "limited" leather interior! A great find at a fantastic price. Easy to work on too!

The gas by now is varnish you better off making a 78 RPM album of what's left in the tank haha
Drop gas tank, replace fuel pump and filter. She'll fire right up. I love them eagles too.

I can't wait to see that Eagle getting detailed. Make it a long video please. What a sweet car that is!
I had an Eagle 4 door sedan, in brown of course, in the '90's. it was a great highway car.
Another fun one Dane. I'm anxious to see her detailed!
Love the finds, can't wait to see what they look like all dolled up.
I'm so glad your restoring the two. My Dad was best friends with the deceased owner. My Dad said the yellow ones carborater is newer but needs new linkage to gas pedal and needs new brake lines. The burgundy one ran good also when you get to that one.

The burgundy Eagle has the air shock/air compressor….thats rare. Be sure to keep it.

I'm now deeply invested in these Eagles!
I love these car/truck/suvs! My grandma had several of them when I was growing up. I learned to drive a manual on one of these!

They are super cool being the first cars with 4 wheel drive! Pretty much a Jeep Sedan! I appreciate you for understanding my car addiction 🙏😂
I have a 87 eagle and I love my mine!!!
Take this from someone who dealt with old vehicles for the first half of his existence:

I've always wanted one too! I really liked the SX4's!
Yeah the SX/4 would be awesome to have! I'm on the lookout for one 👀
Great video Dane, great car i had one and it hurt. In a fire love the video great job👍
The fuel pump will be on the block.NOT THE TANK. Best of luck. You've got this!
Just FYI, AMC didn't put any V8s in their cars after 1979. Glad to see someone who loves these cars too snd wants to save them!
Hey Dane! I really enjoyed this video. Great finds, looks like you will get two cars and some parts. one of the best car ever
I agree with that statement 🔥
There is a check valve inside the return fuel hose by the filter. Don't loose it and put it inside the replacement hose. Be sure it faces the right direction as it is a 1 way valve. Without the valve in the return hose the car will never run. Fortunately you have 2 spare valves in the other 2 eagles.
Nice job sir Nice AMC Nice show sir 😃👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
I want that first one....ooh jealous...that is my one of favorite Two tones these Eagles had. (They have a lot of good two tones but) also check out the steering box supports on all of them as well as they rot out behind it but the frames behind the wheel are prone to rotting the most
But that red one needs the front bumper caps but it looks quite good
I’m not even kidding you, I messaged the guy about those and was supposed to go look at them that weekend. I never thought they’d show up in my recommend videos on RUclips. If you want to sell the cream colored one for a reasonable price, I’m interested.
Subaru had part-time four-wheel-drive with the lever next to the park and brake handle. But you're right it was rather rare in a sedan
You might want to swap out a fuel pump......im sure thats the issue. Its easy to replace. The wire wheels are valuable to not just eagle owners but for any AMC fan, so dont throw them away!
i had two of these they were both 1984 one blue with 79000 original miles and one brown with 54000 original brown fully loaded with a 258 L engines man i miss them😪
if i money i would buy all three of form you
be careful with the door handles they break easy
We had a green one with the panel siding and I loved it
As long as its have been setting it would be wise to replace the fuel tank and pick up the 258 is a longer stroke version of the 232 which later became the 4.0 ho jeep engine all version are insanely reliable fun fact the eagle/ hornet platform was also the basis for the xj Cherokee platform after a extensive rework of course .
the four-wheel drive system works off of vacuum and I would check for spark and check the fuel pump and filter
Dane : I am with you, I always loved the AMC Eagles. You are not correct though. Subaru was making 4 wheel drive cares, at that time. They were not all wheel drive then. Great price for the cars. I will keep on watching to to how it all goes. Peace
Loved AMC eagles because of the all wheel drive, and all were undercoated at the factory
My grandparents bought a 4 door Concord DL too. Talk about a comfortable ride
Your '84 two tone is the twin to mine!
The tan hood had a hump along the right fender when it was on the maroon car. When you swapped it to the tan car, is the hump still there along the top edge of the right fender? Or was the issue with the maroon cars right fender? I am familiar with all three of these cars. I was in contact with the owner about them too.
Was keeping an eye on his old Eagles on Facebook marketplace makes me wonder what part of Michigan are you living in that you can get to Traverse City so quickly I myself I am way up here in Marquette County
struggled with those hoods. you don't weigh enough! haha
Rust-Oleum from the factory, a guy at work had a 84 drive it at least once a week in the mid late 90's. Not a rust spot on it
Nice find
If it is out of gas, put gas in the tank...if it doesnt start check the fuel pump and filter. If it has old gas in the tank, you will need to remove it
It could be the Fuel line, pump and or filter
That's great that it momentarily ran but why chance it with that old gas? Also, you didn't mention it but I'm guessing you checked the carb to make sure the floats weren't sticking, the jets weren't clogged, and the linkage isn't froze up. All in all, a very cool old Eagle my man. I'm restoring an Eagle myself, but it's a Talon tsi. Lol
Fresh gas new fuel pump and fuel filter that little six is going to run like a champ
U buy old 3 egel bro nice u now transform this car
I cringed at the thought of starting it with 13 year old gas in the tank. If you want to destroy the carb do this.
I had one. It was a great car.
As suggested.....Fuel pump, filters, drain old gas.
Awesome work. Reach out to Dalton at Pole Barn Garage. He did a video series on one of these.
I was done with this video after the statement “ ever since high school I always wanted one”. 😂😂😂😂😂
I love these cars
Fuel filter and fuel pump change the gas or try 2 bottles of dry gas
Put sound heat deadner on floors with ACC new carpet and a candy apple flake paint job all new suspension upgrade all lights to LED bulbs upgrade radio and speakers this is and could be the best build on RUclips the 2x4 was the 2door one with the wing on back please spend some money to get this car back in the spot light American Motors Deserve this type of Rebuild

You might want to keep in mind, that the diagram for the vacuum hoses for front wheel drive is under the hood by radiator.
Там бак наверно ржавый за годы . Даже если залить бензин оно грязью забьет все от насоса до фильтра и карбюратора.
Запустить мотор надо на бутылке или канистре😊
My grandpa had one of these years and years ago, it was neat but these things are THIRSTY. They will drink gas down as quick as you let them
Somebody needs to. Hellcat swap one of those eagles.
There just a wagon body version of the jeep Cherokee classic. You can swap a bunch of parts off a cherokee on to that car.
The one under the lean-to says 1985 on the plate. What's the backstory on it? And why did the owner buy three of them?
Maybe you can make a 'will it run?' collaboration with Davin from Hagerty for starting the engine 😉.
It's in the talks 👀 they are only 10 minutes from my shop too! 😎
You probably need a new fuel pump or check the fuel pump make sure it's pumping enough and then you're going to have to go to the gas tank see what kind of gas is in there if it's bad drain it out start all over again flush the lines and then you should have good fuel and you should be good to go
Fuel lines may be clogged.
All cars came with a jack from the factory. Out of 3 cars one shuold have had one.
We need a new video asap!
Online filter or leveling bob in tank is why no gas
Fuel pump?
Where can I find or get the washer you use to clean the underside of the cars you use ?

@ Thank you so much . I live in Clare and have a Home Depot in Mount Pleasant. Haul the Amish so we drive a lot of dirt roads so was impressed with that power sprayer you was using . Thanks again & love watching your videos

I wish. AMC EAGLE is hard to find
I just want to let you know those car's have problems with the transfer, They break down all the time, A shop I worked at had a repeat customer, There is one just like the yellow one in the garage is at a friends shop down the road from me, it's there more than he drives it, If I remember there's aluminum gears that should have been made out of steel, Maybe you will get lucky
if you need help getting these running I can help you I live in melvindale Michigan just outside Detroit
👍👍👍
When I saw these in the ad I was wondering if you might need a chainsaw to get that silver car out.
Too bad you didn’t get the Oldsmobile and just leave the silver one.
AMC EAGLES station wagon
Smell the dipstick. It likely smells like gas. The rubber diaphragm in the Fuel Pump will break down and send gas into the oil, losing fuel pressure.
try the fuel pump
Check fuel pump tank
We know what is the part a car now
You're trying to petrified gas ⛽
