  • Welcome to my deep dive into the evolving landscape of home buying! In this video, I take a unique, data-driven approach to explore one of today's most pressing questions: Is it harder to buy a home now compared to previous years (1967-2022)? Join me as I dissect trends in rising home prices and stagnant wage growth, topics that have been widely discussed on social media and beyond.
    My journey begins in 1967 and travels through decades of housing market shifts, economic changes, and social transformations. Focusing on objective data analysis, I aim to provide a clear, comprehensive view of how the ease of purchasing a home has evolved over time. Whether you're a first-time homebuyer, a real estate enthusiast, or just curious about the changing dynamics of the housing market, this video offers valuable insights and thought-provoking perspectives.
    Stay tuned as I navigate through historical data, current trends, and expert analyses to answer the critical question: Has buying a home become more challenging over the years? I like how the one person who actually researches their arguments is met with “tldr” comments lol. Goes to show not everyone truly wants the truth. Keep it up.

    That's all well and good and US centric, here in Australia, the median home price is 1.3M in my city. I'm a Doctor and all I can afford to buy (which I did) is an apartment. Tell me how it makes sense that boomer cleaners and unskilled workers are living in houses much more expensive than I as a millenial Doctor can afford? My income is also in the 1% of income earners in Australia yet I stil can't afford a reasonable home here.

      Hi there! Thanks so much for the comment. I cannot speak on Australia as I have not done any analysis there. This is a very interesting phenomenon. It would be interesting to take a look a the data here to understand why that might be. If I get a chance, in the future I will try to find that data and do an analysis. Which city specifically are you talking about?

    • @KenzoTenmaM
      @KenzoTenmaM 7 месяцев назад

      @@TheDataDaddi it would be interesting to see. I live in Sydney. For context the small apartment 2 bedroom I bought was 1.1million.

      Got it. Thanks for that context. I will see if I can find some reliable data. It would be interesting to do that for many major cities across the world of different sizes to see how things compare across not only by country but also city size as well. Appreciate the idea and also the real data from your own life. I think that also really helps to put things into perspective. @@KenzoTenmaM

    I’m lazy, I would have just let power query calculate the statistics. There’s a button for median. Lol

    Glad to see that once again Gen X is ignored.

    • @TheDataDaddi
      @TheDataDaddi  7 месяцев назад

      Hi there. Thank you for the feedback! I certainly did not mean to make it looks as though Gen X was ignored. I simply did not have enough space on in the title or on the thumbnail design to include all the generational names. These 3 seemed to be the main focus of other similar analyses so I included those for easy recognition. However, in the video, I cover 1967 onward which would cover the applicable period for the Gen Xers. In the future, I will make sure to be more explicit about all applicable generational groups. Thank you again for pointing that out. I really to appreciate any and all feedback!

    When you say median income is it individual income or household income?

    • @TheDataDaddi
      @TheDataDaddi  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hi there. Thanks for the question! I just double checked, and it is household income.

    • @jfhucka1
      @jfhucka1 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheDataDaddi that is interesting. If you do it by individual do we see a starkly different picture? I am a little curious if it is true that having two incomes is much more common today than back then, do we generally need to have two incomes to get a house today whereas with the generation previous we only needed one?

    • @TheDataDaddi
      @TheDataDaddi  7 месяцев назад +2

      That is a great point! I will go back and check to see if that data is available, and if it is I will go back, add it in, and let you know the results. My initial guess though is you intuition is likely correct. Thanks again for your comment and the insight!@@jfhucka1
