All of your videos are wonderful, but this selection and breakdown was above and beyond. Lots to unpack here. Tons of lessons to be learned. Thank you!
Hi Greg. Love the content. In the "Excessive Time Out" clip. You made the point that we can't ignore a timeout request, even when we have knowledge of it's inappropriateness. Great point. What about what appears to be a foul called by the Trail Official, before the player in black drove to the basket for the game winning score? Did he change his mind? Did his partner waive him off? He's clearly got a fist raised as if he blew his whistle. Am I missing something. John
It looks to me that he was saying "I've got the final shot call." He taps himself on the chest too. They should have pre-gamed that ahead of time so it doesn't look like a foul call or a "stop the clock". It should have been obvious to the crew that he had the last second shot call.
Hey Greg! On fighting play you mention were 2 personal fouls before the double Tech, I believe official called player control foul on white and pointed going other way before fight broke out as white player clearly doled out the significant initial blows before the whistle. Everything else you discussed on this play is spot on but did see good reminder for proactive game management as we should be quick to close down initially on a foul like this as it possibly could of prevented the Technical/ejections. Have a terrific week :)
What makes the Ruling in #1 even worse, is that the ball will start with Black and the Alternating Possession Arrow will point towards Black. So Black essentially earns two possessions, while White should have started the Game with the Basketball. Getting the call right is most important. I love that you said that the Crew should have stepped in to correct the calling official. Big play on the first play of the Game!!
Greg, on the first play, the crew did get the call wrong as no possession was ever established to cause a backcourt violation. Watching the video a little longer, the throw in official does not have the throw in spot correct. Although he is only off about 6 or 7 feet, it is still not at the predetermined throw in spot as required by NFHS. Just something I noticed.
This is why I never ask how many time outs a team has, and look away if the table attempts to tell me. You might hold a whistle if you know. Not your job...
2nd play: Is the foul called on W1 or W25? You mentioned "player is held", so I'm assuming it's on W25. W1 beats B13 to the spot and falls because W1 is bigger and B13 bounces off of him.
Id disagree on the excessive timeout play. There’s going to be about a second left when the TO is acknowledged and the last thing I want to do is allow a player or team to benefit from breaking the rules (reminds me of the 1976 NBA finals). Allowing that second to run off without granting a timeout the other team doesnt have is right imo. Edit to add: if there was more time to the point where i as a ref couldnt get away with it of course then id call it. But a second and a half? Idk

Awesome, thank you!
Excellent vid, Greg! Great plays to review and I enjoy your commentary!👍👍👍
Appreciate the feedback!

I was wondering the same thing. Not sure what trail had on that. I guess as long as he didn't blow his whistle... play on?

@@powerjava6075That would make.sense. It just looked like a fist in the air to me instead of a finger☝️ like I've seen/done before.

19:14 can you further explain why this should have been a back court violation please? It looked like green had tipped it towards their front court
White had team control and frontcourt status. Whaite batted the ball into the backcourt and was first to touch.

Maybe so, but you are required to inform the coach when the team has zero timeouts remaining
Where does it say that? That’s what assistant coaches are for…
. 2-7-ART. 12 ... Notifying the head coach when a team is granted its final allowable time-out.
Right, after the table notifies you they are out of timeouts . Doesn’t say anything about telling them how many are remaining. 1,2,3 etc
Nor do you/I need to know. Might hold a whistle
On the shot clock violation, what did the officials eventually rule?
Shot clock violation.
Missed the push off on the inbounds pass by no. 22

Official appears to use just one hand to report so I'm assuming on #1
