There is a point where you have to say enough is enough. This is why i haven't started up with a service like this, because i know that i don't have the room in my house or my budget for games that don't mean anything to me. Nothing against the companies, it's all on me.
Agreed, It was great when I started collecting heavy again but that time has passed. I want quality, stuff that I will have a desire to play not stuff I am forcing myself to. Thanks for checking out the vid buddy.
I feel ya. I've even stopped watching monthly unboxing vids from other collectors lately. No one seems to get anything good. All garbage choices and disappointments. It was fun for a while I suppose.
Yeah, it was fun for a bit. Now the boxes are SH...ure not worth it. lol I have stopped watching unboxing vids as well except the people that I follow and watch most of their vids. Got to show support.
The family unboxing was what kept me in so long. I'd much rather take the money to the local retro shop and pick up some games I or the family want to play.
I never subscribed to any of these services. I refuse to buy just disc only games and crappy cases. I've seen A LOT of junk in these videos so I like to currate my collection with my own tastes. Proud of you for kicking it to the curb!
Yeah, you get a mess of games and some of them are a literal mess. I've gotten games that didn't work, had physical damage to a disc, some that obviously hadn't been checked, and more. I'm working on curating the collection now.
I totally feel you, Owaz. I'm really thinking next month will be my last as well. The pulls have not been great at all, and I have been seeing less from the consoles I want games for. One of my biggest complaints is having to keep up with what they send. Life is too busy for that. Plus, I hate the limit of 200 games per system be for you have to send them a spreadsheet for each system... it's the reason I stopped making those VGM videos. I could use that money for other things. Great points, Owaz.
Yeah, not checking off the games they sent seemed odd. RGT did that. You would think it would benefit them not to send the same game but if it is a crappy game I guess it doesn't matter. The 200 limit seemed odd too. I just took the console off the list once I hit that. Now I don't have to worry about it at all. Thanks, bud!
I do miss the aspect of filming and recording the unboxing and then making the video but I agree with you. I worked out a deal with VGM where I would pay for the ten game pack and they would send me a couple of games that would meet that monetary threshold but at that point I was like I may as well use that $80 or $100 to buy what I want. Too much filler from these boxes and they really don't leave much to get excited about as far as gameplay goes
I do miss that part as well. Putting the money aside and just grabbing the games you want is better once you hit the no or less filler stage. I am working on something where the missus and munchkin will pull games off the shelf and get me to guess them. I can share what I know and if I don't know much or anything about the game then maybe it doesn't need to be in the collection. I hope you guys are doing well bud.
I have been doing these for awhile myself just like you have and I think every point you made is 100% valid and accurate. Some thoughts from my own experience though, I kinda feel like there are better values in certain systems. Also it’s a great way if your new to collecting to get some games to start off with. And in cases like mine where I am chasing a couple of sets these services do well in helping fill out a lot of common titles. That being said. You can easily spend the same money and hand pick games that fit your individual taste much better and will be a lot more fun. Well thought out my friend. Can’t wait to see what you spend your money on now! 🍻🤙🏻
The number of systems and specific systems can definitely make a difference. I had GC from the start and got some decent stuff at the start. As GC started to pick up in popularity got less and less good stuff. I also got some good stuff for the Dreamcast. It really can help to get some of the common titles and I would say the service was better the first year or so. Money going to car repairs after that who knows? lol. Thanks for checking it out buddy.
@pappabeargaming Yeah, it really doesn't seem like it would be difficult to add an extra game or two to get the game value up. Even with extras, they can't seem to get there lately.
Is the sign in the back on sale for $500 lol. Its about time, they have sent crap. Like its all general and that box of games that you got from VGM they off loaded sports.
Good video. Your reasoning is why I never got into vgm. It’s cool but I just want games I want to play not a bunch of crap I’ll never touch. If I could choose what I wanted exactly or was interested in and that’s what I got might be different
You can send them a wishlist but you would have to have hundreds of games on the list to include all price ranges. Thanks for checking out the video buddy.
Finally... my retro brother has woken up! Most retro monthly boxes just send 90% crap. Many people enjoy them and it's their right. I won't ever subscribe to them.
The boxes were pretty good for a bit but now there just isn't a reason to keep a sub going. I probably would have stopped some time ago but we had fun doing the videos as a family.

"It's kind of like Christmas, you don't know what you're going to get... but..." it's like a present from grandma. 😅
Pretty much!
It's a great way of putting it.
Hope you are doing well buddy.
One thing I've learned about companies is it never gets better the longer you pay them/ have their service
Yeah, your value goes down as a customer the longer you are on the hook.
That makes sense. That's the main reason I never done those boxes. Plus I have plenty of game stores that are local to me.
The family unboxing was what kept me in so long. I'd much rather take the money to the local retro shop and pick up some games I or the family want to play.

The end of an era... But we understand where you're coming from. Now it's time to see what you personally curate for the collection!😊
Aye, time to slim and trim the collection.
You got all the loot.
Time to scoot!
the loot was poot.

Thank you for your honest view. I need to follow your example 😮
You getting some loot boxes?
@@Owazrim no buying games I don’t need - collecting is wild it can get out of control
@@emsemtsemsemts4707 yup. It can get out of hand really easy, unfortunately.
@@Owazrim then I bought a Dreamcast 😝
@@emsemtsemsemts4707 Just another out of hand oppertunity.

Yeah, but not a loot box. lol
@@Owazrim LOL, yup.
Very good points, I’ve been disappointed with VGM recently. I’m seriously considering cutting them. Value and gameplay value both went way down!

Nope. 500 subs. I was about to hit record for the vid and realized I hadn't updated so I went old school.
