I think this is the episode where Patrick has the most moments where he is suddenly smart and he even uses more logic than SpongeBob does in this episode
The artist is played by Doug Lawrence, one of the main writers on the show and he voices the characters of Sheldon J. Plankton, Potty the Parrot (starting in season 10), Earl (from Squirrel Record), Fred, and Larry the Lobster.
Fred is the fish infamously known for saying "My Leg!!!!" There's an episode in Season 11 that's called "My Leg!!!"that's worth a reaction. Also, Doug Lawrence is the voice of Tony Fast Jr. in "The Hot Shot" and the Highway Patrol Officer in "Bumper to Bumper". He's also the director of the series and made his debut as a writer in the Season 1 episode "Tea at the Treedome".
The artist you see at the beginning and end of the episode is the voice of Plankton and Larry The Lobster. His name is Doug Lawrence, and he also works on some episodes of the show too. Also, it isn’t possible for pencils to sink to the bottom of the water. They would just simply float. Plus, Frankendoodle was one crazy, creepy drawing. 😆
DoodleBob appears once more in the episode "The Doodle Dimension". He also returned as the main villain of the video game "Drawn to Life: SpongeBob Edition".
Trivia: The live-action "artist" was the regular voice actor of Plankton and some other side characters, similar to how Patchy the Pirate is SpongeBob's voice actor. It's always funny seeing the show's cast perform in live-action.
Doodlebob appears again in an episode of Spongebob squarepants called "Doodle Dimension" its in Season 11. He returns bigger and badder but in a blank Dimension where everything that is drawn comes to life and its visited by Spongebob and Patrick through Sandy's Portal machine. The episode is like a follow up to "Frankendoodle".
Not sure if it's really him, but the artist at sea is voiced by Mr. Lawrence, or Doug Lawrence. Not only is he one of the writers, but he also voices Plankton, and Larry the Lobster, and Fred.
Hey Brandon you gotta give Doodlebob credit for using the bathroom and flushing, then he went up to SpongeBob 😂 and I think we all need to chip in to pay for Squidwards window and for SpongeBob’s house😂
Fun fact. The Artist at Sea is actually Mr. Lawrence, the voice of Plankton, Larry the Lobster and Fred the MY LEG! guy, and a writer for the Spongebob shows.
I love how Squidward was standing outside in the middle of the night for no apparent reason just so they could have SpongeBob accidentally hit him with his half of the pencil.
I think you didn't find it scary because you're an adult. But for little kids, this episode can be pretty scary. Inanimate objects coming to life and hurting people is a pretty common irrational fear for a lot of kids. Dolls, drawings, loud machinery, etc.
I was a little kid when I first saw this and I wasn't scared whatsoever. It's less about what stuff they show on TV that's bad or scary, and more about how they execute that stuff if they convey it in a way that makes it feel as scary or potentially creepy as it in hindsight is or isn't but made out that way regardless. Actually, I would argue lots of kids like the idea of inanimate objects coming to life, so much so that many would treat them turning bad like they would towards any bad kid or ill-behaved animal. It's even kinda common for little kids to think they could do that because they are very imaginative.
@@william3100 I think it depends on the media kids watch that determine whether or not kids are afraid of things coming to life. When I was a kid, I loved "Toy Story," but I also watched "Goosebumps" (the slappy episode) "Small Soldiers" and "Chuckie". So, I always wondered if my toys were to come to life, would they love me or try to kill me? In my mind, I never saw my toys as children or pets that I could raise to be good. They were adults right out of the box, lacking the same amount of empathy a human or animal would have. Every time I dropped or broke a toy, I felt like my days were numbered. This SpongeBob episode didn't scare me though.
@nonyabusiness3619 true, but usually, things like the Frandoodle episode aren't scary to many kids. Some I guess could be scared, but that probably has a bit more to do with what's going on with that particular child than Frankendoodle actually being a bit disturbing for young kids. I also meant "kids" as in the people they know on their level and in a kid-centric view of things. When you're young, any bad people you imagine aren't like how bad adults could be with things like homicides, rape, sexual assault, genocide, etc. It's a bit more tame and simple. However, just like adults, they anthropomorphize things, but WAY more so. If there is some plant or object you like or seems appealing to you, you talk to it like a person and at times think it might even be alive, and usually they imagine something normal or good or controllable. So, if a toy really did come to life, many of them might not be too scared unless if they are hostile.
The part that always makes me laugh over and over again is when doodle erases SpongeBob line bottom. Another scary episode that you could see is wormy.

It’s a great episode and I highly recommend it, either for the month of April or sooner!

These episodes I STRONGLY recommend to anyone watching through Spongebob for the first time -- these are probably some of the best episodes of the series! But not to hype them up too much... I hope this helps. As an artist, you are sometimes told to hold a pencil differently to help push yourself from the norm or avoid getting too comfortable. When you are uncomfortable, you stop questioning so much and gain confidence in the lines or strokes you make. There are three different unusual ways to hold the pencil, so it is not too familiar for anyone who took an art class but more common for people who study.
"Each work of art is like a child and must be treated as such." There is a truth to that. There's a character in my favorite video game Persona 5 who acts very eccentric and is passionate about art and drawing.
I am an actual artist myself who learned to make art back in Highschool and college. I make my own fanart or ocs for my public page. As a kid u think making drawings to life is magical and fun. Realistically as an adult you question yourself if this is some kind of witchcraft or if the drawings are possessed.
This is another classic episode- you have no idea how many people make doodlebob noises as a joke Also I don't know if you noticed, but when Patrick said "he still looks kinda creepy", he was actually looking at a picture of Spongebob next to the Doodlebob paper
Yeah, you're right about Patrick. When he was accidentally insulting SpongeBob, he got embarrassed and corrected himself. Where later seasons, he would not even know or maybe even not cared that he did. At least here he was aware that he basically insulted SpongeBob, which is funny and so is SpongeBob's reaction. Patrick is legitimately smart and nice here Another episode I would recommend is "Krusty Towers", "Shanghaied", "Single Cell Anniversary", "Inside Job" and "Opposite Day". Also, for non-SpongeBob content, please "Young Sheldon" because it's set in a high school for the most part, "Matilda", "Bluey" and also "Wonder".
Wow, a SpongeBob episode before Friday? This was a pleasant surprise! Edit: Hey, Brandon. What are your top 3 favorite SpongeBob characters if you have any?
In the future, could you take a look at the episode "Patty Hype"? It's where Mr. Krabs needs an idea to bring customers back but rejects SpongeBob's pretty patties as they are just recolors. But when SpongeBob opens a business for them, it becomes a hit business.
Actually, I think Spongebob does like pranks. There are even some episodes about it (though I can't remember the episode titles). But like you said, he mostly likes more harmless pranks. (I just really like the "You what!?" line from one of those episodes, lol.)
This episode is a classic and a pretty fun episode. It kind of reminds me of Harold and The Purple Crayon. I like all that stuff Spongebob drew for himself. The new bedframe, the coocoo clock, the crown for Gary, etc. Also it's pretty impressive that a drawing of a hand that had the rest of its body erased including its brain could find its way back to the pencil and completely redraw itself lol. Sure it's been said before, but this could also be reminiscent of those old looney tunes cartoons with Daffy Duck or Bugs Bunny being annoyed and fooled with by the unseen animator
Can’t say for everyone but from experience I can say while not an invalid form of drawing, the way the artist held the pencil scribbling on the paper in that style is not common. Based on how he held it, that will get you broad strokes. In a drawing exercise, I can imagine it has some use. Logically I’d say he was just passionate in the moment, but logic doesn’t always apply to SpongeBob.
It’s funny seeing plankton’s voice actor break down like that because even though plankton doesn’t show up in this episode it’s in character for him
22:07 When Patrick calls the doodle creepy, he is looking at the photo of SpongeBob instead of the doodle bob lmao
