    Thanks for the very clear instruction for threading the bobbin. There are many videos on it, but yours is the best at explaining it.

    Hi! Thank you for this video . My mother in law passed away in 1994 and she owned a Singer 401A model . That she bought when they came out . I started watching your video and it helped me tremendously. Her machine was frozen shut . Someone used WD 40 and it was locked up so badly . I bought the Krudd kutter to clean this machine nicely . I have to say Thank you it is working so awesomely. This machine is so smooth it’s like a driving a Cadillac.

      You're welcome. Family machines are the best! I'm glad the KK worked for you and interestingly, Model 401A is often called the "Cadillac" of vintage Singer Machines, so it sounds like you have a real winner there. Happy sewing.

      www.singer.com/search/support?title=404 the fourth down from the top It includes how to use the controls, basic sewing, how to use all the attachments, cleaning, and oiling. Nicely done in PDF format. Thanks for watching my channel.

    Hi Andy! I cannot thank you enough for your time and patience to make these videos!!! I was completely unknowledgable about sewing when a friend gifted me with an old Swinger 404. I remembered my mother sewing like a pro but had no clue what to do with the machine I was given. I had curtains that needed a hem, needed some new pillow cases for couch pillows and a few other things that needed to be done but I'd put off touching it for eons. Then one day I was sick at home and bored. I got out the machine and learned quickly how to break the thread, bend a needle, gob up a bobbin and smash my thumb with the thumb screw above the needle. After feeling pretty dumb I said out loud "this is much harder than it looks"! I found your videos on youtube and you turned me into a guy who can sew! I LOVE this machine! It runs at my speed and I am sure it can do WAY more than I need it for but it's fantastic to actually do some stuff myself! I must sound like an idiot - but I had NO CLUE sewing could be so much fun! I'd be lost without you -- thanks for showing us how its done!

      You are very welcome and thank you for putting that 404 back in service. What a nice gift (good friend, great machine). It is the perfect machine for a guy who is just learning to sew!
      With its heavy-duty build, it will hurt you before you can hurt it, haha. It is a versatile machine and as you sew more and more and get into crafting you will appreciate that 404's power and ease of use. I really don't sew, but if I did the 404 and 403A would be my go-to machines, that is for sure. Welcome to Andy Tube Rio, thanks for taking the time to comment and please stop by whenever you can.

    Great tutorials Andy, thank you. Can I use the tutorials for the singer 404 for a 404 G13? I fixed the jammed bobbin case from your video, but now the tension is wrong it’s Bunchy and loose underneath.

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  3 года назад

      I'm at a disadvantage when it comes to the 404 g13, or any of the German-made slant-needle machines, as I have never seen any of them in person. My belief, from discussions with a handful of owners, is that yes you can use my 404 videos b/c most of the parts and the way they work are the same.ruclips.net/p/PLsCOZgzzaiKIB4kvIHCfHYuyLMUp5A4UI
      Your 404G has a different bobbin winding system, and a few other parts that are more along the lines of a 500A or 503A, but the main drives and shafts and nose parts seem to be the same as the American made 404. I also have received feedback from owners of your machine that the Service Manual for the American 401a, 403A, 404 models was helpful to them while working on the machine. Here is the same link I gave them for a FREE download of that Service Manual;
      sewingdude.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/singer-401-service-manual1.pdf
      As far as the thread bunching under the fabric, that is a sign that the bobbin thread tension is stronger than the needle thread tension (most common reason) or the needle thread is hanging in the Thread Clearance area: ruclips.net/video/OXKqZp87eN4/видео.html or maybe the Stroke of the Needle Thread Tension Assemble Take-up Spring was not set properly; ruclips.net/video/4Q1dAUHqfvg/видео.html Very rarely the take-up lever was installed incorrectly. ruclips.net/video/6HDHyDnYwKg/видео.html You may not be threading the upper thread properly, or the bobbin case could have a dirty tension spring or have too much tension on it; ruclips.net/video/HT5XZ5eYYEQ/видео.html Over the years I have found that a good cleaning and oiling can eliminate most of the weird stitching problems on the vintage machine I have worked on. If not and I need to start making adjustments at least I am working with a clean machine. Most people who communicated with me as the owner of a German Slant-Needle machine were very happy with them, so congrats to you, and thanks for watching my channel.

    Hi! I have a problem with the dark clip that holds the bobbin case in place. Mine has no tension on it at all, it appears to not be attached at the end that is inside the machine. Do you have any ideas about how to reconnect this? Thanks for your videos!

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  5 лет назад

      Your diagnosis is correct. The end is not "attaching" inside the bed. There is a retaining spring inside that you have to slide the bracket tip under. This video will set you up and then you will fix it in one minute. ruclips.net/video/Vvo0ZNjdPRU/видео.html Thanks for watching my channel.

      Tengo un video sobre la instalación de todas las piezas en esa área, incluida la caja de la bobina: ruclips.net/video/Vvo0ZNjdPRU/видео.html Me gusta tanto este modelo que hice más de 50 videos sobre todas las piezas y la limpieza y ajuste de la máquina. Hi Andy,
    I have singer 201k and when i try to sew something it keep breaking thread and skip stitches can you please upload any video for fix this problem so i can do it at home.
    Thank you 😊

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  5 лет назад

      Sorry, can't do that. I do not have a model 201 BUT starting on page 45 of the service and adjusters manual for the 201 there are instructions for setting the timing. (maybe the cause of skipped stitches) The 72-page manual if full of info about adjusting, removing and replacing parts, tension repair, electrical info, well you get the idea right? You can download a FREE pdf copy of the original manual here:
      imagespast.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/singer-201-service-adjusters-manual.pdf (did I mention it is FREE?)
      From glancing at the timing info it looked similar to model 99K, which is the only "Black" vintage machine I have worked on. The ply list fo "Cute" is here: ruclips.net/p/PLsCOZgzzaiKIIUgkEujqHc9iNWN9NPW2Z
      BTW, you can also download FREE instruction manuals for the 201/201K machines here:
      www.singer.com/sites/default/files/product_manual/SINGER%20201_201-1_201-2_201-3_201-4%20and%201200-1%20Sewing%20Machines.pdf and here: www.singer.com/sites/default/files/product_manual/SINGER%2015K_66K_201K_99K_185K_327K_328K_329K%20and%20404K%20Sewing%20Machines.pdf
      In case you want to check you are operating the machine correctly. Good Luck and thanks for watching my channel.
