Casey and crowley are really starting to turn into a mean double act. V good for munster. I can't get over crowleys kicks. He nailed them. Bear in mind there were totally obnoxious winds going on and you can see they all started wide and then just bent with the wind. He has really come along this year.
I was at the game and I thought he had stepped into touch before he kicked it and must have stepped in touch before he grounded it. Remarkable effort to keep the ball alive. The replay on the big scrren brought audible gasps
For all the doom and gloom, hearing that theme tune, with the cold out and it bucketing down just before La Rochelle going against Bath... It still does it for me.
The guys from SA Rugby mag made an interesting point this past week. In the days of SR (especially Super 12), you played 11 regular season games, and 2 playoff games. That was it. And I think we got used to thinking of the domestic season as a sprint. But the URC and CC combined is already 22 games, just in the regular season. That’s literally double the amount of games. So if SR was a sprint, where all you needed was 5 internationals on the pitch, and you went hammer and tongues all day, EU rugby is a marathon where squad depth and rotation is more important than 5 (or more) star players. For the coaches, administrators, players, etc. that is a serious mindset change.
To be fair, you guys were playing 16-match regular seasons for a decade (2011-2019). The South African teams have definitely improved depth since joining European competitions with better player retention and players returning from foreign clubs. Thus far, this is the first URC season where they've won more international matches than any other country. Looking at Connacht, Munster and Ulster, I would expect that to continue.
@@JH20132 yeah no, that’s fair. But I think by that point the “mentality” was already there. Additionally you had teams like the Force, Sunwolves, Kings, Sunwolves and (sometimes) Cheetahs. So then you could rest frontline players. I know there are also some sub-par teams in Eu, so not forgetting that. But, it is a lot more challenging. Ps, Im from Cape Town but live in AMS now. The EU winter does not help!
Great to see you back on the telly, Tim, but glad to see you not forgetting us RUclips people either 😂 Some really interesting results - getting a sense already of who the real contenders might be. George Horne is player of the weekend so far for me - that second try was just insane. I did not believe for one second he could have scored it til I saw the slo-mo replay 😧
Toulon taking names, Glasgow flying, Munster on the rebuild. Important day in Richie’s ulster young guns today. Can’t wait for the Leinster game later with Bristol
Toulon went on the field with the aim to hurt and maim. It was just high tackles, very late tackles, elbows and shoulders into unprotected opponents in the rucks, niggles off the ball, etc. Libbok will probably be out for months after that assault.
Tim, I was at kings park in the east stand - full on heat - it was hardcore, but great fun! You’re right about everyone sitting in the opposite stand. That’s what I get for cheaping out on tickets!
Not just the forward pass for the Sharks first try, Nche's clearout in the build up is the most blatant red card you'll see under today's protocols. He was a very lucky boy on Saturday 😂
Yep I saw your hand. Thank goodness the weather died off up in Glasgow as the weather detracted from all the other games. Good display from Glasgow. Gregor should drop Price and play George Horne from now on. Venter once again proved what an asset he is to the squad. Let’s see if Glasgow can get an away win.😊
As a Scottish URC fan Im quite used to watching Premier sports. It has none of the pomp and circumstance of TNT or Sky in their heyday so I was a little dissapointed with the pundits they brought in. English pundits harping on about english sides, because all they see is English rugby. There were exceptions but really - Dellaglio! Premiere sport has done well in the URC at utilising recently retired players and the better analysts so thought the european coverage lost that edge a bit, quite happy though as I didnt need to fork out for another provider. Rugby really has to try encourage an audiance, free to air is always best but at least premiersport is quite affordable.
Exactly Dayglo really should make the effort to watch some URC matches. The URC audience is bigger than the Premiership. At the end of the month you will probably see two 30k crowds for the 1872 Cup now that Glasgow have decided to use Hampden Park.
My girlfriend doesn’t understand my Tim crush either. She finds the whole thing mystifying. I spent ten minutes yesterday telling her why Tim is a rugby community legend and a beautiful human.
South African fans like to boast about how physical their rugby is. But Toulon showed them how physical and high intensity the Top14 is. Every ruck is a battle, every hit aims at destroying, an extremely dense defense, and every mistake is sanctionned by a counter-attack
Hey Tim great vlog as usual. Agree with you that Sharks could have seen at least one more card and pass was forward. No doubt Saracens deserved to win and played conditions much better than the Bulls however really felt the officiating was inconsistent. Timing issue at scrum no warning free kick to Saracens. Then their prop stands up and he gives him a warning. Hands slightly past the ball penalty Saracens. Same thing happens the other way and nothing. Not rolling away penAlty Saracens. Same thing happens the other way and nothing. The worst for me was numerous offsides and Bulls player goes to the bin. Saracens completely offside at virtually every ruck and therefore Bulls getting man and ball almost every time. You can’t generate any momentum or creat any pressure. Not sure he gave one offside penalty against Saracens. killed the game as a contest 🤷♂️. One other thing I’m not sure of the ruling but he calls tackler release and after that Saracens rip ball and manage to recover it. Surely that rule is to allow the team with the ball to recycle otherwise what’s the point
I was hoping that with our inclusion in the URC and Europe, there would be a wave of talent returning to South Africa, but it seems the sums are not that simple. From the Sharks' point of view, homegrown talent like the Du Preez twins, Tristen Tedder, and Jesse Kriel would make a massive difference to the squad. And then you have guys like PSTD and Thomas the Tank (who got their big breaks in Durban despite being produced in Stormers country) who would seriously bolster this squad. Speaking of Stormers, the amount of talent that they let go in a lifetime is eye-watering. Kolbe, de Allende, Willie le Roux, Arendse, Moodie, Dillyn Lyeds, Pollard, Etzebeth, and Grant Williams should all be playing in the blue hoops. But they have become a squad of rejects instead. That shit blows my mind.
@@jameswyatt4443 Still a lot of quality players that could significantly bolster local squads playing abroad. The Stormers have a scrumhalf depth issue, there are a couple of Springboks World Cup winners that could solve that. The Bulls have a flyhalf issue, there are two or three chaps (including a double World Cup winner) abroad that could plug that hole, the starting Springbok midfield is abroad, two starting Springboks wings are abroad, the World Player of the Year is abroad. Just that list alone can change an entire squad's outlook.
While I agree that Quins miss Andre (the only side that wouldn't is the Boks). I don't think that was the issue. In the first half Smith absolutely ran the game with his boot, but the pack was terrible at getting them over the line.
Sharks could not start at home in super rugby ( February start ) , it is just too hot in Durban for any visiter , not actual celsius but the humidity it nuts . I feel sorry for any of the euro teams going away to the Shark tank .
Also, people are looking forward to watching the Sharka vs Bulls game on the 21st of Dec. That's why people didn't show up. Even me I didn't go... and I go to almost every home game.
Om Pollack and the plastic energy... Tim, you're an Englishman and you "kind of like it". Exactly. And South Africans don't. That's all according to script. 😂 Creates wonderful layers of drama. He's sure to get targeted for a few tackles.
Hi, great video! Just wanted to say that I don't agree with the Sharks bench being weak - Grant Williams and Siya masuku are both amazing players and controlled the game even with 12 men. And you have to remember Pepsi Buthelezi and Dylan Richardson had to come on in the first 20 and played really well too. Jason Jenkins replacement lock and Mchunu our bench prop are quality players as well. Obviously anyone coming on for eben (for example) won't be as good because he is one of the best players, but they are still very good.
Howsit. This is Chilli from Cape Town. Love your show. I have a request. Could you give your analysis if the springboks played Kolisi at number 8. What extra options would that give us in the number 6 and 7 positions?
This weekend highlights how tight this comp will be. It's likely the regulars, La Rochelle, Toulouse, Leinster will be there at the pointy end, but there's a lot of rugby to be played. Personally , i wasn't a fan of the red on libboks hit. The 14 was shielding him, penalty, then when libbock catches the ball, he steps off his right foot as a clear change if direction. That's two mitigating factors for me. Yellow maximum. Fyi, I'm a libbock fan and wanted stormers to win, but really dislike how many reds get dished out these days
If Sa teams get a high enough seeding for the quaters etc. are we allowed to have home games for that. Or is it like last year we have "neutral" home grounds in Europe?
last year you would have had home quarter final but the Bulls were not seeded better than Northampton. The "neutral" home (country) rule is effective for the semi final only I think. That rule will most likely have no incidence given the state of South African rugby teams. Stormers probably won't make it out of the group stage. Sharks won't get better than 3rd spot in their pool and Bulls, with a 5-0 loss, are already compromised for a top spot seed. Next game vs Northampton is already crucial but they should go through anyway with the two poorer French sided in their pool. Anyway Home quarter final is highly unlikely, so the semi final rule probably won't matter.
Watch some games - taken a stronger interest because of your and Two-Cents vids. Specifically enjoyed your vids on earlier this year about the competition
As a Stormers supporter there is too much complacency in that set up … no one feels the pressure of playing bad. Week on week poor performances and worse it’s from guys that have been in Bok set ups … heads need to roll … I’m not expecting them to win every game but something is just not right there and it’s been for the past 2 years we have been in a downward trend from winning URC to runners up at home to bottom 4 on the table … the complacency needs to stop the players need to feel that pressure of performing otherwise they lose their spot … we let someone like Kade Wolhutter go to lions and he is playing amazing, letting Paul De Wet go and he is our best scrum half something’s off in the set up 😡 but I guess like every team in every sport there are big periods of ups and big periods of downs … I feel like the sharks have had their bad years and are building a formidable team and culture there good on John Plumtree and sharks for sticking with him 👌
That quins performance was typical quins this season. Poor bench, some really poor individual performances, Anyanwu for instance, did not stand out, but overall just can't hang against teams with a solid power game.
Never seen a ref overturning a decision because a player used bad language. You're favourite ref was a joke. I actually think he was the cause of the increase in tension in the game. Munster player thrown into hordings and he reversed what should have been a scrum for munster to a penalty against them for a bit of potty mouth , which wasn't against him. 😂😂😂😂
I’ve only managed to hear your highlights this week and it sounds apparent to me that referees and players alike just do not seem to be able to interpret, administer or play by the agreed current rules of the game. How on Earth can we then put forward a new set of changes, when the main contenders can’t play or apply by the current rules? The only result will probably be either more random play, or further penalties. For those of us who have loved the game, we just want to see a game of fast moving running rugby union, not a series of scrums, penalties and pretty coloured cards. What is to come?
The discipline of the French teams players was disgraceful this weekend . May the ban for both players from STade France be lengthy and hope mannie comes out of hospital soon
Does Pollock deserve a bench spot for England?? We are desperate for some impact off the bench and Earl cannot be England's only source of energy in the pack. Surely Pollock and Tom Willis have to be in the conversation. Tom Curry is still not up to speed so bringing some more young blood into camp can't hurt. Curry can't JUST be a player to slow down opposition ball. If you look at all the French teams, they play with pace and reckless abandon. Surely someone like Pollock needs to be the cat amongst the pigeons.
I hate the rugby is a winter sport aspect. No one enjoys that! Practicing in horrible conditions everyone cold and miserable. Just play in summer in the evening yes it’s hot and yes probably cramps etc but just so much better for everyone as a spectator I don’t want to sit in horrid weather to watch … if it’s a beautiful summer evening much better with some chilled beers 🍺
Sounds like there were some good games, shame virtually knowone in the UK could watch it. This subscription lark is getting ridiculous. Not doing the game any good.
Only England is affected. Premier Sport is great if you're in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. URC and Champions Cup in one place. It used to be the case that they all had it how England fans now are only experiencing what everyone else in UK and Ireland did before now (when it was on BT/TNT). I agree though, not ideal. To be fair, price Premier Sport costs is decent for all the rugby on it (Top 14 as well).
The 'take away' is the majority of rugby fans didn't watch the European Games because we refuse to pay for yet another sports channel. There are more and more Mickey Mouse 🐭 channels wrestling for the same number of events.
English rugby fans. Welsh, Scottish and Irish fans have had it like that for years whilst English fans had it on the one channel. We're now in the situation they've been in for last decade, and we are getting a taste of what they've put up with.
Yeah, he got smoked proper. The last time I saw a flyhalf/halfback getting flattened like that was Hougaard Vs Lima, many years ago. That is also the reason why 95% of us watch rugby.... Just to see the big hits.
French has always and still are "vuilgatte", can't believe teammates congratulated the Toulon offender after being sent off. Three French red cards this past weekend.
@@johnlouiswessels6083 They weren't congratulating him they were telling him to stay strong. As in to not lose his spirit over it. Players usually feel really bad after receiving a red card and rightfully so. The player is young and lacks experience on how to deal with those things. Moreover they can also be very affected when they are involved in such injuries for other players. It's clear that he didn't do it on purpose.
The south african teams don't belong in this competition. Their quality of rugby is so poor I don't even feel like watching them. Terrible showing. Manie Limpbok needs to go. Johan Goosen was terrible. Sharks had a collective brain melt towards the end of the game. If they struggle that much at home against Exeter, I don't have much hope for them going forward
Where is south africas depth you keep talking about I don't see it Saracens stadium is pathetic, what an amateur stadium and the wind.. How can you play in those conditions As a supporter of all SA teams I watched the 1st half of the bulls then switched off the second half Not interested in the championship at all
The depth of the national team is what I speak about...and is immense. The players are spread across 4 SA teams (well, mainly three) and lots of teams abroad. As for the conditions - they were awful, but Saracens managed them much better.
Is it "stupid"? Or is it a statement based in fact? Castres this season - 6 wins at home, no wins away Bordeaux 6 wins at home, 2 wins away Clermont 6 wins at home, 1 win away Montpellier 4 wins at home, 1 win away Stade Francais 4 wins at home, no wins away Perpignan 4 wins at home, no wins away Bayonne 6 wins at home 1 win away It goes on...
He's pointing out a trend which has existed for a long time. No one is saying that French teams struggle away from home but the tendency was always to send second string teams to play in the Heineken Cup as the Top 14 was always the main priority. The trend is changing, especially with the rise of La Rochelle in recent years but it's still there. Irish fans can't be annoyed by people saying we can't win a WC QF because it's just the truth at this point.
@ if you are talking domestic rugby, this is the result of a specific cultural aspect of French rugby, namely exacerbated parochialism. So it’s not that French sides don’t travel well, it’s that French sides fiercely defend their own turf, and unfortunately many referees tend to oblige. I would be very much surprised if you are not aware of that.
Casey and crowley are really starting to turn into a mean double act. V good for munster.

I’m delighted that Leinster won but Holy Jaysus the Ref was Shocking 🤦♂️🇮🇪
That quins performance was typical quins this season. Poor bench, some really poor individual performances, Anyanwu for instance, did not stand out, but overall just can't hang against teams with a solid power game.
English Prem clubs are not able to attack like others ... Toulouse, Bordeaux and Leinster are just too good. England need a team of internationals.
🔥
I’ve only managed to hear your highlights this week and it sounds apparent to me that referees and players alike just do not seem to be able to interpret, administer or play by the agreed current rules of the game.
How on Earth can we then put forward a new set of changes, when the main contenders can’t play or apply by the current rules?
The only result will probably be either more random play, or further penalties.
For those of us who have loved the game, we just want to see a game of fast moving running rugby union, not a series of scrums, penalties and pretty coloured cards.
What is to come?
SA teams got bullied, chewed up and spit Out, and Stormers play like there is nou game plan
Glasgow by far the best rugby playing team at this moment in time.
Keep everybody fit & Glasgow will be a match for anyone!
Typical jock talking themselves up
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sounds like there were some good games, shame virtually knowone in the UK could watch it. This subscription lark is getting ridiculous. Not doing the game any good.
Only England is affected. Premier Sport is great if you're in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. URC and Champions Cup in one place. It used to be the case that they all had it how England fans now are only experiencing what everyone else in UK and Ireland did before now (when it was on BT/TNT). I agree though, not ideal. To be fair, price Premier Sport costs is decent for all the rugby on it (Top 14 as well).
@@EggchasersRugby Thanks for the reply, it is frustrating, even the pubs can't keep abreast of all the channels.
Everyone is Scotland and Ireland has had Premier Sports for years. Home of the URC and Top 14. £70 for the year currently - that’s brilliant value.
If you are going to use photographer’s work, seek permission. That photo of Henry Pollock is mine and you don’t have my permission to use it.
Stormers will keep on loosing as long as Dweba is part of the team. Get rid of him.
Manie Libbok really bad - in hospital with serious injuries. French were playing dirty and nasty.
I thought they played like they were hoping for a bar brawl. The ref didn’t take control of the match, and Toulon made the most of it.
Where is south africas depth you keep talking about
I don't see it
Saracens stadium is pathetic, what an amateur stadium and the wind.. How can you play in those conditions
As a supporter of all SA teams I watched the 1st half of the bulls then switched off the second half
Not interested in the championship at all
Disapline is the issue there. Plus, saracens at home would be tough
In Japan!
Most play in Japan . In case you didn’t know
The depth of the national team is what I speak about...and is immense. The players are spread across 4 SA teams (well, mainly three) and lots of teams abroad.
As for the conditions - they were awful, but Saracens managed them much better.
Your not interested because your team lost.move on grow a pair kid.😂😂😂
Will you stop with this stupid comment that ""-winning on the road in unFrench".?
Is it "stupid"? Or is it a statement based in fact?
Castres this season - 6 wins at home, no wins away
Bordeaux 6 wins at home, 2 wins away
Clermont 6 wins at home, 1 win away
Montpellier 4 wins at home, 1 win away
Stade Francais 4 wins at home, no wins away
Perpignan 4 wins at home, no wins away
Bayonne 6 wins at home 1 win away
It goes on...
You need to listen and comprehend what's being said before running off your mouth and embarassing yourself.
@ Lol, did you take a look at the team Ulster is sending to France ?
