A big thanks to Robin for letting me take the Zoe around the track! Seriously impressed with this car as it looks so boring from the exterior. Great fun! I see why these are so popular in Europe
Keep it up Kyle, plenty fun see you in Europe, driving cars and the met up with Misha. Would be awesome see you in the Honda e ripping the ring as well 😃. Cheers!
I loved it 😀. It is very capable even with it's limited means. It's very encouraging for the Megane E Tech to come, with a more powerful motor and water cooling system, and basically better everything. It's beautiful outside, and inside, and I'm sure will be really very fun to drive.
The best part of these videos is Kyle’s utter joy and excitement with whatever he drives around the ring. He seems to find the positives in all of the different vehicles.
Amazing to see you finally jump into one of our awesome ZOE's its not always about speed but its about fun and you guys seem to be having fun, Well Kyle anyway i think, and poor Robin she looked worried at some points hahaha let's also remind a lot of people that DC charging is an option in Europe on the ZE50 so it is available and it will have 50kW CCS. But thank you fo taking us on a ride with you around the ring, Maybe we should arrange a ZOE club meet there now that would be awesome.. Thank you again.
In the EV world at the moment, everything is about 0-60 time, 200+ mile range. Stuff that sells to enthusiast EV and EV evangelicals. But it is little vehicles like the Zoe that will make the big difference at reducing fuel usage. The little car that gets you from home to work, work to the store, home to school and recreation - and doesn't always ferry the extra 1500 pound battery back that weighs the vehicle down and consumes kWs to move around whether you use it or not.
The Zoe is an inexpensive and reliable car. It is an Urban car but you can also do longer trips with it especially if you have the 50DC or 43AC charging version.
Um... the Zoe has a 250 mile range! And 0-60 isn't very good, but the hot hatch category is massively popular in Europe, so the first manufacturer to make an EV hot hatch will have a hit on their hands
The Zoe from 2019 and up actually has DC charging as an option, and supports up to 50kw(which I guess is what she used on her trip, otherwise it'd never reach 80% in an hour...) I rented one for a month last year, I liked it(and I used to own a Model 3 Performance, now an ID4...). It's small, nimble and cheap so you can just through it around. 👍
Well, there was a facelift in 2019 that had still just 22kW AC Charging and 41kwh battery. The one with DC is the ZE 50 with 50kwh. There is also one older version with 43kW AC Charging.
@@thankyouforyourcompliance7386 Still it's nice that in Europe most people can do 22kw charging right at home. Here in the US, most home L2 chargers are in the 6 to 10 kw range, and even the new Ford Lightning with its massive battery only goes up to 19 kw home L2 charging, and will require an extremely high powered special home EVSE to reach that level.
Hey man, I'm driving exactly the same machine, same color (while waiting for Giga Berlin to go online:)) but I absolutely love it. Cute little European car. I wish Tesla came up with hot hatch accelerating as M3 Performance. I own my Zoe just for 10 months but I have already drove it around the globe (40kkm). I love Teslas, but I bought this one for 1/3 of EU Tesla price and I still enjoy driving it. Recommend to everyone as economically sensible solution...
Up next: picking up the kids from daycare in a F1 car. Hilarity ensues when it is bad at parallel parking and there is no room for little Mikey’s craft project.
The pity about the speed restricted zone is that you can really go faster than you expect on the hill turn just after it and in a weaker car, it would be great to come in with more speed. :)
Thanks for the Video Kyle. The Renault Zoe is indeed a nice car now. I had the first generation one, imported from france. That one was so la la - a lot of parts had issues but the ride was nice.
The battery is still air-cooled, but this isn't passive air-cooling like the Nissan Leaf. The New ZOE uses the car's air condition system to blow cool air over the battery and suck out heat.
thats quite an achievement for a modest ev, four up! Be interesting to try on Cadwell Park, with lower wider stickier tyres, driver only, TC disabled and if possible a little more top end, say 95,mph - I reckon it would hang onto some classic Gtis :)
Yes, the Zoe 135 can be a fun car to drive, specially on a twisty road! I also have a Seat freetrack with 170HP but have more fun with the Zoe, with the bonus of less ecological concerns... ;-) If you are concerned with safety ratings, purchase the most equipped version that would get at least 4 of 5 stars...
Looking at the wheels on that Zoe 50 135GT it has CCS charging, which is bourne out by Robin's stated charging times. I bet she could drive around the ring faster than you!
Great (and funny) video! I came across it coincidentally and my 1st thought was: another bloody tourist. But after the 1st corners I knew you're familiar with the ring! Where did you learn it?
The worst thing about traction control/ABS is when you are in a tight turn and hit a bump and TC kicks on - during maximum regen braking and thus shuts off the brakes!
I Agree. I’ve never seen a ZOE 2019+ (new facelift + 52kWh) without CCS. Would be interesting to know if it’s a R135 or R110 spec. The old ZOEs also had 43kW AC with version Q90 and Q210.
i have a Tesla model S and 30kwh Nissan Leaf strangely enough I like driving the Leaf as much as the Tesla. Although the Leaf is no racer people don't expect it to be quick as it is, you can keep up with much more exotic cars on the alpine passes near where I live. The Tesla is bonkers fast either you drive a 10% of its capabilities or risk loosing your license. it the old thing about what more fun, driving a slow car fast, or a fast car slow
It is actively cooled (and heated) by car's AC (heat pump) yes it is done by air not liquid. The downside of that when the car is charging you can't use heating/cooling for interior.
@@Esthreel That's not true. You can charge and use the heating/cooling. Maybe when the active cooling kicks in, then the heating / cooling stops, but the active cooling doesn't run all the time
@@stevehill8411 Actually you can't use it while charging. Poor design, and makes no sense technically but that's how it is. Only if you use the pre-conditioning option but that's not very practical...

Benefit ? Most racers turn the regen off as it contributes to overheating the battery and motors, and in many evs the regen is not smooth enough on the limit.
So it does give a warning in EVs that can't maintain their own max speed and happen to go over the max rated speed. I want to see (in a lab not on my own roads) what over speed to an electric motor can do and how far the motors can actually safely go before they straight up explode. There should be a single function that auto brakes hard to keep the car from going into the red THAT far but yeah first it's a warning. 9:30 I wonder if it will auto brake after a certain point or if the motor will just shatter into a trillion pieces. (Not recommended to test it and yes I have a destructive mindset i like seeing the limit of certificate materials and seeing how to make them stronger but yeah don't over do it on the Zoe)
There is belts in the back, you just can't see them with that camera angle. The rear passengers would slide into each other at the highest-G turns if they were not wearing them.
@@Roy-qn2ie Normal seatbelts does not stop your upper body from leaning sideways, especially on a bench seat without side-support. Her hand flat on the seat only provides side support. Absolutely right! Juvenile obsession with 0-60 (not the more useful 30-70) and the 200+ mile range.
Is that the same reason that a much bigger Model 3 SR+ uses less energy than a Zoe ?

Kyle is an amazing entertainer keeping the whole conversation in the flow w/o pressuring the people in the car who seem classy but a bit shy.
Fun video. I think the Zoe does kinda what the Bolt does in the US. It's modestly priced, not super capable but a long long way from helpless.
The bolt is actually way better - especially with Supercruise - I wish we had it in Europe
