Great build!!! I love this idea. As far as the welding is concerned, I have been welding for thirty years, it is my occupation , for your application, if it works, then you are a master!!!!
I watched a dude that made one by digging out a spot in the ground, had bricks and charcoal and made a knife with rebarb, a regular hammer and a $20 anvil
great video bud! if your having problems with your stick welding try turning up the amps, also drag the tip of your electrode on the ground a few times if it’s still sticking to the steel, or you can collect some grinder disc shavings on the ground with a magnet and dip the tip of your electrode in them and that helps too! dirty old welder trick haha
Great little forge well built quick and easy. But you wont get the high heat you need without a simple improvement. You need to add forced air to your air intake with a valve to control the flow. A shop vac works great for that. you may also need to be able to increase or decrease your gas flow into the mix chamber. By doing this you can reach temperature hot enough to melt steel in excess of 3,000 degrees. It would be a simple addition to what you already have.
Welders hate on everyone for bad welds. Half the time it’s just not a pretty weld but it’s a functional weld. Not all of us went to school to become a welder and have to practice all the time. And welds on things like this don’t need to be perfect
@@SM-cg2dc I once drank a whole litre of chunky milk, it was like porridge, but i chugged the whole thing. I had too, because I bought it. What a cheapskate
Gotta love all the safety and welding critics these days. Anyhow, I LOVE that you built something awesome using the most basic tools and supplies. So many people overthink things and never get anything done.
Nice job! Some people want to talk crap while they sit on their couch in their pajamas eating cereal, while the real men are outside making useful things out of nothing. Great job, great video.
I do a bit of welding and i can produce nice beads if i need to. For example a trailer or anything under stress or weight that needs to be welded carefully and correctly. For a Forge like this... A few rough tacks will do so stop trying to give the guy a lesson in welding when its not needed. Would you clean your sewers in a wedding suit? Would you prepare a gourmet meal for your lunch break at work? Great vid it gave me some ideas for myself. Thanks
It also helps to clean all of your workpieces up with a grinder before welding. You should never weld on rusty or painted metal. Bare metal carries a better current.
At least we have the same welding skills lol I have never been good with arc. Just started ordering some pieces to start building my first forge cant wait for my arms to be shot from hammering all weekend
Hello friend, I see that you have a lot of trouble with your welding post, it's normal, clean the area well or you must weld and you'll see that your electrode will start immediately and your weld will be much more beautiful and resistant, the cleaning is 90% of the weld success =)
Nice! Add some forced air to your air inlet and you have a blown burner. It will heat up faster and reach welding temps all while using less fuel. Thanks for the video..
I'm not here to talk safety with you like some of these other wannabe mothers. I wanna say nice video, I will be using it this weekend to make my forge. Thanks man!!
This is most common when they get "loaded" by softer metal. Had a 6 inch wheel explode in a shop once because some dysfunctional person cut some aluminum with it - and the next person used it for what it was for, steel. They, of course can explode because of other reasons (to much pressure). But this is the most common cause of failure. Also welding with a t-shirt for me is a no no... I guess I'm just to pale skinned to take the sun burn that results. I did 16 tack welds with shorts on once... once.
hey bro nice build. little tip to improve your welding. noticed yo have issue getting initial spark. 2 things can help, go hotter on the welder up on amps and take a grinder to the areas you want to weld. scuff em up a little. and as always pull dont push. i am gonna try this design myself thanks for the instruction.
This would be the easiest way for me but I work in a machine shop and have access to a plasma cutter and welder Ann's the steel angle so I'm pretty set this project would probably take me less time than it did him because I won't have to do any grinding
How long does a tank of propane that size last if it's running constantly? Can someone help, I just finished forging classes and would like to start my own
Iv enjoyed the video, Thanks for sharing! The only thing i would do differently would be maybe replacing the fast forwarded noises with some music. Can i ask what kind of bricks were used? Are they regular bricks? Thanks!
a lot of negative comments. seems like people are butt hurt that you own a welder.... great video. love the concept. weld a frame around some hi-temp bricks. in my mind this was quick n easy. no measuring or fuck all. line it up and zip cut "close enough" tack her together. people tend to over complicate things. great job. keep it up.
megazwatcher I see your point and I too think that people need to stop complaining but the welding is a fundamental part of the forge, the ones giving constructive criticism are completely in the right.
I know a faster way, just did it today because my woodstove forge decided to lose a leg. dig a 12"Dx10"Wx10"L hole, bricks on the bottom, bricks on 3 sides (walls) and a 12"x12"x2" cement paver for the top, leave a hole on corner, insert the propane difuser tube from an old portable grill, attach a tank (use a hose for extra distance) cover the bricks and cement paver with dirt from making the hole, and there you go
As much as I love what you've done here - surely it's easier (and quicker and cheaper) to take an old metal bin, put some fire bricks in there to line it, and bore a couple of holes for a propane torch and blower?
You marked the 2 half holes but didn't show how you cut them. I assume you sawed as much material away as you could and cleaned it up a bit with a chisel?
I don't consider this a fast and easy forge build. It is a thorough build to say the least. But for a fast and easy forge, just dig a hole lined with fire brick and start a fire. Now THAT is a fast and easy forge. Not the most efficient, but fast and easy. Good job bud.
What a great video! I'm not one to post comments, but this was the perfect instructional video for someone already familiar with the tools and techniques. Or just eyeball candy for those who are into this kind of thing. Also glad I'm not the only one who still uses a stick welder (and occasionally gets it stuck :) Oh man, just panned down to other comments. Hahah hella
yeah it's pretty quick, but he got it done, wouldn't say the Holmes' way though

I don’t give a crap about his welding technique. I can’t do any of this stuff so I’m impressed. Cool video.
DaB thats cool mate. Welders just like to bitch.
I gotta step up my tool collecting game.
if you call being proud of our structurally sound welds then yes i guess we bitch

I appreciate that this guy put his video on x2 speed for us. Thumbs up!
Too long, had to bump it to 4x
Operating a grinder without the guard is dangerous. I bet you pour a glass of milk without smelling it first too. You outlaw...
You can’t be afraid, drink that damn milk and eat the chunks!

This truly made me smile. Watching you weld in high speed, I smiled the whole time. Great video though and good idea you got there.

hey! I put my pants on!!
besides, not just talking crap...the welding IS crap...

Real men can take criticism and improve upon it.
I'm wearing my pjs but not talking crap. Cool project.
Now someone is speaking my language thank you for making a video on an easy way that uses tools I have
Im hoping to build my own forge soon for the first time and that looked amazing

SO glad to see I'm not the only one welding in shorts in the driveway, lol. Carry on!
Thats a great forge. What is the tube that hangs down for. Is it an air intake?
I’m so glad I have a wire fed welder :)
I admit I was laughing my ass off at the welds but I give the guy props for building something that works.
Great forge ! When your electrods stick like this you just have to increase your amps 😉
thanks for the tip man!
I'm Bored no problem 😉

wjspade yes it make an enormous difference!
Spit works on an electrode too. It will help with the intial conductivity to get it going without sticking.
This could be a world record!!! Very fast build bro!!! Kidding aside, LOOKS GREAT!!!
"Fastest and easiest"
I expected something like stacking fire proof bricks and drilling a hole in them
At least we have the same welding skills lol I have never been good with arc. Just started ordering some pieces to start building my first forge cant wait for my arms to be shot from hammering all weekend
Everything in this is so satisfying
How did your forge perforned in these years? Did you use it frequently and hiw are you satisfied with it?
I dont used this forge anymore. I built bigger one. It is easier to heat lathe pieces there 😉
Great vid. Pretty much 2 commets, 1 learn to weld, 2 grinder can blow up. Keep doing you bro

Great build Marek
Kinda looks like you could use an old bed frame for this. Awsome.
I like how your welding segment starting at 1:09 is backwards :)
Great video! When you took away the two blocks, you brought them back with semi-circles cut into them. What did you use to do that?
I watched another video of someone doing a similar build, and they used a rounded file.
Nice!

Nice job bro. Just remember to drag your stick. Don't push it.
Sounds like a personal problem! LOL!
Using a cutoff disc with no guard - bold move! I've had them shits explode on me and throw shrapnel into a face guard i was wearing.

Grinders scare the hell out of me
I remember welding in high school. Next day, everyone came in with a big v -neck burn on their chest from the button up shirt they had on.
I never use a guard lol
I don't wear a face shield or use a guard... they explode and the shrapnel isn't too bad... mainly because I use a variac to control the power.
Im just glad this isn't a fastest and easiest welding video
This was neither the fastest nor the simplest forge I've ever seen BUT it's not bad 👍

higher amps, about 75-80 for 3/32 7018 is good. Great little forge man.
Really? I'm in welding school now and they have us on more like 85 - 95 at all times with 7018 or else it fuzes. Around 75 is for 6010 rods
Kris you are correct sir im also in school and also a fabricator and 7018 is more like 85+
I was going to pick on you about your welding, but that’s already been covered. Lol. Nice video, I do like your design works out nice. 👍🏻
is it ok to make good welds?
Which materijal do you used for isolation?
Wow. That was quite the project.
What kind of bricks are those? And are they good for high temps?
Is this is the easy way I want to see the hard one
Haha madlad

great job, works mint! don’t worry bout the haters, i didn’t see anything about a welding vid - bet it could take a bashing anyway

Btw which welding machine are you using? At what settings?
ftom the beginning to the end i see your inproving your welding when i learned to weld it had a pretty big learnig curve
Great work but using angle grinder without cover when You do cut is bad idea ( 2 years ago I get serious damage when disc has been broken )
Had one broke on me a few times too
Thanks for the design, welding game needs to level up but it's a great idea.
I dig your creativity bro !!! Get a pair of welders gloves and hold that stick like a pen when you weld.. you will get way more control
The hammer noise at that speed was great
Fantastic production 👍🏼 Amazing Video
Supporting rod with other hand helps a lot. Also, you should pull rod, if you push it, then slack gets under the weld.
Wow you got one of that old Transformator welders. Sick...
What material is that? The white stuff
As a welder your weld made me chukle, you should increase amp, weld in one direction and scrape the weld before you make another
Wow... Nice job, i love it
How much propane is used per job? And is there a regulator that would be beneficial to this kind of set up?
Just be sure to buy a high pressure regular. NOT one from a barbecue grill.
how long can you work on a full bottle of propane, like you had on it in the video
this is a forge building video, not a welding video
