Looking forward to next TB Whatnot livestream! One question: Will it finally be possible to enter giveaways if not from UK?
Are giveaways including international shipping?
If the line was doomed, Lego would have stopped after Rivendell. Lego designers said after Rivendell's release that if we want to see more sets for Lord of the Rings Rivendell would have to sell well. It obviously did because we then got Baradur... Not sure where you're getting your information but it seems the large sets are selling extremely well and I wouldn't be surprised to see another large scaled set released in a year or two.
Great. More unaffordable garbage teasing from Lego.
I disagree, because LOTR is not actually back as a theme, mostly just a couple very expensive sets that release each year under the Icons theme. I do not think we will get an actual LOTR theme with play sets.
I'd be interested to know how you came to the conclusion that the sets perform poorly on the market. The opposite is true; both big LotR sets were partially out of stock upon release. Additionally, with timely ordering and selling the GWP and minifigures, it was possible to recoup the full purchase price and buy another one!
Of course, the sets are far too expensive, but LEGO is doing excellently with this strategy (see Star Wars UCS) and will not change it. Many people are not aware that LEGO now appeals to an international audience, and as someone who spends a third of the year in the UAE, I can assure you that hardly anyone there cares whether a set costs $500 or $800.
why don’t they care it cost so much if you don’t mind me asking? and i didn’t know it was even that popular outside of us and canada(two of the most vocal communities)
@@dahveedb7550 Firstly, because employees _do not pay taxes_ , significant portions of their income can be spent on leisure, consumption, or investments. Secondly, culturally, children hold a much higher status, which is also reflected in financial prioritization for toys and similar stuff. And last but not least: most locals (and many Western expats) are simply at least wealthy, with a good double-digit percentage being rich or even super-rich.
I'm still waiting for more afordable LotR sets...
LOTR is full of giant buildings and sets. Allow me to list them.
-Bag End (with Hobbiton expansions possible)
-Bree (town/city)
-Weathertop (built to minifig scale)
-Rivendell (expansionable)
-Moria (Gates with watcher, inside with several expansions)
-Lothlorian (giant trees with buildings in them, expansionable)
-The Argonath
-Edoras
-Helm's Deep (original line was small and very disappointing)
-Black Gate (original was just ok)
-Dunharrow
-City of the Dead
-Minas Tirith (literally could and should be the largest castle Lego has ever built. Can come in sections)
-Minas Morgul
-Osgiliath
-Barad-dur
-Mount Doom
-The Grey Havens
They will not run out of ideas even if they only focus on giant builds.
There are, of course, a lot of smaller sets too. And pretty much all of these (and many smaller ones) are actually available MOCs via the Chinese markets.
The quality of this video would let me think that this is a channel with at least 50K subscribers. Incredible mate!
Hmm…I think Rivendell and Barad-Dûr would beg to differ. The new Lord of the Rings Gollum movie will also invite opportunities for more sets, so I think it is best we just wait and see rather than guessing.
ur wrong about there not being enough iconic locations. mines of moria , lonely mountain, kazadoom. the other teo elvish relmes. Yes lego should being cheaper sets but there are loads of iconic locations to use
Also Beorn house
Amazon exclusive? It can also be bought from all the LEGO stores. I think they are purposely doing large sets first so the hardcore fans are forced to buy it as it is their only option. A Modular Minas Tirith would be pretty epic.
Cant really be "Doomed" if it was never really "Alive" to begin with.
What are you talking about
Here's the thing.... the first line of LOTR/Hobbit lego failed because of the exact opposite problem. Loads of small sets with small scenes and only one big build (Orthanc). The critics are absolutely right, LOTR is an adult brand for adult collectors. While I can agree there can be some diversity and especially some "multi builds", the target absolutely needs to go big and hard. The last line was full of crappy half-baked pieces that really aren't worth much.
Oh, and they need to stop this stupid brick head nonsense.
It failed because Lego doesn’t understand that it can produce both for children and adults. It released a lot of smaller sets but without battle packs and a lot of other key items, instead of a broad theme you got a weird mashup of a lot of unrelated moments ( no Minas Tirith, no Oliphant, no Lurtz - it’s just unsatisfying when you have three movies and they just left so much out, also hurts the bottom line of kids going "got to catch them all ) and now the big sets are all in the unjustifiable 500$ area for coloured plastic which is getting to the point where Lego is becoming even more of a luxury brand than it has been for a while.
It’s not that the Lego itself is bad - just rightfully associated with utterly ruined surroundings thanks to a scummy company embodying everything wrong with a defacto monopoly position.
Also, let’s not kid ourselves: people ultimately pay for minifigures. Mocs for adult versions of any major theme can be found everywhere. It’s just that until Lego did it, there weren’t any amovie accurate character models, just the usual fan made stuff which while not bad, doesn’t sell sets.
This goes so far that one can buy an empty Orthanc without certain parts for a comparatively low price even with branded bricks and don’t even get me started on none branded bricks ( I am talking 200$ brick value and that’s with someone still turning a profit ) Despite barley having less parts than the full thing.
I absolutely understand many of the things this man is saying, Lego has gotten REALLY Expensive, especially since inflation and the cost of living. There is absolutely no way we can get many of these Lego sets with all the other things we have to worry about...
I would love LOTR diorama sets as they serve as a middle ground between hardcore fans that cannot afford the large sets and the level of quality displayed in the large LOTR sets
The only thing LEGO was testing is if AFOL's would buy a $500 LOTR set every year. They only invest in full IP themes if there is current media targeted at kids (i.e. new LOTR movies, new theme sets). As is, they are willing to bet that adult fans of these properties will be willing to pick up a set or two out of nostalgia, and they want the masses, not just LEGO collectors/enthusiasts.
What about Harry Potter?
As long as Legi Harry Potter is still on shelves the Lord of the Rings will most likely not officially return. Both large sets did so well for Lord of the Rings I can guarantee they are working on the next giant set. When Harry Potter ends their run then LOTR will likely return.
The lord of the rings sets appeal to non LOTR fans of lego (especially castle fans) - love both sets, will do my best to get them, even if they are not a priority for me. But there are better chances I would get smaller sets that have something I like or have pieces I need (like wargs, orcs, nice armor and weapons, so on).
I fully support the modular sets part. The only reason I touched the harry potter sets as an adult LEGO collector (outside of getting a few sets here and there for a fantastic creature like bugbeak) is because I LOVED the idea of buying small play set you can play around with and then combining it with others to make a huge castle.
Outside of SW, there's never been a Lego theme more ripe with Army Building potential. It's kind of shocking they haven't done it already. Gondorian soldiers, Rohirrim, Uruk Hai, Mordor Orcs, Easterlings, Haradrim, Army of the Dead, Prologue Elves, the list goes on. And there's multiple different kinds too. Now, here's where I disagree. I'm fine with LOTR getting more expensive sets more often because I think LOTR is, simply put, more grandiose to begin with. The only way to do things like that properly is $500. I'd much rather have, say, a Lothlorien, Mina's Morgul, or Edoras be properly done at $500 than a half-assed one at $100. But here's where I do agree: There's plenty of smaller options that could be done justice in a main line range. The Prancing Pony, Amon Hen's Seeing Seat, Catapults, Ballista's, Siege Towers, the Forbidden Pool, Oliphaunt, Ents, Balrog, etc. There's options for $150 and below sets. And yes, absolutely also options for diorama sets. My mind immediately also went to the Nazgul tree scene too, but I also immediately though of the Door of Moria, the interior of Mt. Doom for the destruction of the ring, the Bridge of Kazad Dum w/ Gandalf and the Balrog, mini scale Mina's Tirith and Argonath, etc.
If we're not getting any playsets then i don't see a reason for it to continue to exist, the original theme worked as you had plenty of playscale sets. They could make a lot or reamakes, a battle of the 5 armies set wave, rings of power sets and cursed build able figures the potential is there.
Great Video! I would definitely love to get smaller LEGO LOTR Sets, especially because I cannot afford the two D2Cs currently available!
My large Lego purchases need to be saved for HP so LOTR is a pass for me. Rivendell is a great looking set but I also have nowhere to put it. Barad Dur is a hard pass even if it was cheaper. I would consider buying a cheaper diorama in the theme as that could easily be displayed on the bookshelf with the LOTR books. Glad to see you back doing more consistent content! Still one of my top fav Lego youtubers!!
Should be back as a theme he just doesn't have the marketing
Not cancelled click bait
Lego LOTR roughly falls into the Fantasy/Castle theme, and sadly thats something that Lego pretty much exlusively makes several hundred dollar sets for, think Castle, DnD, Lord of the Rings. The cheapest Set they made in the last 10 years that fits into this general theme is the 3 in 1 castle and thats still a hundred dollars. Im convinced they are fully aware of how badly fans want this stuff back and purposefully only do these uber expesive stuff. The more likely thing they tested is if they can do more of these big sets, and i think its more likely we will see another big one like minas tirith next year instead of a playscale wave.
Besides, if they really think they need to test if a Lord of the Rings theme would sell like they claim they are so out of touch with their community that all hope is lost anyways :D
I mean LotR is one of the most beloved franchises ever, the aftermarket prices of the old sets and especially the minifigs are absolutely ludicrous and people have been very vocal about wanting LotR, or more generally Castle and Fantasy stuff back for the last decade. Ofcourse a Lotr theme revival would sell like crazy.they thing
The fact that I owned every single harry potter playset from 2018 and 2019
He has a point yet he is wrong too ! Rivendell is one of the best Lego ever made however it's freaking expensive that you need to get a loan!
Gor some reason they could never get the balance between adults and children right with LOTR
Wrong!
rent for as low as $500? Where?
Is that a week or a month?
Lego already destroyed Indiana Jones, my favorite theme, so I pray they don't do the same with Lord of the Rings. I won't never forgive them for that.
I really like the 2 smaller sets! The big one doesn't have enough figures for me to buy. And it's a shame they cancelled the tempel of doom 😭
@@l.b.2392 My favorite among the 3 sets is the idol temple. But I would have loved a continuation of the small sets, especially on the Dial of Destiny
@@jojoaprilfish absolutely! We need more smaller sets in general, most of all LoTR!
Considering the recent Indi wave,
I prefer the chase because: the car built is fantastic! The plain as well (i don't use the stickers but added some green and camouflage parts. It's my fav Indiana Jones Film and one of my alltime fav films in general (not top 10 but might make my top 20).
Sean Conneries character is the best. Therefore i consider myself extremely blessed for this set (I also missed out on IJ before) 😃
LOTR is crying out with neglect from lego the perfect universe is middle earth
I watched your video and still don’t understand your thumbnail. Having high selling, high priced themed sets doesn’t equate “canceled” or to your point at least for many years from now after all big names locations have been hit, but not all themes do continue like Star Wars (and I don’t think all should). I am actually sick of how many times HP redoes things that didn’t need to be redone. We may even see War for the Rohirrim sets upon that release when the movie comes out, but time will tell!
Bought them both on release day, Lego should be happy with the sales performance as at one point it was a month back order
Ive been waiting years for Lego Lotr to be available on the Xbox store and they havent even finished Lego Hobbit. Oh and the cheek to give us Mines of Moria and Gollum Game. Theres apparently a Lotr online battle game partnering with Amazon so all hope lies with them. Just a fools hope
I disagree
You are right it’s a terrible way to market an audience and Brock heads are ugly. They need to get on the ball with affordable sets army packs and iconic sets like Amon hen the prancing pony and lothorien. I hear next year they will make a minis tirith as that was teased for next year. We’ll see I hope they don’t screw it up and make it a regular theme. They really need to do better with price and what they are picking and pricing not every fan is rich.
LOTR is not Harry Potter, neither Star Wars. The people who are willing to purchase those sets, obvioulsy have to be die hard fans who are resolve to afford them and appreciate them.
I think they will still release more sets
@9:10 thats Minas Morgul ( or minas Ithil), not minas tirith..
This fucking sucks Lord of the rings is if anything more critically acclaimed than Harry Potter and Star Wars but because of the rights issues it gets nothing like the market it's ridiculous
LOTR battle packs?
What! I don’t really want to buy it, because I’m not a fan. I almost wanted some of them, because they looked cool. Well, if you’re talking about price, have people buy it step by step.
#SaveLegoLordOfTheRings/Hobbits
Collector items more or less
Meh. This is why I mostly buy off brand Lego now😂
just sell some crap you own. if you want it
clickbait, arguments make no sense
This video doesn’t make sense sorry
Lego keeps releasing big sets targeting a tiny audience and looses appeal to more and more new consumers, resulting in a brand that’s becoming a luxury item with no regular customer appeal. It’s the final nail of the long death of lego as a toybrand that is also appealing to adults. A brand solely focused on big IP sets will ultimately create a dilemma; while targeting excessive luxury purchasing is not a rare idea, the target audience is much smaller. The result is the death of any item that doesn’t have a luxury appeal capable of justifying extremely high purchases.
Edit: because YT is being ridiculous:
It’s not a regular toy company if any remaining sets from basic themes like castle or pirates cost 400-500$. Even Ninjago does not escape this. It’s a nostalgia driven luxury brand.
You can sell these big sets in a way that is still affordable to different audiences - and lower the overall price in general. The Lego group does not do this with most of its themes.
To argue that Lego is the Nr. 1 toy company is like saying that Bernard Arnaults Louis Vuitton is the Nr. 1 clothing
I also didn’t say that it hurts Legos profits, I wrote that Lego is dying as a toy company for let’s say 85% of it’s former core customer base.
Their practices are simply becoming far too high ( due to their own greed ) hence why the offhand market flourishes to satisfy the demand of regular customers.
Even mostly black sets like Barad Dur look like a MoC on the inside. I would also like to point out that Lego is increasingly failing to reach younger audiences which means that the nostalgia brand it is relying on, combined with hardcore enthusiasts like the Star Wars or Marvel crowd will have a tougher stand over time since there are fewer new customers that could eventually become the fans who are willing to put down a month worth of rent in a lot of parts of the world for a single set.
It has gotten to a point where a lot of the customer base doesn’t buy Lego to build stuff anymore. Which on its own is fine but since this is a toy company, children are meant to play with the stuff. No idea how many younger parents you have talked to in recent memory but if a toy companies main flagships are adult focused… Not even mentioning that the profit growth is fairly consistent. 2.2 billion ( Kronen ) in 2009 ( today 1 Danish Kr equals 0.13 € or 0.15 $ ) , 3.7 2010, 4.2 2011, 5.6 2012, 6.1 2013, 7 2015, 9.2 & 9.4 in 2015 and 2016 & back down to 7.81 2017, 8.08 2018, 8.31 2019, up to 9.92 in 2020 and then the record years of the pandemic, 13.28, 13.78 in 2021 & 2022 and finally 13.11 in 2023.
In other words: Lego simply keeps growing. Slowly and consistently. It’s just that today, more and more of of its customers aren’t children anymore.
@@Arcaryon i disagree, If anything Lego has been selling way more since they started making bigger sets and targeting more “adults” idk if u know this but Lego has become number 1 toy company in the market :), I do agree that would be nice to see smaller sets, but saying that it will affect Lego negatively if they don’t make more “affordable” sets just cause you want to have smaller sets is a bit non sense, their numbers show otherwise
@@Arcaryon so it is a bit of a weird thing cause Lego fans complain about prices, but keep buying overpriced sets so like..? Vote with ur wallet? Some giant expensive sets sold more than some smaller very cool sets, so.. but I do agree that it is becoming too expensive, but at the same time Lego fans just buy it no matter what so yea..
@@angelomedeiros493 It’s barley a toy company anymore - that is the joke here. It’s most profitable flagship series are all marketed towards adults with a lot of money, not children. That it doesn’t hurt their bottom line to ignore the vast majority of the market - they just could make a lot more money if they actually tried to satisfy more customers, lower prices for certain sets / series etc. Lego is simply dead for most kids on the world which is pretty evident when taking a look at their lineup. The sets targeting younger audiences are almost al declining. No normal castle & no pirate sets as a toy company is a joke. Lego IS going to become a mostly luxury focused brand, plain and simple. Hell - when you look at alternative producers, who deliver high quality prints and detailed custom armor etc. it’s evident how much Lego draws from „ye good old days“.

Lego Stop failing Lord of the doings fans
Lost a subscriber from this video, bud. Your videos used to be so interesting and not so clickbaity
100% agree, the fact that rivendell and baru dur sold so well even at their price should tell them the market can sustain a full theme.
I'd buy some sub £100 sets but I'm not such a big fan that I'll ever drop £400 on a set.
I think LOTR would be a great addition to the roster of themes especially if they don't go nuts. A few sets a year could easily keep fans happy and buildings would be great for castle fans.
I assume they don't want to conflict with their medieval theme and harry potter being their current fantasy offering but I honestly don't think they would see a decrease in interest or conflict.
I would have much preferred if the Rivendell set had been a microscale set of the full Rivendell and not just a small portion, with a price around $160 similar to the recent micro Hogwarts
they could make tons of big sets. lothlorien exists. edoras exists. Also we already got treebeard once before. what I find funny is you don't like how expensive the sets are yet you buy them anyway. a little hypocritical.
I’m pretty sure he was talking about the average Lego fan. He is a huge enthusiast and does RUclips so it makes sense he buys some of the big ones. He’s talking about the casual fan because he wants the theme to stick around
Cost of living crisis is over, just buy them, build them and display them
100% agree! Modular small sets to put together and battle packs for LOTR would be outstanding!
