‘Nothing Without You’ is a romantic song based upon the Qawwali style, in which a lover claims: “I cannot live peacefully without you for even a moment. I miss you terribly when you are away.”
The late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is today acknowledged as the great master of Qawwali who popularised this beautiful and inspirational music beyond Muslim peoples to a worldwide audience. Mustt Mustt is the first of two albums on which the singer collaborates with Canadian producer Michael Brook to place the music in a contemporary setting.
My daughter asked me wich one was my favorite song on the whole world... Though I am Latin and never meet this wonderful artist, the answer was easy... THIS ONE!!!

This was a beloved song of my mother's and it became one of mine too.
Nowadays, this song will always be linked to my journey 8 years ago, back from France to India when I carried my mother's ashes to the place she had chosen for their immersion, and sitting on the flight listening to this song and crying. Now, once in a while when I feel like I need a good cry and to connect with the sadness of saying goodbye to my mother...I come to this song and let all the sadness and grief and love take over, and let the tears flow...

I was really lucky to have seen NFAK perform live twice in the UK when my Pakistani parents took me to his concerts.
I knew nothing about Qavali music but I was converted at that moment.
I first heard this particular song as a young adult, 19 years old and became completely hooked. I played this to my wife after we first got married but then I lost it.
Nearly twenty years later I have found this song again. I can't believe it!

Nahin = Not (nahiyon = will not [future tense])
Lagna = to become fixated or attached (future tense)
