@@Dorked Just wondering but what would've happened if Frisk and/or Chara clicked repent? Would it be an instant loss and/or game over, or would that be them giving up and joining Asriel?
Asriel's character is so well done here. He holds Chara in a pedestal and can't even accept that they used to be a bad friend, instead blaming himself of what happened on the surface. And the moment Chara's behavior diverges from this idealized version that never actually existed, the only explanation Asriel can accept is that Frisk corrupted them (like how Undyne accused Frisk of turning Papyrus against her, when in reality it was his choice)
honestly i dont feel like thats asriels character but this is a au so i dont really care about the way they interpret asriel in inverted fate
i mean who am i to judge asriels character i know more about flowey than i do about asriel
Hello again. If I had a nickel for every time I ran into you... well...
Anyway, I kinda did get a little emotional watching this too, it reminded me of Encanto, y'see. And from Chara's final lines, I felt both the catharsis of standing up to someone you resent, as well as foundation-shattering despair from being rejected by someone you idolize. I think it touches on something pretty real on both sides and does well in exploring the not-great relationship Chara and Asriel once had.
@@elliecassar1881 All of Undertale, from all of the runs, always showcased Asriel's obsession with Chara and how they put them on a pedestal, both as a Flower and as an Absolute God of Hyperdeath.
@@ManicFiction i personally dont belive it does, but he is kinda desperate to see chara again..so i see where ur coming from?
asriel does seem to blame himself (flowey secretly does blame himself though despite not seeming like it, in my headcanon) though
in my headcanon of flowey, as a person who has flowey has their favorite character i think AFTER normal ut happened (any route) flowey would just be like "i know turning back into asriel wont work" and he stops putting chara on a pedastol and blames himself
its just interpretation though..i do strongly belive that flowey knows he cant turn back into asriel after normal ut takes place, because if u try fighting omega flowey after a number of resets (forgot how many) hell just say the souls will revolt again and decide not to fight u
Love how Frisk and Chara absolutely roasted Asriel's ego at the end
He has completely roasted by chara just because he's not an angel
That post credits scene… Frisk and Chara won’t be alone… This truly is the greatest AU of them all. Close enough to the source yet different, with pinpoint characterization accuracy and incredible love (not LOVE) put into it. This is the crown jewel of the Undertale Fandom, and the staff who worked on every little piece of Inverted Fate should be celebrated for their determination.

@@Stps872precisely.
“WHAT IS A GOD, TO A NON-BELIEVER?!”
…A mere mortal being.
WHAT IS A PETE NESS TO A GOD
ALRIGHT
THIS WAS SO GOOD.
This might be up there with The Angel's Promise, which is my all time favourite chapter of IF.
This massive, golden church was so strikingly different in design from the greyscale underground, and the pitch black entrance to the rift... and all the ghostly figures praising Asriel left this terrifying feeling to the whole place.
(Also it all really reminded me of the premiere chat Asriel cult, this really is the Asriel cult chapter)
Asriel showed how much of a hypocrite he is, again, by saying he wants to lift Chara of their burdens and yet idolizing them and placing them on a pedestal.
The story of Chara and Asriel recounted as this origin story for a god was genuinely so unexpected, yet so in line with what Asriel's been doing up until this point. Literally, when I saw the Book of Asriel my jaw dropped, i wasn't expecting that at all but it fit so well...
When the door opened, and I saw the cloaked figure saying that Frisk would have no purpose at all without Flowey, basically saying everything Flowey had used to abuse and gaslight Frisk, I was genuinely hoping it wouldn't be Lilac. What do you know, it was Lilac. A different version of her, controlled by Asriel... and it was absolutely terrifying to see. Again, IF shows an amazing ability to make the viewers feel something, which is just a part of what makes its writing so good.
And now, onto my favourite part.
THE MINIBOSS.
THE. MINIBOSS.
As Frisk and Chara approached the shrine, I was genuinely asking myself what will happen, but I surely wasn't expecting THIS.
Asriel's ego forming this.. pale white figure with angel wings and hollow, black eyes, styled so differently in comparison to the other battle sprites... it was AMAZING. Chara and Frisk slowly shattering its composure was really satisfying to see, and its voice changing from this echoed whisper to Asriel's own voice as he screamed out, asking what is real if not his world... Just. BRILLIANT.
And the music for this boss? SO GOOD. The whispers singing praise for Asriel was again, something I wasn't expecting, but something that fit SO WELL. Just, an amazing piece of music all throughout, complimenting the boss fight perfectly.
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH.
In the end, the temple turned to gray, and Chara and Frisk were thrown... who knows where, as it shattered.
The postcredits with the human souls and, what was presumably Papyrus's soul... they left me even more hyped than before.
Just, this was such a good chapter, and I'm excited for more Inverted Fate.
Also at one point I accidentally deleted this comment, and had to type it up again. Which was... something
The different artstyle of the boss reminded me of 3d Toriel so much lol (the fact that it looks different from undertale, not that it looks like 3d Toriel)

Alternate title “A false god gets angry when his best friends gets another friend and try’s gaslighting them into spilting up (not clickbait)“
After watching this, let me just say this was great! I always loved how this au portrays Asriel as less then perfect and acknowledges the fact that he is still flowey. Another thing I love is how chara is still a person with flaws but isn’t the “murder happy person” this is honestly one of my favorite au’s because it feels like a story that could be in undertale. It isn’t just one of those au’s where it’s only sans, ( although a lot of those au’s can be great, their just a little over done) this one has everyone + more. I know this au has been in development for over 6(?) years and i just wanna say, keep up the amazing work! Can’t wait to see what’s next
Yeah sans aus have been overdone for 7 years(999+)
I appreciate the smallest details like at 7:30 Frisk’s text slightly shake, either conveying a joking sense or discomfort. Either way well animated. Especially considering there are no voices.
@El que comenta still it didn’t have to be used for small things like that.
Asriel's ego sure seems to be growing quite a lot as of recently. Looking forward to this.
It grew quite literally.
THE VIIDEO UPLOADED 5 HOURS AGO HOW DID U COMMENT 2 DAYS AGO???
@@errorduster Patreon I assume.
28:45 notice how their voice reverts back to normal and how at 29:23, they start shaking like they are afraid.
Asriel seems to genuinely be afraid of losing Chara in that moment. As Cap said, Asriel’s facade breaks, and we can see what he really is:
They’re not just a brat who refused to grow up.
Nor are they just a heartless child with attachment issues.
They’re a little kid who has lost everything, even their sanity, a kid who is afraid of being all alone, and simply just wants Chara to hug them, and not let go.
They don’t just want Chara to love them again, they *need* him to love him so that everything they have done wasn’t all for nothing. And if Chara still doesn’t love them, then they hurt thousands of people for nothing.
As the Idol of Ego puts it, “If I’m not a god, if none of this is real, then what is real?!”
@@errorduster it’s cause the video is technically uploaded a couple days earlier because it’s premiered, but yt goes off of the ACTUAL upload time for how long the video has been out
Ok, so this is the best episode yet imo. Ego was cool, the lore bits with asriel were cool, and i am very intrested to see whats happening with lilac. Anyway, about time we took asriels ego down a peg.
god i forgot how good flowey's new sprites are, they lean into how much of a smug little smartass he is so well, theyre perfect
So yeah, the next chapter is ACTUALLY releasing on next saturday and rift 4 will release on April 15th instead. X sprung this on me super last minute jkhjkh. They want it to release soon rather than later and the 8th isn't an option due to Sakura Con. This is not a joke. We are done with Inverted Japes (the secret page "surprise" was the last one).
This is one of the best chapters in Inverted Fate. Asriel spends the entire video trying to gaslight Frisk and Chara (and by extension, the viewer) into thinking he's this noble, kind all loving hero god whose actions are motivated by benevolence and mercy. It almost makes you think Asriel deserves to be forgiven before you remember all the horrible things he did such as manipulating everyone so he could become god, tormenting Frisk after absorbing the 6 souls, mass murder and kicking Frisk while they're down at least once per episode after becoming god.
I also like how the cathedral evokes memories of Undertale's Judgement Hall, the holy scripture of Asriel and Chara and how this develops Asriel's character. It showcases how Asriel has become corrupted into a self-aggrandizing hypocrite with a god complex who puts himself and Chara on pedestals which scapegoating Frisk for everything, yet believes that he's entitled to Chara's goodwill just because he resurrected them.
Then there's also how he uses Lilac's visage to kick Frisk where it hurts, or how the entire episode shows how Asriel's plan is steeped in toxic idealism and how he believes that Chara can do no wrong. The fight with the Effigy of Ego is also one of the best fights in the story, being a showcase of Chara's character development where he stands up to Asriel and exposes his charade for what it is: A toxic friendship where Asriel has all the power in a world based on an idealized past created by tearing down the present world and rewriting history to fit a golden standard that never existed.
What an ego rollercoaster trip!
The false idol sprites gave off some really Photoshop Flowey vibes, wonderfully executed!
Can't wait to see what the post-credit means! Interesting how Papyrus' font is used, too.
Wrf I didn't expect to find you here also true lmao

God the Ego fight is so awesome, I love the imagery. The uncanny look of Ego makes me think of those low-budget indie horror game monsters, like Baldi or something, and watching its façade gradually crack and seeing it drop the smile more and more was both terrifying and awesome.
Holy Cow…
That was awesome! It was really nice to see other ‘faces’ and COLOR after not being able to for a long time. Lilac also being turned was something that I didn’t expect (mostly in the way it was delivered, I was largely expecting a boss fight with her.)
Ego as a fight was awesome! It only made me love Chara and Frisk more.
I also loved the detail of Ego never attacking Chara directly, only choosing to attack Frisk.
I like how Asriel is super edgy.
Jokes aside, this is really cool.
He didn't name his OC "The God of Hyperdeath" for nothing to be fair
Damn
I like how detailed and luxurious Asriel's temple looks (like the incredibly *BIG* pillars compared to the ones on the Last Corridor ).
And it's undeniable: Chara wrecked Asriel's Ego
This episode is great. It's like the way I ironically spoke of Asriel in this AU with my friend, like "he technically broke the barrier" and "eh all of the good things that happened happened because of him"...but at first degree. And as the Bible of a new religion : the Asrielism. It's disturbing, which I guess is the wanted goal.
I really like how Asriel tries to understand Chara, but in the end fails because he idealized Chara so much that he can't see Chara's evolution as a progress. Because if Chara became better than he was, it means that him, trying to adopt Chara's mentality, got worse, and everything he did was for nothing. In Undertale, Asriel needed to be defeated by Frisk's kindness in order to realize that Chara wasn't flawless, but here ? He can't accept it, because he went way too far.
The fight against EGO was glorious. It was disturbing, scary, emotional and powerful. Chara and Frisk's answers to EGO were perfect, and it's just the first mini-boss ! I can't wait for the next episode.
Asriel will save us all. Asriel will give us hope. Asriel will set us free. Overiding right and wrong.

Asriel did nothing wrong! Down with smiley trashbag and closed eyes kid!
There's a brief moment during the vortex at the end where we can see Frisk and Chara seemingly getting separated onto two different "chunks" when the explosion happens. I think next time they're going to be separated in some way.
And I also like how Asriel tries the "sweet" approach to get them on their side. When villains do that it's clever
The funny thing here is that if Asriel would forget about Chara, if he just wanted to enjoy his new powers and possibilities for himself, he could win and the story would be over.
The only reason Frisk and Chara keep walking is because Asriel allows them to, if Asriel will get over his traumas and accept living without depending on someone, he would have already won.
things seem to be falling apart for asriel because in one episode he had his:
ego crushed
souls beginning to rebel against him and possibly resurrecting the almighty payphone
spameton being spameton
Deep down he's still a overgrown child
That and any wrenches tossed into the mix will always damage the process
28:47 Dude really tried to hit em with the "did I ask".
I like how in the part with Asriel's ego, everyone moves stiffly as if they're being controlled like puppets.
I love a good fanfic. Never imagined such a good one existed to make me return to the fandom!
Anyway , the Church music (mus ego?) is actually A+. Most Inverted Fate music is great but this was above the rest. I can imagine it in a well , very well made game OST! Which fits I guess.
Asriel's ego sure has expanded beyond Earth's gravity now. I'm incredibly hyped for the first miniboss encounter, here's free popcorn for the comment section!! 🍿🍿🍿
EGO really caught me offguard! In truly undertale fashion, it looks completely uncanny and cursed, yet the sprite work is phenomenal! The theme is genius, and the chanting in the background makes it even more terrifying. Was not expecting the cathedral direction, but I very much love it, amazing work!! Also, the characters are fascinatingly well-built and the analysis are striking on the dot. And the theming overall too... the genuine hope for a brighter future contrasting with the fake one that requires full control, being just a sugarcoated nihilism is a fantastic theme and message to explore! Phenomenal work all around!!
Like how the text was colored in the ending to show who said what, nice detail.
This is genuinely the best undertale fanmade "thing" I have seen in my entire life. In fact, this may just be the best fanproject I have ever seen. Nice job, from all of us!
I am starting to wonder if Asriel will even get redeemed by the end of this whole ordeal.
I mean, probably because ultimately IF is still a pacifist route AU, but I reallly don't know if he'll be forgiven by Frisk and Chara after all the shit he put them through, *especially* with that absolute verbal beatdown given out at the end there.
Frisk is not obligated to forgive him. xD
Sparing him doesn't mean we forgive him (just like flowey in a neutral route)
@@Dorked Oh of course I know! I just think its an interesting contrast from the canon pacifist route, very interested to see where it goes.
Frisk isnt going to forgive him obviously, through, itd be nice to at least show some genuine good side from asriel.
The answer is simple, a redemption at this point makes no sense.
What would win with that? He would lose his powers, no one is going to accept or love him anymore, in the "best" of cases he would live locked up for life, facing the consequences. From a hard and fair point of view, there is a line that if the person crosses, the person does not deserve to receive anything other than consequences and negative things, that is called justice.
Oh my god I love everything about the Ego fight! From how he looks like a Photoshop to the prayers in the song
Part of me wonders what _would_ have happened if they had given tribute, or used the Repent act.
As a note, you may have wanted to put a Trigger Warning for Religious Trauma on this. Because... damn
In case anyone was wondering what the lyrics were in the battle segment, I think I have them figured out
"Asriel will let us go
Asriel will sing the song
Asriel will give us hope
Overwriting Right and Wrong"
THANK! YOU! Seriously, I listened to it over and over trying to figure out what was being said. You are a miracle worker!
You know, it's surprising how much more disturbing the Photoshop Flowey art style is when it's applied to something that _isn't_ a chaotic mashup of random things.
I have noticed one distinction between the 2 endings, in the original, Asriel was like a child playing god, all his attacks were intentionally flashy, over the top, he was trying to look cool while disposing of frisk, in this he's much more cautious and calculated, wearing down and unsettling his enemies (actually, just single enemy.) before they can even reach him, so by the time they reach the end frisk forfeits their soul and chara thanks him...
Of corse, they're both too determined to do that right?
...right..?
Chara: What if we refuse?
Weird asriel clone: That's the neat part. You don't!
"Let's erase this pointless world and move on to the next!"
No way, that's actually genius to use in the scenario. Wow.
:) I like fun parallels. What Asriel is doing here- rejecting the "real" world and seeking to trash it in favor of something new is very evocative of geno stuff in its own way.
@@Dorked hm. Yeah. I guess it is kind of evocative...

I love the painting of Asriel as a prince. In homestuck a prince is now who destroys fitting of his actions here
The cold smile and unblinking eyes and realistic style of asriels ego makes me really unconfortable
Yellow in undertale embodied Justice but for Asriel it's EGO. Which makes sense. Those that claim to do things in the name of Justice are egotistical. Claim to know what's right and put their righteous values on a golden throne.
Do not trust any god that claims to be perfectly just without formal, dialogued substantiation that allows dissent and promotes mutual understanding.
25:50 rapping asriel prayers in the background😂
Ok here's my theory.
Asriel is going to go through the stages of grief. In this chapter and the last he's in denial. But we can already see that slipping with the EGO boss. With his ego shattered (and before it died, starting to become angry) we may be entering anger next, which could be th flowey like one in the poster.
The one after than would be bargaining, so maybe asriel replaces chara in an effort to make them feel jealous. Like he thought was going on with frisk.
Idk what happens with depression
But it has to end with acceptance
I honestly think this is the most concerned I’ve been this whole series…
Asriel’s trying to get into both Frisk and Chara’s heads, Lilac is being used to portray Asriel further as a god, and the post credits, you can see that the two have been potentially split apart. Where this is all going has me very worried for everyone…
Now this isn't what I was expecting but holy cungadero was it good! The miniboss at the end... Brilliant. The music, the design, the dialogue, just brilliant!
i know it's obvious but i think it's cool that the boss only targets frisk
I just absolutely love the lore and the roasting here.
It sucks that my computer randomly shut off while I was watching... but I'll give the timing props for doing so as one of the Flowey's talked about erasing the world... took me a second to realize that it was an actual error on my computer and not intentional like that fake-reboot screen from when they obtained the god powers.
Oooh? Next update is next week instead of what the video says?
O-O... :D
You know, looking at everything that’s happened I can see what Asriel is going through.
He’s seen the humans, he’s seen Chara before. He, just like Chara, tried to control an outcome. They both thought that it would lead to a better future. They wanted the best for each other so much that in the end they weren’t seeing what the other truly wanted. Chara with Asriel’s hope of everyone living together in a peaceful world in the past, and Asriel with Chara’s hope to have everything be normal.
But in the end they both hadn’t learned the lesson that seeing someone as just what’s on the outside, and gaining control to fit ideals, it might just end up with a worse outcome. Asriel learned that lesson shortly after activating the plan and seemed to just forget it, while Chara learned it after realizing how controlling the world can make it worse due to what Asriel has done.
What I’m trying to say is having control over every little thing in a world, regardless what you do with it, if you can’t see what everything you’ve done has come to, it hurts everything around you. If you wanted to build a world around an image of someone, you may just miss the bigger picture of what you, others, or even the one your idealizing really want.
In a way, I think Undertale can perfectly show how this can effect people, mainly in a genocide run. They try to control an outcome and forget that these characters, they could see you for what you are. If people can’t see the bigger picture, they can’t see what could’ve made them better.
Nobody has to fully agree with you, you don’t have to idolize them. But in the end, sometimes the thing with the smallest control, can work to make something better
Is it weird that i wanna drink the rainbow liquid in the bowls on the wall?
I must drink the forbidden soup
That ending tho...
Looks like the Six Souls finally realized what was happening. And it looks like they're going to attempt something, and with Papyrus to boot.

EDIT: Yikes Chara's Bluntness and Frisk's endless sass may have made things worse.
Hmm, so really interesting stuff here. Asriels EGO is fully shaded and colored and everything. Showing he can do just as much weird crap as Omega Flowey. What I do wonder though, Spamton went into the place in the last part right? What if he grabbed a couple souls and stood up to asriel? Now THAT would be something.
Asriel absorbed every SOUL, and Spamton knows he can't fight him without dying

Nothing much I can say here that a whole bunch of other comments haven't already said better. This chapter was incredible, IF in general is incredible, super excited for the rest of Rift, etc etc.
I will say, though, it's weird how so many of my favorite pieces of media center around children obtaining and misusing godlike power. Both IF and the original Undertale, Pokemon Reborn, A Better Place, Everything Everywhere All at Once... I wonder what it is about that trope in particular that really speaks to me. I guess seeing what a tragically flawed character would do with unlimited power is just a super cool, super dramatic way to highlight and then resolve those flaws? IDK.
Yet another episode so soon! Awesome!
am i the only one who laughed at the ego fight because GOD DAMN does it look and sound like its an overthetop edgy as hell spanish fanbattle and tbh thats probably what it was going for anyways
Asriel's strong point is not subtlety. xD
What a beautiful area and fight and it only goes up from here
Very interesting that the humain souls protecteur papyrus's souls cuz he was nice to them during the dt expériment
Why you think this is a soul of Papyrus? I dont understand.
I'm pretty sure that's Asriel's soul, and the souls are trying to convince him to stop with his plan
@@secretconsumer8836 dorked Saïd it her self in the live chat
@@cellina.starfire asriel has no soul lmao. Confirmed
@@secretconsumer8836 papyrus is "a little more coherent than the others" he's the upsidedown soul in inverted fates logo, and in the start of the playable battles that soul is removed and asriel is like holding it, and it's brighter.
YOOO THIS IS SO COOOL
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
THe characterization omg I LOVE
Frisk and Chara, as usual, have an AWESOME dynamic
This has the a vibe straight out of the Mario and Luigi series and I love it. Honestly I know what it's like to ruin a friendship with the whole "savior" complex. I have moved on but it was not worth it. Do not be an Asriel.
When it's Sunday and you realize you have to attend Asriel church
i have a theory aboult how our duo will defeat asriel: first they will complate all the challenges the edgy goat provides, next, they will save the soul of queen toriel, after that they will explain to her how asriel *HONK'd* up not 1, but 2 timelines, and after this step, they will enjoy their snacks as Toriel the ass whoper smacks asriel's edgy ass into monday for all he had done and forces him to make a proper reset where nothing bad happend, and at the finale, our characters will enjoy the sunset at mountain Ebott while talking aboult how nice the surfice is and their future plans.
thanks to everyone who *goat* the time to read it all, and for those who didn't?
don't sweat it, its just a theory, *A GOAT THEORY!*
update after i wathced the video: HOLLY SHIT THAT WAS ONE HELL OF A *GOAT-ED* EPISODE!
You goat to be kidding
I love this
Toriel is saved and then grounds asriel, sends him to his room and takes away his xbox
Basically this theory toriel whoops Asriel ass with some hard love
LETS GOOOOOOO!!!! The asriel statues are really creepy though
Yep
I'm definitely having nightmares about this.
24:07 Ok this is straight up analoge horror
This is amazing, this must be one of the best Au that I have seen, I have no words, I am glad that I met this Au
Love the Homestuck reference in the Asriel's boss theme
Playable Ego fight and playable Determinator fight when lol
Jokes aside, I loved this, and am expecting a Lilac boss fight if Frisk and Chara truly got separated at the end. Asriel will no doubt use her to try and turn Frisk.
I think there will be a battle. Lilac has battle sprites for a reason.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
MY B-DAY IS APRIL 15
BEST PRESENT EVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
This series is TRULY amazing!
Thank you!
Rift Part 3 is now coming out next Saturday. xD Rift part 4 will be on the 15th instead.
oh...
STILL COOL THO
LOL xD
Le funny Facepalm moment amirite???????????????????????????
am i
The fight in a nutshell: Two kids give a "god" an existential crisis and he dies
Integrity: "You were always... so nice... even though i didn't deserve it."
This hits hard after undertale yellow
It's not UT yellow.
In IF's context, it's because they caused the waterfall incident. Killed and hurt dozens of people because of a misunderstanding
The music in this video was amazing!!!
yoooo the cult thing was actually a really good parallel between asriel and chara's parent being unaccepting. Time and time again the puppets ask Chara to repent and embrace who they WANT Chara to be, and in both instances Chara rejects this narrative and choose their own path! Really liked that :). Especially Chara saying "If you can't accept me as I am now", very good paralleling to someone coming out. Also, 6 souls papyrus?? eyes emoji
I can't believe I'm becoming a fan. OF AN AU.
superb sprites on ego, my goodness!
