Very nice long cranking , actually the best way to start a diesel like this . By doing this you are building up a lot of heat in the combustion chamber which helps starting , that`s why it`s so hard to start a hard starting diesel with short cranks .
best way is working glowplugs for all 6 cylinders, no air in fuel by a leaking injection pump. also needed are a strong battery and compression:) wont hurt if you have the latter two as well. right? a d or td should NOT be started like this. i would disassemble this engine and made a full refurb before these startups kill it entirely. then cold revs he added.
You can buy supermarkets batteries here, with "Casino" brand typed on it and 1/3 of the bosch price. They are supplied to them by bosch.... Just to say a brand doesn't mean a lot.
michaelovitch Interesting. I always fit the largest battery possible which fit in the battery tray. Just in case you leave lights on or so. Also they last longer, up to at least 7 years in a diesel. They do cost a bit more, but more reliability.
RODALCO2007 Physical size isn't important, i had a battery almost half the size but double the CCA effect, which is the important number to look at when you're starting up your engine. Expensive though, about $400, but damn even when there wasn't enough volts to power the stereo (i powered several amps on it as well) it started the car in one second. Edit: with double the cca i mean for a regular battery @ ~ 600 CCA
Mattias Notmyname True, but usually the bigger batteries have a larger Amp Hour rating and can fit more plates per 2 Volts cell. Some of the smaller high CCA rated batteries have very thin plates and will suffer under a longer then normal crank.
RODALCO2007 mine's 12 years and still works fine. It's a GM battery for an Opel diesel. My parents have a newer Opel with an '06 battery which went dead a few days ago, but after recharging it has now been functioning well for a few days. Fingers crossed that it holds but I suspect not
In North America, this was a one-year wonder: it replaced, for 1986 only, the 760 Turbo Diesel that was sold from 1983-85. The 740/760 Turbo Diesel series in North America: 1983-1985: 764 GLE 1985: 765 GLE 1986: 744 GLE, 745 GLE
its probably the only way to get it started, but he could have put easy start down the air filter, the same stuff they use to start them big old trucks in freezing cold weather :)
Don't worry my 2019 Fiat does exactly the same when I go to start it. Sounds just like it during cranking and idle in fact. Dealer said it was normal. Admittedly mine is a petrol, so that's probably why.
nonexistent glowplugs---they are probably dead. or superlow compression. plus no fuel. air in fuel. should start much much better and without cranking. runs okay otherwise....if it starts. can you fix this car up?
22fret Nope in here it is on the right side. but the car was brought here from the UK and the speed meter has taken from other car. originaly this one was a mileage meter.
RHD cars with Km/h speedos are also found in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Possibly India as well. Great 740, I miss mine! Now have a 97 V70 2.5 though :D
i see ur diesel meter and rpm meter isnt working. the 740's tend to have problems with the instruments, the only thing that doesnt work in my 740 is the gas meter :P does ur speedometer work?
+ProjectOfGames Diesel engines take longer to start because diesel burns at a higher temperature than petrols so it relying on compression rather than spark.
No, it's the diesel, it's quite obviously the diesel, it just has the wrong cluster on it, like the guy said on another comment thread. And yeah, I know this is an ancient comment :/
that starter motor is a hero...
+Shkarupilo Gearhead Battery too :-)
@@MC-Racing yes. imagine the glowplugs pulling x6
You can run a wire directly from the positive terminal of the battery to the glowplug itself.
It will allow you to start it very fast.
long cranking is never answer, you would break a starter or kill battery. short ones with heating i sbetter.

your engine thanks you for NOT using starter fluid. These engines dont tolerate stupidity. you did well
most starter motors would have melted after all that cranking
Good battery, good starter, most likely Bosh.

The starter motor and the clutch are the heroes
That is one seriously major battery that you have in that car!!!
LOVE THEAT SOUND OF PURR POWOR .😀😀😀SAUNDS LIKE A TRAKKTORR.RRR
i love volvo 740
When it finely starts it runs prettig good
Very stable
Great job on the video👍🏻
actually the instument usually work exept the gas guage, wery rare to find a 740 with working gas guage
Love the random wires strewn all over the engine bay.
Don't eat the black snow
Poor starter, most of the time I was thinking, Let go, let go of it.. lol
Nice mountain of snow on it ^^
chooched it back to life.

Volvo never dies ;)
that vw engine does from time to time
They do die Volvo's are shit
They do die Volvo's are shit
It is a straight 6 engine.
its probably the only way to get it started, but he could have put easy start down the air filter, the same stuff they use to start them big old trucks in freezing cold weather :)
nope. it does damage
Germans sure do know how to make a great engine!
+HelixTejp Volvo is Swedish...
+Go brock i know. but the engine is german. vw d24
HelixTejp Oh ok, you're right, I misread it as in great car, sorry ^^
Great engine what a joke.. You have to change the top all the time.
Oskar Kristiansson Only if you don't take care of the engine and over-rev it way too much... these engines is not built to be race car engines!
Good point, hadn't thought of that: well done
That's true, but those starter fluids newer do anything good for any engine if used too often
starter fluid in these?? big mistake! and you can ruin the glowplugs which can break at the tip then fall into where they dont belong. ouch.
Don't worry my 2019 Fiat does exactly the same when I go to start it. Sounds just like it during cranking and idle in fact. Dealer said it was normal. Admittedly mine is a petrol, so that's probably why.
How the hell that 740's battery and starter lasted that long, trying to start a freezing cold 6 cylinder D24 is beyond me.
Gotta love Volvo man :D
Starting fluid is all you need
Yep it was in mph speedometer. but it wasn`t working so i changed it to kmh meter..
suppose your right, never thought of that
nonexistent glowplugs---they are probably dead. or superlow compression. plus no fuel. air in fuel. should start much much better and without cranking. runs okay otherwise....if it starts. can you fix this car up?
It`s in finland. but the car has brought here from UK. in here we have a left hand drive cars.
More likely to be Ireland, as the speedometer is in km/h, and the UK models had mph.
Not bad for an old indirect injection pre chamber engine.
sounds like all but one of the glow plugs is shot
Check the compression then try to change the glow plugs.
Yes there is. but the diesel meter is not working.:)
yes in this one the speedometer is working.:)
RHD and km/h speedo? Where do you live? I only know this configuration from Ireland...
it's in finland
Did Finland drive on the left side, too, as Sweden did until 1967?
22fret Nope in here it is on the right side. but the car was brought here from the UK and the speed meter has taken from other car. originaly this one was a mileage meter.
youtube optins says its in antartik...
RHD cars with Km/h speedos are also found in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Possibly India as well. Great 740, I miss mine! Now have a 97 V70 2.5 though :D
Good Battery
It´s made by volkswagen..
No
Yes. The 2.4l Straight 6 is a Volkswagen Engine.
Yes indeed it is vag group vw audi engine
what do u mean? the rpm gauge still works if u got the clutch in..
i see ur diesel meter and rpm meter isnt working. the 740's tend to have problems with the instruments, the only thing that doesnt work in my 740 is the gas meter :P does ur speedometer work?
Lots of smoke there
Why is it missing the turbo meter then?
what country is it? that car's right han drive
my volvo b200e always starts in one turn.. 240 000 km.
+ProjectOfGames okay ''projectofgames'' Lol.
same
+Jonas Hedberg So a gamer can't have a car? Lol...
+ProjectOfGames Diesel engines take longer to start because diesel burns at a higher temperature than petrols so it relying on compression rather than spark.
+michael jagger thats true
Put some petrol in the air intake and it will start straight away
how can the starter keep with this cranking, its obviously not made in this modern days xD
+Ricardo Gomes Things back then were built to last they aren't now.
omg dude,u cant starting up a cold car like that...

sounds like a loc
Mikä se tämmönen postimallin volvo on? :)

I wish my 740 had a diesel. Props to Fiat for the engine!...at least I think Fiat made those engines, I gotta check in my repair manual.
I want that Volvo it looked like u don't drive it I'll take it off your hands for u

Jaa tämäki vielä hengisä :D mun vanha luotto käyttis :D
Joo ei niitä vissii montaa oo..:D yhen toisen oon nähny suomessa.
Tuo mittaristo on otettu bensa autosta. ja kiekka mittari ei toimi. muutenki tuo koko auto on alunperin ollu bensakoneella. myöhemmin dieselöity.
Yes, put one of these Volvo/VW diesels in your Buick century. GM engines are garbage, this VW D24T diesel will blow away all GM garbage engines.
Mullakin on diisseli jossa on samanlainen kierroslukumittari
Volvo smoke, don't breathe this. ;)
Is the engine a v6 or a straight six diesel. I need a diesel to fit my 1993 Buick century. You can see it on my channel
Sen on joku joskus englannista tuonu suomeen.:)
lisää romutusvideoo!
vähä mustaa savuu ku käynnisty... :D:D:D
they shouldnt have to be :)

hahhaahah WOW !
Ma è a benzina........non diesel
Ita is a diesel, check the smoke idiot
+Martin Schenström allora è diesel col contagiri del benzina......

Ah ecco perchè mi sono confuso.....

Ha, ha! It´s not even a diesel, just a noicy gasoline :)
No, it's the diesel, it's quite obviously the diesel, it just has the wrong cluster on it, like the guy said on another comment thread. And yeah, I know this is an ancient comment :/
tdiesel.
thats a petrol engine ..
It's obviously a diesel.
Look at rpm ... red starts at 6000?
The engine looks like diesel .. lol
It´s a diesel. the meter was taken from a petrol car.
it IS a diesel. are you on a pill?:)
I HATE DIESEL ENGINE.
how about FUCK YOU!
xXTURTLEXxify Eskerrik Asko txerria.
