Chennai is amodern metropolis and Southern India's major city with a lot of culture and tradition rooted here not to mention the food. However, that river Cooum is a sorry sight because it is higly polluted; succesive governments have tried cleaning it up but failed miserably. Hopefully, it will be revived and made suitable for navigation one day.
After the Great Leader Rt.Hon Kamarasar rule ended in 1967, then came the CORRUPTED to the Core DMK + ADMK both parties led by TELUGU CROOKS, Malayala Crooks and Brahmin CROOKS by hiding themselves with so called Dravidian Mask. The DMK & ADMK both CROOKED deliberately let down COOVAM by not cleaning up.
I visited Chennai on 2019 just before the covid hit hard and it was amazing trip. Sadly you missed fort st. George museum. Chennai museum is also worth a visit when you come to Chennai next time. By the way calcatta to sikkim and assam-nagaland-manipur route were also nice routes i had done before.
Jason I love India and what I like about you is that you’re informative about the history I didn’t know it was called madras but this is what I like , thank you very much
Your love for India is amazing.🙏🙏 Keep coming to India and be a tourism ambassador for India. Tourism Ministry should form a council for travel Vloggers like you , Gabriel and others and take inputs how to improve the tourism in India.
I visited in January 2018 for 10 days 5 years ago It was nice to see the friendly look and nice to see the place as it is. It is one of the place I definitely want to visit again. I miss the lively appearance of the streets, I miss the friendly and bright faces of the tourists Great vlog, like and support from kerala
you may have noticed the spirituality in people of Southern India. that is because India is the birthplace of spirituality. South India being protected by ocean from all sides it has not been invaded or ruled as many times as north India by foreigners. that is why culture art craft music dance architecture everything blossomed without being affected too much by outside influence. classical music and dance of South India are legendary and take years to be good at. Carnatic music is the most complex music on earth. in state of Tamil Nadu there are many beautiful architecture made of granite rock thousands of years old been through natural calamities and still standing in one piece.
Bro i hope you will not skip meghalaya , mizoram ,assam , arunachal , nagaland Pls don't ignore these states it's different india and part of our culture as well You will surely like it
Jason simply put...I love your content man. I can handle a little sour with the sweet meaning what's awesome about a place mixed with what's not so awesome. Great commentary in this one as well.
@14:35 Yeah my friend. Being a local person from Chennai I feel worried to state this for real. That's Sewage river where the complete shits stay floating towards the complete city (and so you could feel the odor). Untill 1975 people used to make boat rides on it, some do trades since it looked clean and hygienic. As your assumption, the city met pollution issues then was failed to be maintained. It is non-clearable now :(
Chennaiite here, and to answer your question, Jason....the river you crossed in the video is the Kuvam River, which travels 16 kms through the Chennai area before draining into the Bay of Bengal. It originates somewhere in the Tiruvallur district in TN, and that stretch of river is actually clean, it's only the 16 kms in the city that's as polluted as you see it. The reasons for this pollution are many, ranging from unregulated sewage flow into the river everyday and encroachment on its banks by slum dwellers. The single biggest reason for its state, however, is probably the fact that sandbars tend to form in its delta on the Bay of Bengal, preventing it from draining into the sea. Since it isn't draining its waste, what you're left with is the putrid cesspool you see. No fauna live in its murky, toxic waters. Most locals know to hold their breath by instinct when crossing the river : )
I have the impression that all those polluted rivers in Chennai are draining its content in the bay, so it makes the beaches and the ocean fishes endangered.
Good trips in India. Thanks. When you go back to India if you could spend more time with the temples and give us more of the stories and deities of such places, That would make these videos much more interesting as these things are central to Indian life. Namaste. Mathura Vrindavan area is full of this essence with many beautiful temples, festivals, sights and people.
Your walk around Chennai made me feel like I was right there with you! Do you have any tips for someone planning to visit there and get the most out of the experience?
Fort St. George was builted in 17th century and fort museum was builted by British just a months before they were leaving India in 1947 as a memory of their rule in india

Hi Jason Thanks what a great video coverage of the traditional part of Chennai India. Traffic is crazy but lots of people too. Hey take can hardly wait for you next place to visit.

The local authorities are oblivious to the terrible derelict situation of the sidewalks and overall lack of cleanliness of the city roads and infrastructure. If the Chennai Municipality could improve on this, they might see an increase in tourism. As is the present situation, it all seems a bit too hectic.
Being in Thamizhnadu but talking about other states but missing a lot of ancient historical places in Thamizhnadu. Example. Thanchavur Periya Kovil Gangai Konda Cholapuram Ootti Kodaikanal And so on and on.
14:29 The river you crossed is a 'Coovam' river. All untreated waste water from the households and commercials are being discharged into the river. That's why it's black and getting a bad smell.
