The founder of Pyer Moss and the artistic director of Reebok Studies is Kerby Jean-Raymond. Pyer Moss is a menswear and womenswear brand that is revolutionizing the fashion business by fusing streetwear with luxury. Pyer Moss has been a formidable force since 2013, amassing the admiration of well-known celebrities, taking home the CFDA Fashion Fund Prize, making lists of Forbes 30 under 30, Times Next 100 List, and many other accolades. Despite his extraordinary success, Kerby acknowledges that his path was fraught with setbacks, including strained relationships with investors, power struggles, trouble locating suitable factories, and more. His intense love for beautiful design and an eye for aesthetics never wavered. But it wasn't always an easy start for Kerby. He had to find an investor for him to start the brand we all know today as Pyer Moss. He even found himself in debt to do so.
Pyer Moss has garnered a lot of attention for its politically charged runway presentations and seasonal advertisements that highlight underrepresented minorities in America. In this episode, the designer emphasizes that he never felt personal independence through the "fashion formula," but rather through utilizing the energy of "politics, societal conventions, and music"-all of the things that shaped his life. He recounts everything in this episode, starting from his early childhood years and ending with the King's Theatre in his native Flatbush, Brooklyn, where he is currently showcasing his Pyer Moss Collection III.

Dope video. Pyer Moss will always be a culture legend
Goes to show you - the vision can be there but navigating the finances / raising money & having debt adds a whole other layer of difficulty to this game

Definitely will always be a legend.
Yeah I know some might want to rush into it when building a brand by taking out a loan or buying views but that comes with a lot of problems as well. Slow and steady with a nice strategy will always be a more peaceful journey

Man. Cash Flow and the attention toward the business side, will always be more important than the actual art.

Haven't watched yet, but that is the life of many creatives that work in the fashion industry. I'm sure that reebok appointment helped a lot, but generally speaking, working in fashion is an almost unjustifiable financial undertaking.
*Great video. Offering practical advice and suggestions or fiture designers takes it a step further.

Man, I'm dealing with this with my brand Veii. Cash flow is king. Even if things don't pan out we can always bounce back. We only fail when we stop trying.

I feel that last statement you said it’s true 100 percent. You only fail if you stop trying. It’s multiple ways you could get in but the best bet is to build a community first. Then after you can begin to sell your products or service so this situation could never happen to you

This brand had the potential to be what half white is today.
The owner got so many opportunities from some really reputable ppl in the industry, but the man keeps fucking up y’all.
I researched him yrs ago. He’s one of the best self taught designer of our generation. He’s so creative. His brand would’ve been so big and well known, very well established today. But he’s an addict , he did some messed up things too. He made lots of poor decisions and allowed friends to come before his brand, thinking loyalty would be more than his professionalism. Talk about it, don’t hide the truth . 😢😢😢😢
I hope 2025 is the year he’s going to come out of hiding and make a comeback.
